E Hope you’re all excited for the hack soon! The release date is still scheduled for December, but we’re really close to fully completing it! I promise it’ll be worth the wait
Dood, I can't wait for this. I've had a void in my heart since we went past Black and White's generation. Its lookin' like Christmas is gonna come early this year, ya'll! 😆
@@notgeekgamer5837 It’s unfortunately been pushed back a few days in order to improve the performance and fix some last remaining bugs, the ETA is now next week, January 7th.
It’s really funny how despite Fairy having exactly the same type chart as the modern day, the entire rest of the type chart being completely different makes fairy just inherently feel like a dramatically different type.
Interesting how the theme for Steel type was originally more 'robotics' before getting changed to metal. This'll definitely be fun to try and fight muscle memory of hitting stuff with now no longer super-effective moves.
edit: congrats on being accepted to university!!! i just saw this and am so happy for you!!! when i was younger, i thought that steel was weak to water, i think because of an interaction that i had with a steelix or something of that nature. it made scientific sense to me at that time as well, since high pressure water jets are actually used to cut steel a lot of the time. and i also get the electric/steel resistance backward all the time, and never knew why... i'm so stoked for this LMAO
not even a smogon or competitive pokemon guy at all, but really excited about a modern rom hack that doesn't feel the need to update everything about the battle system to match the most recent gen. the physical special split just feels wrong in pre gen iv games to me, but it's in every rom hack!
I really like how Dark and Steel are the DreamWorld versions, and not imported from modern Pokemon games. It really gives this a unique feeling, something exciting and interesting to explore. I can't wait to see more!
Normal beating Dark is honestly so fitting. Since Dark is basically the “evil” type, it shows that you don’t need to be exceptional to stop bad people.
I still don't understand the logic Gamefreak originally had with Dark being weak to Normal. It really makes no sense, and I can absolutely see why they changed it. Lol. That being said, it'll certainly be an interesting thing to have to work around here.
@@ultimapower6950You could argue that since rock gets to resist fire and metals tend to have higher melting points than rocks, steel probably shouldn't be weak to fire.
@@ultimapower6950You could argue that fire damages steel better than most other things do. Also game balance(why is it weak to fighting is the real question)
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS! You are making an incredible game that brings me back to my childhood. It’ll be like playing red/blue for the first time all over again
OMG congrats on getting into uni! The type chart is definitely one I'll need to download and while I am a little disappointed about Clefable (one of my favorite fairy-types) I still can't wait for this hack
Seeing that type chart and seeing that you haven't touched any of the vanilla type relationships makes me so happy. The design philosophy behind this ROMhack is like something I've dreamed about for years.
@@PlaguevonKarma That is true, I just figured if it had basically no weakness nor a resistance, it'd be about as normal as Normal types are, other than the fact that some glitch moves are actually quite strong and are..."fixable"
Ok I have three questions and a suggestion I understand if you can't answer or do them: Firstly will this have the babymon in it? Secondly will there be mega evolutions and how would it work if so (doubt it)? Thirdly how will time and trade dependent evolutions work? Then my suggestion, add Clefairy in as a starter as a reference to Pink, but also because an even six starters, looks much better than the awkward three on one table two on the other lol.
I can answer the questions for you, at least. Firstly, baby Pokémon have been excluded primarily due to limited cartridge space. Getting a Pokédex size of above 255 hasn’t been figured out yet. Secondly, Mega Evolutions won’t be included, partly because of the complications of adding a feature like that, but many struggle to function the way they would with Special being just one stat. Mega Charizard Y, for example, wouldn’t be nearly as powerful since its Special stat would go off of its less-impressive Special Defence. Thirdly, there’s a special NPC that’ll allow you to trade your Pokémon to him and then back again to allow trade evolutions. Time-based evolutions are given different evolution methods instead since RBY doesn’t have that feature. Hope this helps!
1) Only a few, most were removed for space. 2) No, but if I did add it, it would have XY Speed mechanics. 3) Trade evolutions use a trader NPC on Cinnabar Island, and time-based evolutions are usually using the SpaceWorld methods instead. Clefairy hasn't been made a starter due to redundancy with Eevee. Adding Pikachu and Eevee was a nightmare as-is.
@@PlaguevonKarma well I had a feeling it would be something like that considering it has: a better attack stat making EQ hit harder, a better Special Stat meaning it can both tank Special attacks better and make the blizzard in its movepool no longer a joke and swords dance to power up Earthquake. On another note i wonder if tradebacks are available in game?
@@ultimapower6950from what I understand, yes, there's a move tutor in the ROM hack that gives tradeback moves. Since they're available in the hack, they're a part of the overall KEP metagame Note: it was actually voted on in the KEP Discord server whether tradebacks should be allowed or not and the overwhelming majority said yes to tradeback moves being legal
This is an interesting type chart actually. My only complain doesn't come with the new types, but rather with that Ghost immunity is kept with Psychics rather than Ghost type being super effective. I know this is Gen 1 stuff, and I'm aware: however, a counterplay for Psychics is always appreciated since they were busted in Gen 1, and the immunity wasn't planned I believe, since that was an error in coding. Either way, I'm curious how the new type chart shenanigans will work, specially in Gen 1 play and when we add Fairies, since they were created for the sole reason of countering Dragons, and since they aren't as strong here, I'm really curious to see how they go.
There's evidence that it wasn't an error, given RG Alakazam had a kagome on its head, which is associated with sealing spirits. There's also gold being associated with the same thing, which was associated with warding them away. While there is a person in Saffron Gym saying Ghosts are good against Psychic, it seems this was all very last-minute. Besides all of that, all it would affect is Lick, a very pathetic move that does less than Body Slam even when super effective. Night Shade already hits Psychic-types because set damage ignores type immunity.
@@PlaguevonKarma I see. Thanks for answering! That's actually interesting, and the logic for that would be that Ghost would be completely useless because of how channeling and psychic stuff works to negate the effect of evil spirits, right? Either way, good luck on the game.
Love ur Hack, any chance to use rare candys with cheats. The regular Pokemon Red ones doesent work? Im playing a soullink with a friend and we want to speed up a bit :)
No clue, you'd have to try and MacGuyver one by finding the addresses in question. The reason the vanilla ones didn't work is because of increased bag space. Alternatively, you could seek out the PC inventory in the disassembly and change the Potion to 99 Rare Candies. There's space for extra entries, I believe. The Exp. All was fixed in this mod and gives a Gen 6 Exp System, if that interests you.
@@Iinky94it's an item you get near fuchsia after getting your dex to at least 50, put it in your inventory and you'll basically have gen 6 exp share like she said
Beedrill just got a new target as its the only bugtype with bug stab and dark isnt super effective against poison. Beedrill might get a niche in nu if nothing else
Really cool stuff, though honestly with all the new moves for the added types it's a shame a lot of old mons are stuck with Lick, Leech Life, Sludge or Submission for STAB, and dragons don't even have that. I get the reasoning behind keeping them unchanged but still, it's unfortunate
@@PlaguevonKarmanot really? every steel type has iron head except tricules with smart strike, the two hardest-hitting dark types get false surrender and the rest get night slash, and every fairy gets dazzling gleam
Fairies immune to dragon technically? Does this mean that the game will only have dragon rage as dragon move(In gen 1 fixed damage moves like seismic toss ignore type chart)?
Because the aim is to expand the content of the original game, with all its blemishes. The new types have moves purely to complement them, but I don't see a need with the old types. I'm not interested in adding more Dragon or Ghost moves, because in practice, the types gained an identity around being purely defensive in nature. I think that's cool as-is. RBY is identified by having a type chart that results in very flat damage without many OHKOs, 2HKOs, etc, making interactions feel very realistic. Changing that too much means I'd be reinventing the game, not expanding it.
I appreciate the thought but I can’t really support completely changing the types PLEASE release a version with their normal versions as a side thing at least
The ROM is open source, which allows you to change things like this as much as you want. It's just a case of changing numbers in a file. I'm not personally invested in releasing side versions and dividing the experience. That especially applies to this case, as it fundamentally breaks the balance of the game in the worst way possible.
@@PlaguevonKarma thats fair i guess And i can get behind wanting to preserve the original mindset, and I’ll still be trying it out, maybe I’ll jive with it better One question tho, is ghost fixed? Cuz if we’re staying true to the original intent, psychic wasn’t supposed to be immune Im fine either way on that front im just curious
@@StardustSpectrethere's arguments for Ghost vs Psychic being intended - Alakazam has a kagome on its forehead in Red and Green, which is associated with sealing spirits, and Psychic-types are all yellow which is associated with warding spirits too. There is text in Saffron Gym stating the opposite, which implies it was changed during an intermittent design stage. All very interesting. Given this, it's not been changed, but it would only affect Lick, so...eh?
@stSpectreshadow bone can't be implemented, its defense drop chance is too low for it to be an acid clone another thing that's not too hard to implement though
Articuno is a niche pick because it can take offensive advantage of an otherwise poor defensive type combination. Zapdos G is a niche pick because it can take offensive advantage of an otherwise poor defensive type combination. These are not the same? Oh shit is Psychic type Articuno good?
garticuno is... very very mid it's a recover user with hypnosis, so essentially imagine if sing chansey was faster and frailer its main use is as a backup sleeper on jynx teams, but now that i think about it it could actually pair well with balumba/gengar too...
