In the HOUSE OF DREAMS, Barking Spider Creative transformed The Johnston Collection - a secret exhibition house/museum (in East Melbourne) into a series of rooms created as dreamscapes. Interdisciplinary art forms include - found and historic object assemblages, sound and lighting design, visual art and text. The show evoked experiences and moods and sensations of dreams and the dreamer. There were no live actors engaged in the show: the absence of performers enabled the disembodied characters to truly inhabit the space.
Visitors to the HOUSE OF DREAMS experienced powerful and evocative dreamscapes - some enchanting and mysterious, while others were unsettling uncanny or disturbing.
House of Dreams was awarded the Interpretation Australia Award for Excellence in 2019.
This work was created on the lands of th eWurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin. We pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.
