I love the Karate Kid. It’s the only classic movie my mother was able to take me watch before she passed in the 80’s

I'm happy you at least got to see it with her. My condolences. I myself lost both mom and dad. But not before I took them to see the 20th anniversary of E.T. I returned the favor since E.T. was my first movie they took me to see when I was 5 years old. Stay safe and have a blessed day.

If you love film - grain is never "distracting". Film grain is beautiful and usually indicates a great transfer, low on the use of the enemy - DNR. All these "grain haters" have probably never seen a raw projected film print.

I bought this on 4k and I thought it's the best it's looked and a classic movie. If you love the movie it's worth getting in my opinion !

Totally agree. I had to adjust settings big time so they didn’t have spray tan skin tone. But resolution is amazing. The training scene where Miyagi is wearing a catcher’s mask- beautiful, slow pan out with sunset lighting. That scene alone is worth the upgrade for me.

This is native 4k so I already had it in my collection. Thanks, must have! The easiest to spot for clarity scenes are dark scenes of hair in very wide shot

For me the Atmos (crickets in Mr. Miyagi's backyard was very noticeable in overhead atmos speakers) and resolution was worth the upgrade, I really was impressed and didn't really notice the skin tone issue on my TV. I think it is worth the upgrade!

The 'hot' skin tones were how the movie originally looked during theatrical run, I remember it well, the dvd/blu ray never looked the same. (I'm not saying it looks natural, it's just how it was shot)

I agree with some of these comments on having to adjust the color but to me it’s not much of a problem I usually tone it down anyway but the resolution and detail is top notch I picked it up it’s a great addition I don’t have any version of the movie I’m used to watching it on cable so it blew my mind lol

Haven't seen this since I was a kid in the 90s, so really it was like watching it for the first time, in wonderful 4k. What a time we live in. Thought it was a good movie, kinda underwhelming action after having watched most of the bruce lee box, but Miyagi is such a great character, and I always like the 80s atmosphere (YOU'RE THE BEST... AROUND!)

Greetings. I got the original KK on bluray & also original Star Trek series on bluray. When I activate pop up commentary features and a person appears in bottom right, their lips move and I hear no words. Why do they talk and no sound? Same thing with Trek blurays. I dont know how to use these pop up features. Can you hear their words on your TV?

i bought the karate kid 4K on VUDU at least with my ultra 4K roku and VUDUI can use HDx mode which gives me back the original color tones and my new 2020 roku Dolby atmos still passes through

Hi, would be great if you did a Criterion review playlist. So far you havent made a playlist yet and I think these are a great tools for the viewers, its a quick and efficient way to separate your content so say I want to see just your criterion review, then I could quickly look in the playlist section and click on "Criterion review" where all your criterion reviews would be grouped there. I highly suggest you do this for your whole channel. Anyway thanks for the reviews, as always.

The karate kid 4K Blu-ray is probably one of the best 4K Blu-ray’s of an old movie that there is. I don’t know what kind of TV you’re using buddy but I’m using the LG CX.

A very heavy front and back loaded video. Avoid the first 1-2min of the beginning and end of this one.

I dont mind grain at all tbh, but this was one of the weakest "old film" transfer I own. It was so soft, there were two scenes that were great but the rest was no different to what your see on TV at Christmas. I was really disappointed. Compared to alien and jaws its dvd quality....
