Thanks Ivan, really can't wait until they arrive. See a few Red Winged Blackbirds, Eastern Phoebe's already arriving! Be very exciting to see more.. Cheers R
So lovely to watch.A great selection of really pretty birds that we don’t see here. Sounds like your move is going to produce a lot of new and interesting things.Good luck.👍🥰
Thanks Alison, there are so many great birds but I really do miss some of the British birds we have at home! Exciting times ahead, lots to look forward to. Thanks R
It’s wonderful isn’t it, how much you can see with just a simple walk in the woods. I’m quite envious of your cardinals and red-bellied woodpeckers, I would love to see & hear those beauties. Very enjoyable content as always 🙂
Thanks, it really is amazing if you just stop wait and listen and out comes the wildlife. They are beautiful birds but I bet you’ve some pretty good birds too! Cheers Rich 😀👍
Thanks Steve, just seen the massive Pileated Woodpecker, Wow that's one big WP! Yeah, it's going to be a good move I think. Maybe a few more mammalian predators for me to focus on. Cheers R
Richard that was truly amazing video, those woodpeckers are incredible and that Red tail hawk was fantastic it an amazing place there at your local park, you’re certainly getting to know that park really well, thank you for sharing your video with us Richard. Martyn
Great as always!! Snow winter atmosphere but great warm times ahead now spring is well and truly here !! Look forward to your post from the uk when you pop back . And can’t wait to your new location later in a few months ! Take care Richard 👍
Thanks mate, you can't beat a bit of snow to add drama to an image but I look forward to warmer times, lol... Although it's been a very mild winter here. Did a Vlog on my Woodland which is coming soon with some nice trial cam stuff! Exciting mate, can't wait! Wolves, bears, Lynx and Moose will be featured all being well. Thanks R
Loved those Woodpeckers you've got over there Richard and the Male Mallard duck sure is a very underated looing bird indeed, wonderful video to watch as always, loved it. Happy Easter 🐣
Many thanks Raymond, they are delightful birds and I'm hoping to see a few more species very soon! It was nice to show the Mallard, they all need to be admired for what they are, regardless of rare status. Happy Easter to you too, cheers Rich :-)
Wow! Great stuff! We don't get many blue jays here, so I don't have any images of them. Woodpeckers are fun to photograph. I have a pair of cardinals frequent the feeder in my back garden. Wonderful stuff!
Thanks Jon, I love the blue jay, stunning to see and the colours when capturing them on camera are amazing! Can’t beat a cheeky woodpecker and the range of species here in NA is superb. Cardinals are such striking birds, the deep red of the male is stunning, and the female is also a treat to see. Cheers R 👍
Welcome to Ottawa! We are very lucky to be surrounded by a nice green belt. We are also driving distance to nice spots for birding like Amherst island, Wolfe island and some conservation areas
Thanks very much Patrica, can't wait! I've heard there are some great locations quite close by so that will be a nice change for me. I've heard lots about Amherst island, guessing it's a rather popular location as it's great for birds of prey? Thanks for watching and commenting, welcome to the channel. All the best Richard 👍
@@RichardBirchett Amherst is a great spot for owls, short eared , saw whet, long eared and snowys . Although this year no Snowys on the island . Also great for Northern harriers , red tail, eagles and kestrels ! In the summer it’s also very good for warblers, ducks etc
@@patricianadarajah6833 Wow, that all sounds amazing! Lots of favourites amongst those birds and some I've not seen. Thanks for the info, I really look forward to getting out in Nature when we arrive. Cheers Rich 😀
Awesome vid! The next pile of woodpeckers for you to see are Northern flicker (who interestingly is an ant-eater, often on the ground! Beautiful wings) Yellow bellied sapsucker (who spends a lot of time drinking the sweet deciduous tree saps) Pileated (the big guy, nearly tropical parrot sized) -hardest to find only because the pair will lock down a giant territory of a good handful of acres They'll all be in Ottawa when that time comes, probably in outskirts of Toronto too
Thanks Jon, your a great edition to the channel as I always pick up some great tips from you! Hope we can meet up one day, maybe I'll pop down and see you?? I'll look forward to seeing them especially the massive woodpecker! That will be a sight for sure, quite shy I've heard? Best get myself out there in search of a few. Seen some Eastern Phoebe's and blackbirds which have arrived, plus lots of Turkey Vultures returning! Exciting times ahead. Thanks again Rich :-)
@RichardBirchett sounds like a plan as far as meeting up whenever works 😃 Love the phoebes! I haven't seen them yet, but they're a summer regular right on the property! Around home, so far, it has been a lot of ducks, song sparrows, grackles, and robins... It's been holding a +8c by day, -2c at night🤷♂️ All the fancy stuff will start coming mid April.... Green herons (my fav) , all the other flycatchers that summer in South America, hummingbirds, Brown thrasher (this guy is fascinating - another mimic like the starling)
@@DunrobinOntario That's great, be good to learn some local knowledge on the birds! I'm loving the sound of the Song Sparrow, such a sweet song. I'll look forward to mid April, you can feel the warmth of the sun now so it can't be far away. Seen a Thrasher but not heard it call, one to look out for. Thanks again R
Thanks very much Peter, more comments like yours are most welcome! Sadly my channel has dropped in views since my change in video frequency but glad my regulars are still enjoying them. Won’t be long till I move towards you! Looking forward to it, hope to catch-up unless your on holiday again😂😂
@@RichardBirchett I wonder if the RU-vid space is just reorganizing itself. People following channels with a specific interest in the topic instead of people who may follow the channel but not watch the videos.
@@RichardBirchett maybe time for a what's in my bag or gear review to shake things up!! Lol. Or how about saying you are going to do an old school film photography wildlife shoot!!
Lovely footage again Rich. Hearing lots of woodpecker activity round here in the last month - very hard to spot though! Just wish it would stop raining for a decent stretch! Cheers :)
Thanks Mike, it’s great at this time of year when everything is in song! Gives you that boost after a dull wet winter! I’ve heard the weathers been awful at home in the UK! Fingers crossed it improves for you! Can I ask a quick question did you receive a notification when my vlog was released as many didn’t and my views are struggling these days since I changed from weekly to twice monthly videos. Thanks again R 👍
Thanks Colin, I don't mind them but for survey purposes usually. I've used NVG for Deer heard's so I don't spook them in the early hours so if used responsibly then I guess they are okay. Did you have any thoughts?
@@RichardBirchett I feel it's a tad overkill to use during the day time and the someone , Where'as for hunting / pest control at night ..it's a benefit .
