The Kesh Jig in G played by brothers Éamonn & Fionán de Barra on Tin Whistle and Guitar, check out tradirishmusic.com for step by step lessons on how to play this tune.
This is perfect. I'm brushing the cobwebs off the Kesh Jig. I like how you started with the slower tempo and moved up to more of a session speed. Thanks!
truly one of the most expressive, dynamic, and proficient shows of whistle playing i have ever heard. Subscribed. It would be such an honor and opportunity to learn from you.
Looking to learn this on my tin whistle and uilleann pipes...just got back from a month in Ireland and got re-inspired to take them back up after leaving them in a corner for a few months!
Hi Mitch, The tune at the start is called the 'Hob Nobs Jig' composed by Fionán & Cormac de Barra. The three of us recorded it on Cormac's album Barcó a number of years ago. Éamonn
No. Bagpipes require a special grip, have a thumb hole, and use more fingers. There are similarities but not enough that learning one means you can play the other.
Recorder is also different but not too much of a stretch from whistle. Bagpipes have different fingering, drones and are a much bigger commitment. Having said that, most uillean pipers start with whistle to play and learn the tunes and ornamentation.
I tried one of your lessons and I liked it but I was disappointed that you did not go into detail about the ornamentation. At least for me, learning the unadorned melody of a tune is not as much of a sticking point as learning various way to ornament it well. I think your lessons would have more value if you spent some time teaching intermediate to advanced ornamentation.
Is not a tin whistle in G but is it D / Ils ne jouent pas avec une flûte en Sol mais en Ré, sur une gamme en Sol majeur qu'ils démarrent à la quarte de Ré soit en Sol.
Great tunes lads. Looked you up after seeing you play with Damien Dempsey. I went to see ye a few times now. You're a legend, you bring so much to the performance.
You mentioned several times "what we are teaching on our web site"... however, I can not find a link to a web site... please help me find that! Thanks!
The whistle sounds lovely... Is it a Sindt? It's been a while since I've been collecting whistles, but I'd like to try something new. I love my Burke and Copeland, but I love the sweetness of your whistle!
Hi, have been looking for the album Barco and the hob nobs jig! But on itunes i can only find another version that is not as good as the one used on your promo..any ideas on where I can find this? Could be put on to youtube?
dear God preserve us ...this is eye rolling shite...where is the passion..the love of dance..I an old old Aintin and I have to say take me ... take me now...I have not heard such a dispassionate and soul sucking rendition of Celtic music............EVER!!!
Kelley Dundas Williams, It just shows what you know. There's no such thing as Celtic music. Irish music has similarities to Scottish music, but Welsh, Cornish, Breton, Manx and Galician are all completely different. The lads started off slowly to help learners to pick up the tune. God save us from your ignorance.
