The weekend where I actually drove properly and improved a decent amount in Senior Rotax.
This is a club meeting at Whilton Mill. I entered as a practice before the final round of the UKC at Warden law one week later. This gave me a good chance to try out a new chassis, build fitness after a long break and to further improve my driving and racecraft.

Thank you for the mention in the video I appreciate it, it was me that had the accident, it’s gonna be a long recovery and I have to have another operation to remove the pins in my leg once it heals but I will be back. Currently laying in bed playing F1 2021 😂.

One note on that seat-time: From Rock Climbing and Skateboarding experience - sports that also require precision and explosiveness in dynamic situations - there's no getting around the 2-3 years it takes to thicken up those tendons and connective tissues. The brain and muscle get there sooner, but building sport-specific, steel-strong support (hello F1 neck, two finger chin-ups) takes constant use at the limit.

I went whilton a couple weeks ago in my senior rotax for first time in about 18 months Turn 1 and 2 is a lot tricker in a rotax then club 100, taking loads of curb turn 1 really did help me but took me most the day to realise. Also definitely a circuit that gets you practicing on brakes and getting confident on braking. We had an open pit lane too as it was a quiet Wednesday's with only 17 karts total.

I don’t know why karting isn’t seen or appreciated with as much respect or prestige as cycling. FFS, Lance Armstrong couldn’t beat Rossi and vise versa in their respective disciplines, but they’re arguably just as rich a each other… I used to own a Honda CRX which was the closest thing to a high-powered go-kart I’ve ever driven, so your karting videos dig deep bruh. Keep it up 👍

Hello, SuperGT, viewer here. Seeing you go backwards in the positions at times really does feel frustrating, but it is within those feelings of frustration that we get to see how hard competitive karting is. So close, yet so far. And seeing learning opportunities in both wins and losses just like you do can only make you better. Thank you for some nice, close racing. Big kudos, & go get 'em. ;)

I drove in karts one time and having no rear view mirror scared the shit out of me, not knowing what's happening behind, I was very slow (because first time) and the other people were much faster than me, so my "race" was basically trying to guess from nothing where people would come from to pass me, trying to stay out of the way, that day was awesome because I wanted so much to drive in karts, but also scary as hell.
@hkr667
@hkr667 2 года назад
The first time karting you basically get murdered every corner.
@Super_GT
@Super_GT 2 года назад
Yeah this is common when you're starting out. I recall when I first raced back in 2002 and I was thinking more about the other karts than thinking about my own driving.
@Richard25000
@Richard25000 2 года назад
When I lend a kart to people to try I tell them this. Look forward ignore everyone and everything behind you. Focus on your driving and line etc. People who are better and faster will get past and its their responsibility to do it safely. If you keep looking back you're not in full control or paying attention to what you're trying to do. I tell people never move off your line as it makes you unpredictable. People behind maybe coming up behind at a high pace and have committed to pass you in a certain way. If you do something unpredictable or lurch out the way its far more likely their will be a collision 💥 You have as much right to be there as them and they will know how to pass you if you just do your thing and keep to a predictable line as you're focused on what you're doing. Also if you keep moving out the way you slow up which means even more people catch you and you never ever get up to speed as the next person catches. By focusing on you, you actually get the opportunity to pick up your speed and then less people pass you. So next time eye's forward do your thing you'll get even more out of it.

I still don’t understand the difference between X30 and Rotax. Is it a different chassis, different engine, different tires? Why is there two separate categories that seem so similar…what’s the point, why not combine them together for bigger grids? From a western Canadian where no karting leagues exist.
@Richard25000
@Richard25000 2 года назад
Iame X30 or Rotax Max is the engine manufacturer and model. Both 2 stroke 125cc approx 30hp. Each category of engine has their own unique rule sets also such as tyres. Mojo for rotax komet for rotax. The underlying chassis etc are the same. You can unbolt your engine and wheels bolt on the other category and race in the other category easily enough. As to why, people prefer different feels of different engined or tyres etc. Also depends what's popular in your local area. In my area you literally only see rotax where others you may only see X30. Generally at a meeting like this they race separately, but if at small clubs where they have 5 or 6 of each they may well race together to boost numbers. But here they have 20/30 per class and the track licence probably wouldn't allow 40 to 50 karts at once. Some times they're even split by weight if there's enough do Rotax 162kg or Rotax 177kg may race separately or together depending on the number of entries. Check out Brent Kadlers channel he races in Canada at a club that uses rotax.

👏👏Look at this! Idk if anyone's told you this but. Notice how when winning doesn't matter you do the best I've seen? could just be the new cart but I've always had a feeling that your desire to win Is the reason you don't, even in GT, sometimes you think too much and just need to drive and free your mind from the data on your laptop and counting every corner. Be the car, be the road. Very aggressive in practice 😆

Hi Steve - Just curious... How tightly are you holding the wheel? Do you get forearm pump? It's important, in a kart, to try not to clamp down on the steering wheel too firmly as this will help keep your movements smooth and calm while cornering. Also, I noticed that when you are following you tend to lose track of your line and, instead, follow the kart in front of you. Particularly on the Saturday morning run, your line was typically faster than the people you were following, but when they blew a corner, you couldn't take advantage because you were not hitting the marks you had been consistently hitting, earlier. Great job! Hope to see you fighting up front soon!

ik it wont be similar to current content style with gaming and onboards of karting, but could u go over how u prepare and workout for karting, it would be really helpful for us amateur karters!

Im new to karting and just got my junior rotax kart. The wheel is quite high for me and is in my line of sight. Is this normal for a average height 13 year old?

This is great, the only thing I can suggest maybe is that you need to load the kart more, make the kart turn for you. You can minimize wheel spin and get the power down better

Holy shit, the zoom in on that driver going backwards on the track for some reason made me laugh so hard I had to pause the video for a bit. I did not expect that at all, it caught me so off guard lmfao.

Really like the footage here, more enjoyable than the onboard for a longer video imo. Congrats on the result as well.
