I got invited to race at the Kart Race of Champions!
I was super excited as this is a really cool annual event. But how well could I do at the circuit where I have secured some of my best ever karting results?

Great video mate, was good to catch up with you on the day - seems we both had the same sort of luck... 🤣

Ya I can confirm that kart was an absolute dog. I had it in heat 3 just before your b-final, and it had no bottom or top end and ok-ish grip. Then I got it again for the A-final, but got swapped at the last second because the chords were showing on the fronts I think. The replacement was fairly average, but anything was better than the original #8 😂. Oh ya sorry for the shove in B-final. It was an optimistic move, but to be completely honest I knew you were screwed being in that kart anyway so I just sent it.

Yeah I saw you struggle in it, which gave me some validation. No hard feelings for the b final contact, was mad as hell during the race but mainly due to lots of little things piling up. Glad you managed to climb up and qualify for the A-Final, absolutely mega drive!

It's a shame, maybe the answer is to have mandatory pits in those races. That way you get a chance to swap out the kart and still be in the race.

I think it's hard to make even that work over a large event due to time constraints. Some events have a warm up lap/two and you can change your kart during that - but only for the finals. At the end of the day it's rental karting and kart luck is part of it

I don’t want to be that guy, but if you watch your video back of when you came in from the B final, you can see me stood up by the barrier next to race control over looking the pit lane. Now I was stood there from my last heat, all the way through to the Heavyweight A final, because we were trying to track the kart changes… and I can say with a good amount of certainty that kart 8 was changed before you went out in it for the final, and it wasn’t changed again after your B final, when Cam Das used it to stick it on pole for the A final. So I’m not sure if the kart came alive, or if the kart had just got in your head ( which I can understand after having it that many times), but I can’t say for sure what it was, all I can say is what I saw!

Definitely not being that guy! And I have always appreciated your insight (and advice)! I have genuinely been mulling this in my head for a while now. Because I saw the pole time and thought "did that get changed after, or was it done before and I was an absolute melon" I think I checked the heavyweight b final and kart 8 was still at the back, so if it wasn't changed after me, I think (or at least I hope) that it turned on after that heavy session. In hindsight, I probably should have stayed out, but I was probably seeing something even darker than red at that point 😂

KROC is an event like no other Yousef and the standard of drivers is incredibly high. What it does do is bring out some bad qualities in drivers making moves that would just never normally be on. Being a one off event does change mindsets… Respectfully, I think you got caught up in that and drove like ‘old Yousef’, which I think you highlighted in the video (discussing over driving) Dust yourself down and go again 💪🏻
@MilkyCereal73
@MilkyCereal73 2 месяца назад
@@mikecoppin26 absolutely so. I think I was too confident going into the day (had some very good races recently), so the second it started to go south, I got in my own head and I think these karts really reward the idea of "less is more". At the end of the day I thought it was a complete dud of the day, but having had a chance to watch my full races back, I have spotted a lot of things that I can learn from!

I was also there, I lobbied for kart 8 to be changed, and it was only changed before the A final, not before the B final!
@anwarberoualsmith8574
@anwarberoualsmith8574 2 месяца назад
So I watched them swap number 8 to kart “A5” before the B final, and after Cam Das did his pole time, I went down to check behind the number plate to see if it had changed again, and it was still kart “A5” 🤷‍♂️ Same process I saw number 2 get swapped to the rocket ship “C6” that walked a couple of heats at the end of the day, and number 20 got put on “C0” which was a solid kart too picking up a few top 3s. I watched it all pretty closely and recorded what I could.

Wasn’t expecting to find Tom Kempynck in a (not so) random, British no less, karting event! Blast from the past as that was one of the guys I started karting with, back when I was a literal kid trying to match the big boy lap times. That Belgian track has been long gone now, sadly. Secondly, comes off very amateurish to have a one day head to head event and allowing people to draw the same kart more than once. Should have been some sort of mutually exclusive randomized kart/heat draw. For the finals, understandable, especially with repairs and/or replacements, but not the heats.

@@SylverPfeil oh wow, small world! That's a really good idea for the heats actually, I might pass that on to the organisers. I've seen this system used before and it can work - I just happened to be really unlucky. I think this system also means they don't have to regrid after every race, which saves a lot of time

Please could you do a video run through with the brake and accelerator on screen to know when to press each? I really struggled keeping the Revs up especially on turn 3 hairpin 1 and the bottom left corner and lost so much time

great video, but i still cant tell if these sodis have power steering like the electric ones so the best person to ask is someone who raced them... so do they?

@@harrypowerracingg I don't think I have ever used full lock on a kart unless it's wet! But they had the same heaviness as what I'm used to, so probably not power steering

Got to get the bad luck out of the way in time for CLUb100!! 💪 In fairness though, I think my kart in the first heat was driveable. And kart 8 in my 2nd heat wasn't awful (think it got worse as the day progressed - except for when you were in it!! You made it look good!)

rotten luck to have the same kart 3 times! Not so rotten when you get a rocket but when it's lower than mid-pack, never a good thing!

@@MilkyCereal73 absolutely! I was lucky enough to be handed kart 10 in my first heat, stuck it on pole and should have won that heat really but finished 3rd. Jumping in that and having a start near the back (before it got switched out) would have been fun! I do wonder if kart 10 then became kart 2 towards the end, as that appeared to be the rocket later on
@MilkyCereal73
@MilkyCereal73 2 месяца назад
@@barrylakes4496 lucky you! Kart 8 did get swapped just before my b final debacle, and it even set the pole time for the a-final (once it warmed up). So potentially that was kart 9/10 from the morning
