there's one more possibility - though I don't know how probable - he has it behind his back - the guitar is on a belt and it's quite easy and quick to push it behind your back. Base has quite thin body and neck so it's possible we can't see it behind paddy's back and leg... but it's just possibility... I've seen him do it many times...
