There was only one Lucy and there never will be another........she was the greatest and we miss her very much. Thanks Lucy...you will always be loved!!
I think it was so sweet how every time she got a standing ovation she was surprised! Such a wonderful woman who achieved sooooo much yet she's humble enough to be surprised about a standing ovation when we all know/knew she deserved it in every single way! Everybody should love Lucy! I know I do!
Lucille Ball is the most fantastic actress I have ever seen. Sure i may be a 14 year old teen girl, but I have never seen anyone as marvelous and smart as her. She made people laugh and I will always watch her show. She loved unconditionally and she was amazing. I love Lucy :)
Tony Randall said it best when he stated that she was tough, but that he would rather work with someone like that than someone that did not know what they were doing because it made it so much easier for other actors and the rest of the crew to be able to do their job correctly, and within the confines of the timeframe that it took to record a program for television...and he added that she knew exactly what she was doing on set, that she was a total professional and that he respected her so much for that.
Ms. Ball looked so shocked. She was an awsome comedian one of my faves. I loved her since I was like 10 (Im 22 now). She was and is the best and is the pioneer of comedy tv sitcoms. But I read that she believed that she was a failure in her career and thats sad to me because she had such an awsome talent.
I know this is late but it Desi actually passed 5 days before this and Lucille basically went right from his funeral services to Washington to be there for the Honors.
I just read the book "Desilu" and they talked quite a bit about how hard lucy was to work with (she even made Sammy Davis Jr. cry once) because she expected everybody to be at their absolute best and work just as hard as Lucy herself did. You are right though, regardless she did have talent.
Check out "The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three", starring Mr. Mathau and Robert Shaw, with Ben Stillers pop, Jerry! Great fun!! And, Congrats to Miss LUCY!!
As much as I love, adore (and every positive expletive I can think of) Lucy, and always will, I thought that Vivian's facial response to the lady boss saying ,"SPEED IT UP A LITTLE" was actually better than the "Queen of Comedies" was. This was one of the truly, uniquely rare times that Lucy was actually upstaged, but I'm sure that she did not mind, because it was her buddy, Vivian, who did so. She would probably say "You go, girl!" But Lucy got the best and longest laugh when she stuffed some of the chocolates in her blouse. That must have been pretty suggestive back then, not to mention controversial, but Lucy made it hysterical and acceptable because of her popularity.
I don't care for the descriptive "clown" in Matthau's narrative. Ball was a great actress and the finest comedienne we've ever seen. Orson Welles called her "the world's greatest actress." He knew a thing or two about great acting.
You have to manipulate and stab people in the back to get what you want? Really, you think this is a sound philosophy? You think that is what life is about?... I have great respect and admiration for Lucy, but I'll never believe your apparent philosophy. I'd rather die in the the gutter than live in a palace without integrity and compassion for my fellow man. I dont think you've done a good job of defending Lucille Ball, I think you have simply dishonoured her with such vile rhetoric.
I do know somebody who worked with her and said she was nastiest person she ever met. She may have been an incredible horrid woman to work with, but boy did she have talent.
