You are correct. Those elephants were in beautiful condition. That he parted with them when he knew he could no longer afford them says a lot for how he cared for their future too.

And his presence calmed down the nervous elephants. Says a lot about their bond.

We shouldn't judge about humans making money off animals! There are people who sell rides on horses and ponies. These animals aren't used to having humans ride on their backs so they are broken in just like how the elephants are broken in to let humans ride on their backs. Who are we to judge?

Is nothing too cruel for you that you can justify it by saying "that is cruel too, so you are we to judge?" The world is full of horrible cruelty to animals and humans too and we must systematically expose every one of them an eliminate it. That is how we grow as human beings - not by justifying it.

@@Automedon2 You've misunderstood my comment! I was saying that people in other countries are also guilty of exploiting animals, not just the Thais. We are hypocrites ourselves when we judge the Thais for exploiting elephants when people in other countries, including our own, also exploit animals! I was never condoning the ownership and cruelty of elephants, in fact, all ownership of elephants should be banned and punishable by jail! Not only should we ban elephant riding, but we should also ban the riding of other animals such as horses and ponies! These animals also go through the cruel breaking-in process for them to submit to humans riding on their backs. Our ancestors needed to ride horses as a form of transportation but in today's world, an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) could do the same thing a horse can!

Good?? These elephants were brutalized through Torture Training which preceded being forced to work, worked 12-14 hours when working so that they didn't have time enough to eat enough, then chained when they weren't working, how can anyone call any of that "good?" We should be thankful they looked healthy and calm, that the person put them into Lek's care, but that is all. Good? No, the person was not "good."

At the rescue location? or in the truck? At the elephant-camp where they began their journey, that owner kept them chained and tethered. In the truck, it was to help stabilize the elephant in the center of the truck, so as not to damage or roll the truck over.

I am surmising that the owner felt the calf was too young to be chained by the ankle, that the calf could more simply be restrained from walking around by way of a rope tied to a support. Any type of restraint like that is unethical and hurtful to an elephant's makeup, by refusing them their design-need to walk, by refusing their need to engage with other elephants, and by the effects it has on their mind. It is unconscionable and immoral. That calf has been made a slave, and the calf's eyes are already going vacant, "zoning out," as she or he rocks back and forth. They use chains/restraints because it is 1. the tradition, and 2. because it's easier than building kralls (stable/stall/enclosures) for numerous elephants so they can have free-feet, in order to keep the elephants in their possession, to keep them from leaving. They either do not rightly understand the harm that restraints do, or they don't care. Lek works hard to help such people understand. It also damages their feet over time, and causes other damage as their entire biophysical and neurological systems require much walking every day, and 24/7 free feet. It would be wonderful if this babe and her/his mother could be rescued. If the babe doesn't have a mother, then they were likely stolen from the Wild, which always means the calf's mother and entire family-herd was killed by the hunters that stole the calf to sell it, and that the calf witnessed that. (THIS, is the HUGE reason why Asian elephants in the Wild are becoming extinct.) Such, I believe, was the case with the beautiful, ever so smart and lovingly sweet, energetic Chana, who is the adopted daughter at ENP of Kabu, and friend to the blind Ploy Thong. I have studied them for several years, and try in ENP's channels here to enrich the understandings of those that seek answers as you have. The more people understand of elephants, the greater their appreciation will grow, and hopefully their support of these elephants, both by sharing info with their friends and family, and perhaps financially, to prevent extinction, as Lek works so hard to save them, both individually and the species, working by love and truth, which is my "work" > love and truth, as these are conjoined principles of Life. There is no wild in Thailand a few national Forrest's but the Poachers hunt them with wire snare's and the government doesn't want them there and won't came up with any money for rescue.

People with money do donate, the pool the Elle's cooled off in was donated and payed for by a woman supporter it was needed for the dry season when it's always in the 90s and no rain ,the government could help with land donation but in Asia they want a bribe elephants being mistreated is not something they care about.

I always say if I ever won a bunch of money, places like this and DSWT would receive huge donations. Same with places like Takis' dog shelter over in Greece. All of these organizations need help and they deserve it for what they do.

You can't buy Elephants, land or food for the elephants with a statue or medal. Financial help by the goverments for the elephant owners so that they can stop the riding business and tgey can buy land to set their elephants free so tgat tourists can observe them in their natural habitat abd serve them instead of being on their back. No medal and no statue but recognition by the Thai goverment, that is the highest honour for all work Lek, Derrick and all vollunteers at ENP do. 👋😃🇳🇱

It is GOOD that they released these elephants into Lek's care, but wielders of bullhooks, chains and other implements of torture, who will force the calf seen in this video at 1:21 through the deadly and brutal Phajaan/Crush/Torture Training, are Not good people. We are thankful these 7 elephants are now in Lek's care, but we mustn't elevate abusers and torturers to that of "good person."
