In this video I play with my new magic pencil!! I bought it at Minerva Art Supplies in Bath, England
www.Minerva art supplies.co.uk (absolutely fantastic shop with a WIDE variety of excellent supplies)
I tackle a scene from the streets of beautiful Bath which allows me to demonstrate perspective in a quick and loose way with the wonderful colours the magic pencil affords
Equipment List -
Sharpener (must have) Faber Castel
Square sketchbook 220gsm Seawhite of Brighton
Koh -1-Noor Hardmuth Magic Pencil
To see my online portfolio and a link to my Etsy store please visit www.woodwardswatercolours.co.uk
As always, thanks for watching!
Colin

I got a set of these pencils a few years ago: this one (red/yellow/blue), a fire pencil (red/orange/yellow), a patriotic pencil (red/white/blue), and a neon colors pencil.

thank you. i've been using these for quick portraiture as it's just not possible to get stuck fussing with detail when you have a chunky random pencil. i will try them for other sketching subjects now. it's Koh i Noor - like the diamond and the river in india.

This turned out so great! I've been using the 7 in 1 Rainbow Pencil (amazon has them) to practice quick bird drawings in my sketchbook. They all turn out so cheerful and make me happy when I look at them. Using the Rainbow pencil I can concentrate on the bird's form and shadows and not worry about the colors. Thanks for sharing how you draw perspective, extremely helpful.

I really need to work on perspective. I love working on it when I start. but seeing the perspective just hasn’t clicked yet for me. Practice, practice, practice I know, I need to find more time away from my two demanding dogs.

I love line work and I love your video! Even though I’m in the US, I Iike to draw and paint European streets (small format). I fell in love with the old streets when I was there. I just received a couple of boxes of multi colored pencils that I ordered from 2 Chinese websites (very inexpensive, about $6 US dollars for a dozen). The reviews were good, so we’ll see. I’m going to have some fun with these! I can see using them for portraits, still life, and landscapes too! Thanks for the inspiration! ❤

This was great fun Colin! In the days of expensive art supplies at three quid this is a bargain for the quirkiness and joy it imparts to your doodles and sketches - I'll have to get one (plus one of those nice sharpeners too). I love watching you and Toby's joint videos and am keen to try to copy your "flat brush watercolour style" which i like very much. Is there any specific videos of yours i could watch to help me start on? Thanks Martin 🎨🖌️👍

heyy, i loved your drawing! i am 20yrs old and trying to get into MBBS. i love drawing and painting, and i am little good at it as well. but i want to work upon my skill and possibly someday earn a few bucks and more importantly, be able to draw what i want with certain amount of perfection. how do i improve myself, what resources do i use ( as i can't really go to an art school) and how do reach various areas in the field like pencil sketches, portraits, water color paintings, oil paintings, etc?
@Woodwardswatercolours
@Woodwardswatercolours 3 месяца назад
The quick answer is develop the habit of drawing and painting, get some supplies and experiment, watch RU-vid videos, take some classes and if you keep going you’ll improve

I'm not really fan of this pencil, because as an artist myself,i don't want a pencil to make it at my place. I'm a little annoyed by the "easy" use of this pencil, because i think it's important to decide by ourself which colors we want. I don't really like "programmed" art (it's the idea given by this kind of object). Because to be an artist, it's to make according to the soul. But if a pencil does the colors at our place, we don't listen to our intuitivity anymore. The problem is the illusion given by this pencil : people would all say it's fabulous, it's wonderful...But we shouldn't forget that to be an artist...it's to express the soul, and our authenticity. So to choose my own colors is highly important for me. . I think that sometimes with youtube, we think that art should be sensational, while the true essence of art is not to be sensational, but to be true to what we really are. What will happen if the pencil will make orange, while i wanted purple? i prefer to follow my inner langage than to delegates it to a pencil
@Woodwardswatercolours
@Woodwardswatercolours 3 месяца назад
I appreciate the comment and if I’m understanding you and looking through your lense; colour selection is highly important to you. I agree that being an artist is communicating what we see from our perspective.. but you assume that I’m not.. and that in demonstrating this pencil I’m not wanting to open up the avenue of artist.. I appreciate the exchange as it helps me process more and more of the ‘why’ behind doing what I do.
