The underrated part of this is that the Celtics already have some good young guys in the g league and on the bench with cheap contracts. Also have tons of second round picks to be able to develop players into productive bench guys for cheap.
@@raackketeerr4812 yeah I’m sure they will we won’t have spots for all of them so that makes sense. But if they get traded it will be for a solid bench vet or something. Idk what their market would even be if they are in the second apron tho so who knows what happens with them.
Salary cap will go up a lot with the new cba, KP is on kind of a huge paycut aswell. Celtics owner said if you can’t spend, you can’t be the Celtics owner
@@thibz-lx9hlliterally their billionaire status is purely because of the valuation of the team. As far as owners in the nba goes, yes, they are some of the poorest owners technically in the nba
@@thibz-lx9hl Billionaires isn't that much when the salary of running an NBA team + Taxes is $400m. They aren't as rich as the Warriors owners who have that salary and are saying "we're gonna cut salary this offseason". There are levels of richness
I think that's certainly the idea on both sides, but I do think k in years past you could always point to something (more than one something, really) as the reason(s) they fell short, other than the inefficiency of having so much of the teams resources wrapped up in two guys who largely duplicate each other's skill sets. This year, there aren't a lot of excuses. If they disappoint, there could certainly be some changes.
love your videos but some feedback - its hard to see your face plastered over time of highlights. nothing against your face but id rather watch basketball highlights or have you talk in person not try to do both at once. its distracting and a little frustrating. keep up the good work!
I see this, I think the face adds something, but maybe putting it in the corner with a border would be better so the highlights are easier to see. But also agree that I love the content, keep up the great work!
The current CBA expires after the 2029-30 season, so if so, it's going to be a while... And tbh, the contracts aren't that crazy. The players only get 50%. The league makes $10 bil/year with a roughly 30% profit margin (that's $3 billion in profit for the owners, or $100 mil each). And that's just cash flow and just from actual basketball. Many of the franchises are appreciating enormously and many of the owners have other revenue streams from owning the arenas.
It's really a 3 year / $95M contract. His player option was for $39M. Very similar to the CP3 deal who had 3 years for $90M with a 4th year non-guaranteed.
@@AgentZ3R0. It's a great deal for the Celtics. Next year's salary drops by $4.5M vs the player option. That's $30M+ in luxury tax penalty savings. Maybe even $40M.
Do you think 3 years from now when he’s older he’s going to decline his player option? It’s a 4 year deal, he’s not turning down $39ML at that age. Cmon
Pains me to say this as a Knicks fan…but this is a brilliantly put together team! Jrue’s value to a team is worth 30 million even if he’s being overpaid in the back end of the deal
Also the cap spike after the new rights deal kicks in in 25 I think that should help them obviously it won't be the same as 16-17 the league is going to let it build slowly instead of one lump sum idk if it's worth it for them obviously they are really good but we will see how things go
Being that he bordering an all-start Derrick White will likely be priced out of Boston. It’s going to be interesting to see what Brad Stevens will work up.
See, let’s not look at the number today. Let’s figure in inflation which is out of control and has been for several years so in reality in two years, this could be a steel. This guy is all league. Defense is a great playmaker and can hit it from outside he also knows how to win, I think it’s a excellent deal
I have zero issues with the Jrue Holiday contract. He is a true point guard, has a defensive mindset and if the Celtics do win the title this year, with how much the league loves to copycat each other, I think we could see them getting back to more balance on the defensive end of the floor and not so many 140+ point games for teams. It is starting to mean nothing when it happens 40 times a year. Which is insane. 140 points by a single team should be something that happens 1, maybe 2 times in a single season. This isn't including overtime games. But it would be nice after the crapshow at the All-Star game and if Boston wins the title, to see the league bring back a couple of things to balance things out again. Like get rid of the 3 second rule in the paint. Not saying that someone should be able to spend 24 seconds in the paint, but say...10 seconds? I don't think that is too much time. Just doing that and ending the ability to carry the ball on a dribble would bring back a lot of balance. You give the big men a chance to use their height to an advantage again. You see who can really handle the ball vs who can't. If not the carry thing...then bring back the hand check. Force players to have to get creative again. The reason Magic, Bird, Jordan, Dr.J, Kareem, Kobe, Iverson, Miller, Garnett, Dirk, Pippen, Olajawon, Clyde, Barkley and so many others were so damn fun to watch play is that they had a ton of creativity and nuances in their game to go with strong fundamentals. Not a lot of guys play like that anymore. So I am happy to see this. As a basketball fan, as a Celtics fan, this could be a huge turning point for the NBA. Yes, the Salary cap will rise, at least a little bit. But it won't go 80 million dollars higher. It might go 15-20. With small increases to bring it up 30-35 million over the next decade, unless theu just get a huge deal from someone. Personally, if I am the NBA, I want to create a bidding war. Get NBC/Peacock and Netflix to combine forces to carry a lot of NBA games between the 3 platforms, and let Disney and TNT try to match it. I doubt CBS gets in on it. They don't want to interfere with their football schedule. Fox is owned by Disney (the entertainment side, not the "news" side). So, if Disney wants to keep the NBA, more games on ABC, some on Fox, some on Hulu and Disney+ would have to take place. TNT would have to find a way to keep their stuff going as well. But if I am the NBA, I want that bidding war. Because in the 80's and 90's when the NBA was at it's height of popularity, felt like it was every bit as important as the NFL and MLB, NBC had it. I am sure with them wanting to get more eyes and subscribers for Peacock, they would want live NBA games on the service. Want that Saturday Double Header again on NBC. Want the playoffs and NBA Finals. ABC and ESPN...would have to make a much better offer to keep the NBA if they knew NBC was trying to get the NBA back.
I think he was retiring because he wanted to do more for the world than just basketball. Lmao he did finesse though, thankfully he’s not washed and still elite at what he does as a FIFTH SCORING OPTION, otherwise he would have fleeced the C’s for sure
The age and his decline in production on a team that fills the stat sheet already is concerning. I think its a smart move in terms of if they didn't, they didn't have the flexibility to add someone in FA of his caliber right now. What he does off the stat sheet is why he got the deal, but I don't know if in a year or two hell still be able to do all those things. I think has the potential to be a bad contract, but if the cap goes up it shouldn't be too bad. They still have a lot of their picks and young assets (ish) to work with to acquire guys via trade. Its a good move for now, but it could age a bit poorly imo.
This is really a 2yr deal. Team is in “win now” mode. It makes sense if you win…it’s terrible if you don’t. They will trade Holliday in 2 yrs to some other team that is a piece away from a chip
I think it's a very smart move for the Celtics - they have a championship window right now and in 2 years, they can use any of the 4 contracts to trade for a unhappy superstar to pair with Tatum - like Ant Edwards or Devin Booker and immediately retool for the next championship window. Basically as long as the ownership is willing to pay the tax, the Celtics will have a championship contending roster.
I would bet they're trying/investing to get the championship so the team value just absolutely skyrockets then they'll sell part ownership similar to what cuban did with the mavericks, with out selling majority ownership but still getting the huge payday
Jrue is kind of player that no one says he's all time great but every year fighting for championchips. He played good with AD and Rondo, got traded&won, traded again and going strong now with the Celtics. He won second trade too but both times didn't ask or wanted to be traded. Fantastic team player to have but not always shoot well. Glad that he got payed. He's more succesfull than Lillard.
@@theetruth8626 You might be right but Jrue have chance to come champion again and Lillard has not. It's a sport/competition and it's all about winning -they say...
@@heimonen5174 it's a reason why Jrue can't be a franchise player and Dame can don't forget that. It's a reason Dame has more trade value than Jrue. At the end of the day It was a bad trade made by Milwaukee because of fit. And too say Jrue has a chance to become a champion again and Dame doesn't is false. Milwaukee has a very strong chance of being champions as well as Boston. And Milwaukee can beat Boston in a series because they're a bad match up for Boston. Both Milwaukee wins was by blow outs and they dam there won the game that Boston slip by because time ran out. Milwaukee dam there swept Boston this season
@@theetruth8626 I stay strong with the original meaning to win games. Lillard has millions more all Star votes from media members votes for all NBA teams also. Somehow he's over Joe Dumars in 75anniversary selection Lillard have better bisnes deals greater salary and he's been 1.option his whole career..? Jrue Holiday is champion.
@@butt3428 Buddy is a role player, he ain’t getting no hundred M’s, and he’s a role player on the best team in the league so realistically his production is boosted by the fact that the other team has so many other threats to worry about while he’s on the court 🤷🏽♂️ He’s not a game changer for any team who will need him to be a third or second option….. his best chance is if the Celtics move on from one of their stars and keep him, but if you watched this video then you know they can’t even afford it
As a fan of a team with some of their future picks I’m loving seeing these big bags being handed out cause eventually they’ll have to cash in a player for multiple role players and that’s always a crapshoot if that move keeps them competitive. But if you’re winning rings then some owners have no issue paying big tax bills.
Alot of Milwaukeeins hate this new Bucks squad. Dame, Beverly, chowder, Doc, beasley, etc. These are loser Clippers and we lost Holiday! It just doesn't feel like the same team many of us loved
I think the Celtics made this deal knowing that Derrick White is going to get a deal that they cannot match from another team after next season. They held onto what they could
The pieces are great but the main guys are just not good enough. Any other superstar would be better than having a high caliber all star as your main guy
this is the price of winning! If these billionaires are only in it to strictly make more money than trying to win a chip, they shouldn’t own a team. If Steve Balmer of the clips could, he’d probably sign 5 super maxes to 5 superstars if it guaranteed LAC championships on championships
If they choke this year and the next before the finals this is bad...heck if they don't win a ring the next 2 seasons this is bad cause they ain't winning in year 3...
Celtics have to pay Tatum and Brown a supermax plus 30 million a year to Tingus 30 million a year to Jrue and soon Derrick white is all gonna get paid north of 20 mil a year. How do they have the money to keep this core together?
Brown already got his supermax. The Celtics owners have said I don’t know how many times they’ll spend whatever they have to in order to keep them together.
Boston should have waited after the KNICKS game to extend his contract Brunson cooked him all day they could have saved 30 million after that disaster 😂
As a Celtics fan I’m conflicted. On one hand I’m glad we got him locked in for the next 4 season. On the other his contract could turn into one of the worst contracts in the league.
I get it, but the Celtics were able to pivot off of a permanently injured Kemba with two max years left with only a 1st. And they were able to get Al. They just couldn’t let Jrue go after all they gave up for him last year
I mean hes a defender, losing even a little bit of explosiveness will make him drastically worse. A bit of an exaggerated example would be klay, dude is an average, sometimes below average defender. At the end of the deal jrue is probably still a slightly above average defender and an average-below average offensive player. Basically a terrible contract in a few years.
I think Celtics losing to the nuggets in 6 in the finals. Paying jrue about to be 34 that much for 4 more years is ludicrous, also Tatum contract, it’s going to be an expensive roster with no hardware except for dominance in the regular season. Interesting outlook.
You claim to be a Celtics fan but every single post about the Celtics you’re bashing them and doubting them. I’m starting to believe you’re a hater and a troll.

Jrue could possibly be the most underrated player in the league. 33yrs old is young by the way lol. 21-25is a baby. Not even young. Only anomalies do well at that age. I would say 25-29 is at athletics peak. 30-35 is overall peak of mind and body. Jrue will get traded in couple years. Come down to NY. lol. 😊
Boston is dumb as hell for this, you really think he’s gonna be THAT good two years from now? He’s gonna be washed and NOONE in the league is going to want that contract. I know Ainge was an asshole and didn’t pay guys, but damn, you didn’t have to go to the other side of the spectrum
