​@@ScottysAnimals That's impressive with boars! I'm surprised Monty wasn't nipping when Takeuchi ran into the corner house with him. And having the fails included at the beginning is a great example of when the line is crossed between nose-punching/arguments and actual fighting. Seeing examples of when to separate is more helpful than just reading about it, honestly. My girls did a lot of nose punching, but never outright fought during their 3-hour introduction, and they're perfectly happy together now months later. :)

Scotty's Animals Just 2 days ago my neutered male skinny pig got in a fight with one of my female skinny pigs. 4 days after bonding successfully my female attacked my male. I wasn’t in the piggies room at the time (I completely trusted everyone together because it had been 4 days after bonding without any fights) at the time my female bit my male twice terribly on the cheek and back, and scratched him up. My female skinny pig has always dis-liked other skinny pigs, it took such a long process bonding her with my other skinny pigs (including fights along the way). She is always so good bonding with my furry pigs, she has never fought or ever tried to fight them. It’s always the skinny pigs. I wasn’t all that surprised that she was the one who attacked my male tbh. Luckily my male skinny pig is completely fine, no infections. So I don’t have to say “my male” I’ll say his name, it’s Ziggy. Ziggy is a very young skinny pig who was originally owned by a breeder, he was supposed be the father to many babies. Unexpectedly the owner had to get rid of all their pigs, so I took Ziggy. He gets perfectly along with 6 of my girls, it’s just one of my female skinny pigs.

Scotty's Animals My Daughter had two amazing skinny pigs that were a first for our family. Do you find them to be different than guinea pigs? We found them to have a more people oriented and less shy and also not as hardy/healthy as guinea pigs. Ours both died within a short time from each other despite vet care and medicine. We have 15 guinea pig rescues but she really wants another skinny pig but we don’t have many in our area of NE Pa. I would like any info you could give me on them so that if we find a skinny pig again we know more about them and how to keep them healthy. It’s cold here in winter and the skinny pigs would snuggle for body heat so when the first one died the other boy just went down hill. We tried putting him back with the guinea pig boys but he died cuddled up in his Momma’s bed with her hand on him trying to keep him warm and comfy. I’d love a video on the different types of guinea pigs if you can give one! We didn’t realize males are hard to bond until we rescued 8 boys at various times. Just want to make sure we know all we can if we get another skinny baby! Thanks!

Yeah, his name is Cookie Crumble, he has just been so sad because he was in the barn talking to pigs. I feel bad for sushi, but our guinea pig just likes being social and Sushi is just so cute!

LittleLu Acosta I hope that it works out. If not I hope that you will find the right friend at the rescue for yours. It would be great if it does work out though. I would love to see a video if it’s posted let me know. I do understand though some people aren’t comfortable on camera me being one of them. The important thing is the well being of the piggies.

Scotty's Animals that was my question in short. They are not aggressive or so far had any issues being together. I just wasn’t sure what to do because so many say 3 usually have issues and Again I’m not sure as they age how it will work out. I do plan to add to the caging as I know they will get even bigger and I’m thinking have more than one water bottle and feeding spots for them although at the same time I don’t want to discourage them sharing of course. Keeping them together if they are harmonious though is the answer to my question. Thank you so much. I have been watching your videos and a couple of channels that you recommend every day trying to learn as much as I can. You are truly a blessing for the animals and I’m sure in a way they are for you. Also I think we all appreciate the videos that you put out helping to advocate for the animals and helping us to learn all that we can to give our own the care that they need. I also love to see the adoptions and the true affection and love that you have for them and what you do.

Honey Wolff it’s okay to make mistakes! We’re humans! We all make mistakes! Mistakes are what define us as humans! What’s important is that you realized you made a mistake and doing everything in your power to fix them! I too have made several mistakes with my guinea pigs as well and have since corrected or changed my behavior so that I could provide them with a better life. One of the best things we can do for them is to just provide our love and do as much research as we can go provide our guinea pigs with proper care! As for your concern about the trio you have, I’d definitely keep an eye on things as they age. If they live harmoniously right now, then there’s no need to worry. If you ever start to notice any signs of fighting, then be sure to keep an eye on them. Sometimes it may just be a small act of aggression to assert dominance. If things get too out of hand then you will have intervene and potential separate your pigs if they can’t get along. In that case, you might have to consider getting a partner for your lone pig because guinea pigs should never be housed alone unless there are certain circumstances where the situation requires them to be alone. Even in those cases, the line guinea pig should always be housed next to another guinea pig’s cage but separated by the bars of course. That way, the lone pig won’t be completely isolated from other pigs. This is a very rare case though and in most cases, the guinea pig should always have at least a partner. Trios can work too though. In your situation, it may end up working out! Gender can also sometimes play a role in trios though. If you have females, a trio is more likely to work out than if you have males. Males by instinct are more prone to dominance behaviors because in the wild, guinea pigs usually live in herds of all females with a male boar who is the dominant one or the leader of the herd. With that being said, females too will also assert dominance over each other when living together as well because developing a hierarchy system is just natural behavior for guinea pigs. However, females are more likely to get along with each other than males are with each other. That’s why it’s often best to keep males in bonded pairs. However, that doesn’t mean a bonded trio isn’t impossible. If I’m not mistaken, I believe they have a bonded trio of males who live at the L.A. Guinea Pig Rescue as sort of faces or mascots of the rescue. At the end of the day you’ll just have to see how things work out though. Sorry for my long comment! I hope I was able to help you though!

zsand0123 yes you did help me and thank you for the advice and shared knowledge as well as your kind words. Yes my main worry is that later I may need to separate them, although I would keep the cages side by side, and I wonder if it’s better to switch to two duos now that are next to each other or wait it out. I just worry about having to make that change later, separate them and bond them once they are accustomed to the way things are and changing everything.

One has been rumble strutting quite a bit. There has been no teeth chattering or fighting. I have been watching this. Is this a sign though if a problem or might it just be natural as long as they don’t don’t go further with it? The one that he does it with will still get in a house or hut with him and eat as well. I just don’t want them to be afraid if the one rumble strutting. The other is timid and he will eat with them but he mostly stays away if the rumble strutting one is with them.

They might not be able to chew the hay, or pellets because they didn't have the right foods to grind their teeth down and maybe they can only eat soft foods now because of dental issues. You need to check their teeth ot take to a guinea pig knowledgeable vet to check the molars are you near the LA Guinea pig rescue? Saskia can check too. Pasadena exotic animal hospital doctor Kanfer is good.

Claudie C. I have to say some might say that sounds mean but it’s worth a try. My pediatrician said stop feeding your child what they will eat and eventually they will get hungry and eat what they need to be eating just make sure you have it available to them. Of course you wouldn’t want that to go on to long. A veterinarian may need to help if so. Is there any type of appetite I lost the word lol booster no stimulant?

Mine go nutty for the forage stuff. They were very picky at first but now eat all sorts of stuff. Just keep trying 😊

Claudie C. Definitely that could be an issue. A health check is probably a good idea definitely with their teeth but for any other issues as well and lack of appetite possibly.

They tolerate each other sometimes but they get into these huge fights and it's mainly the older more dominant guinea Marlo biting on my youngest mocha

Scotty's Animals I definitely watched it right after I saw this one. I’m working down the bonding playlist. Tomorrow I’m adding a baby boy (3weeks) to a slightly older baby boy (6weeks) So fingers crossed 🤞. My 6 week old was bullied by 2 already paired boars (3/4weeks old). So now he is housed alone , hopefully tomorrow goes well and he’ll have a buddy if his own. Thank you for your tips & videos they’re very helpful. 💖
