We left off at CN Martel which is about 120 kilometers west of Kamloops. From that point, we drove through thick smoke caused by the forest fires and saw no reason to pull over to get videos and picture. Besides we happened to come across a series of work blocks and boring coal trains which weren’t worth our time. We stopped for a stretch break in Kamloops, gasses up, and hopped on the #5 (Yellow-head Highway) and began making our way to Jasper. It was about 4 hours later that we picked back up in Blue River BC, where we caught two very interesting consists on the head ends of an Eastbound and Westbound movement. By this time the sunlight was providing a challenging scenario since the train we were trying to get a shot of was heading east and by that time the sun was shining right into our lenses. The westbound we caught in Blue river shortly after a crew change, was lit up perfectly, and once it passed we drove a little further east to set up for a wicked eastbound. The daylight was slowly running out and we still had to get to our campsite to set up in Jasper which was a few hours away. We drove another half hour to a spot called Lempriere; there we caught an eastbound stack train struggling to make it up the hill. We moved after it passed. To finish the day, we stopped only 5 minutes up the road at Albreda Lodge and caught an interesting Long Hood Forward movement. It was a unit tank train. We later discovered that the lead unit had a computer malfunction and they had to use the second unit to lead, which meant that they had no other alternative, but to run LHF. They ran like this, all the way to Kamloops. We left the tracks, stopped in Valemount for a quick snack break and continued our journey to Jasper. We made with just enough daylight to set up camp, made dinner, and went to sleep. The next day we continued… stay tuned.
