The Journey to K2 | The Worlds Most Dangerous Mountain | Rosie Gabrielle
With only one week's notice, and no idea what I signed up for, I began one of the hardest journeys of my life- to K2 basecamp! This trek is challenging for the average person, let alone someone who has cardiovascular disease, recovering chronic illness, and seemed to have started off on the wrong foot. Oh- and instead of doing it in the regular 7 days like most, we did it in under 5, gaining a whopping 3000 meters in this time. With everything kind of working against me, I pushed through my limits to give it my best, but that would be the biggest TEST. Did I make it ?

Agreed. I'm not sure what the motivation is, but to choose this most difficult challenge with insufficient preparation and a heart condition at these elevations really raises the risks.
@arbitraryalias9825
@arbitraryalias9825 7 месяцев назад
@@antoniotula262 Us watching is the motivation. The porters carrying their packs, getting their water, setting up their tents etc. enabled them to go somewhere they lacked the skill and knowledge to attempt on their own. They probably would have turned back after 36 hours had there not been 6 men assisting. Instead they got to fulfill their hiker aesthetic video and get helicoptered out...

Even the experts can get into trouble. There is no room for novices, but as long as they pay for the experience, no one turns them down. They are a danger to the people around them, especial the sherpas who often will lose their lives. It is more dangerous for them as they do a lot of the preliminary work, like setting the ropes and they carry the supplies.......Respect for these great guys......

Hey Friends !! The Video you have all waited a VERY long time for! I've taken a small break from my Taiwan series to share this very special video. If you do not follow me on socials / instagram.com/rosiegabrielle/ and are not aware, last June I embarked on this crazy adventure that almost took my life!! K2 trek is already difficult for most, but with only one weeks notice, and not knowing that I signed up with the expedition team, and almost EVERYTHING working against me, I had my challenges to contend with. Follow along on this crazy adventure of highs and lows and see what my experience going to K2 basecamp was like. This is only PART 1 of a two part series so be sure to check in next week for the final episode to see what happens !! This VIDEO was a huge production to make ( took over one month to edit) I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below, as this isn't my usual motorcycle journey video and what you thought of it ! Thanks for watching and for all the love and support!

I have been seriously considering and am in training for this hike. Good to hear the drop off point is now Jule not Askole. I think the terrain is not too extreme. It's more the heat and length of walk that are the key challenges. At end of day the porters turn the event into a luxury evening and night. Looking forward to part 2 and will keep planning and training. Also which company did you use?

@@ahazell733 thats awesome ! I'll be doing a top 10 recommendations video after this series so you can prepare better, but you can also watch and see for yourself here what its actually like the whole way. I think the company I went with, only does the expedition teams. DO NOT do that mistake ! although I don't think normal people can sign up for that.. We were there with Naila, Talha was actually there to film here thats why we went... We were with Nimsdai group. I will research and try and recommend the best companies, tbh , there are some really SHADY companies, also that don't treat the porters well. Dont' try and go for a cheaper tour- it means they pay the porters even less. find a company that prides themselves in treating people equally.. its difficult though, even our tour had issues with that. as a sensitive person, its hard to see. What I would say is, you can do your individual part to make them feel appreciated like I did, and tip generous after the porters that help you. NOTE; they do this job out of passion and also they do get paid more than average wage of ie. construciton worker, about 4x... so these are not "poor men" they also choose not not wear nice gear. All of the trekkers donate and give these men nice shoes, jackets etc.. and they go around and sell them in the market after. So don't look at their conditions as "poor people suffering" because they arn't and choose this job out of pride. But they still don't get paid much from the company and rely on tips, so just keep that in mind for after.

@@user-iu3rq5pl1u it's okay, I understand from the outside, it would be hard to understand why anyone would push themselves. But this is also the process of growth and rebirth. If one stays comfortable their entire lives and never exceeds their limits they will never see their true potential. Obviously as I've stated before, don't patronize this theory and go too far beyond your limits, but it is healthy and okay to push the boundaries a little. It's how we become the butterfly :) Things must get uncomfortable for change to happen

This trek, just like ABC trek, should only be left for avid trekkers only. Idk, how you made this transition from being a full time motorcyclist to taking on such huge trek with so less of an experience. Sorry, if I'm being rude, but really I'm glad you are okay. Just be careful out there. Best wishes for future adventures!

@@RosieGabrielle I am a Registered nurse and trying to figure out what's wrong with your heart....and your blood pressure! Did you need medications for those issues? Just needed to know if one would need higher doses of meds wether it's Blood pressure or other meds . Thank you
@RosieGabrielle
@RosieGabrielle 10 месяцев назад
@@anibabikian you won't be able to figure out whats wrong, its very complicated :S haha I have a rare vascular disease ( still un diagnosed till this day) basically when I was born, my arteries had all signs of stenosis, however they didn't know until I was 4, and then it was too late. I had 10% of bloodflow going to my heart, my aorta was disintegrating. they did an abdominal aortic bypass. Then that bypass obstructed my ureter, sending my left kidney into failure. They took out 2/3's of it, I now have zero function in whats left of it, but its full of stones ( hence why having no water was also very challenging for me) two years later both of my renal arteries failed, and I had bypasses on both. Then years later it was my mesenteric artery, it failed, and my iliac artery disappeared. I only had 2% blood flow going to my gut, they had to bypass that artery but left with damage in gut. aside from the arterial things, what causes the blood pressure to rise so much and heart rate to max out over 215 with just simple exersize if I elevate too quickly ( even running up a flight of stairs will do it) They don't know.. I've been in multiple tests, when I do stress test, my systolic will go up to like 180 -200 while my diastolic will drop down to 20. I know I have moderate regurgitation in two of my heart valves and when I was born my heart was enlarged and had a hole in it. apparently thats not an issue now... So long story short, no, meds will not help this issue, its a complicated mess. day to day I have zero issues with my heart, unless I do any quick activity- ie, sprinting, boxing, cross fit. - I can't do any of those. but I can run 10km perfectly fine,.. at my own pace :)

❤️🙌🏼 yes exactly 💯 This trip was so profound for me, in so many ways, it’s was an external journey of what I was processing internally and all unfolded as it did as a result. This was the first BIG thing I had done since curing my (20 year) chronic Lymes disease and was a HUGE testament of my faith, strength and ability to face my FEARS !!! Thank you for sharing, I can directly relate ❤️

@RosieGabrielle
@RosieGabrielle 10 месяцев назад
@maryhoffman5845 I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. It really is a debilitating thing to live with, that leaves one feeling quite hopeless at the mercy of our very misleading medical systems. This trip was the first big thing I did since curing my Lymes and was a huge testament of courage to face it, it was the ultimate test, could I REALLY do it, or would I end up like before. Well, my physically body held up at least and I proved to myself I was clear. As for how I did it. It was actually very simple (but not easy) Any did-ease, comes as a signal. A communication from your soul, Doesn’t matter if it’s cancer, diabetes,, Lymes, fibromyalgia, it could be mental health such as depression, anxiety, or adhd or whatever other ailment in the physical or mental body. Every single issue is caused by our own internal state of being. To put it simpler. The emotions we hold inside. The traumas, the beliefs, etc…. Until we STOP and really listen to what our body is trying to communicate, it will keep signalling for us to listen, the more we ignore it, the louder it gets. I had to STOP everything for 3 months, and i had to change the way I feel about pain, the story I keep telling myself, I had to re-write the narrative. Our minds are powerful, if you tell yourself you are sick and never getting better, you will never get better, and vice versa. Our bodies are POWERFUL self healing machines, we have no idea what we can do. I got sick on this trip to k2 because I was battling so much fear inside, on top of having some very serious personal issues that was causing my head to blast…. Well, guess what happened to me 🤯 It’s not always easy to stop our lives and listen. We are human, habitual creatures, we get comfortable with what we know, we get comfortable with the pain because it’s familiar. Change comes when you are tired of dealing with your own stuff. Only we can make that change for ourselves through love and compassion towards our self. The little us inside that just wants to be seen and heard ❤ Healing is possible for everyone. I could do a whole video on it, and I’ll probably write a book one day, but for now, im still learning. Still stumbling, still becoming. Send your friend a big hug for me ❤ there is hope. Anything is possible

I feel really really bad for the poor animals, the people who do this choose to do it but the poor animals don’t choose to do this and they get all these heavy stuff on them, so sad 😢

I totally agree with you, I thought the same, poor donkeys going through that horrible dry ravaging land, so sad. And all for what!!!
@RosieGabrielle

Some animals are work animals, they were gifted as means to help people, and have been doing so since the dawn of time. Nomads have been using mules to transport goods all over the world. Of course one should not abuse this privilege and overbear them with too much weight and should be well taken care of, which the porters did a very good job at, not one mule was in ill health or underfed. (I can’t say the same for the donkeys they use in the cities) but in this case they were taken care of. It’s just like some dogs are born to be sheep herders and are “work” animals. If they do not fulfil their purpose and duty of doing this they become restless and unhappy.

I completely disagree with you on this one Rosie. As for the ‘since the dawn of time some animals were gifted to men for work’ is such an outdated way of thinking about animals and I am shocked that someone like you would think that way, but no judgement. The truth is since the dawn of time animals have been used and abused by men for their own purposes. I volunteer for a no kill shelter and we have many horses and donkeys and none of them are forced into doing work and non of them are restless, nor unhappy. In fact they all very happy and playful and enjoy their life to the fullest. My point is that regardless of them being fed well, they did not choose to do this, take all these heavy load of stuff in the horrible heat up and down the mountains day in and day out. They are being forced to do this out of their free will for the entertainment of humans, which is completely sad.

I completely get where your coming from, and yes it may seem strange coming from a big animal lover like myself. I do like to see things from all angles as much as I can, in this case, using mules to pack things (within respectable weight and treatment) I personally feel is okay. It’s no different than riding a horse (should that be considered abuse as it is technically against their free will to carry a human?? ). These animals are born into these climates and are climatized to this weather, not saying they should be pushed, but it’s not as “harsh” for them as it would be say for humans coming from Canada. People need strong animal power to carry material to build houses, transport food, back before cars and building machines this is what they used. Yes, we are blessed to have the convenience modern advancements (in the first world) but still many people rely on animal power in other parts of the world. It’s like people who raise animals to live off their milk, eggs and meat when they live in harsh conditions or don’t have shops around or money to buy these things, vegans in the western world be like - that’s barbaric !!!! but that’s how they survive 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not a debate, just providing another perspective. As an animal love it might still be hard to see and understand, and I get that. There is a balance , and everything was provided for us in this great circle of life. I can say that this isn’t the case for majority of the donkeys in the cities in PK, where they are too small, carrying loads far above their limit and most of them are in a terrible state. THIS is not okay. But people in the mountains treat their animals different and with more respect.
