IMO early to mid game players have a big shard crunch, but as an end game player with every journey done and the only characters that aren’t 7* are new characters, and the problem for me as an endgame player with every journey and every TB character, signal data is the crunch just to level up teams; I need Jar Jar at R9 and the same with amidala, obi wan, and Qui gon for the raid because I have to, to stay in a top tier guild, and now that almost every new character needs like 300 kyros and kyros are like the only gear piece besides gear 12 pieces that aren’t accelerated, and when I unlock luthen at the end of this conquest I will still have to most likely spend a ton of kyros and signal data to pump him up to a competitive level
This has been my farming strategy. I’ve pretty much ignored kyros and only gone for character and ship shards. I’m just under 7 mil and I’ve farmed all of the ships and almost all of the characters. Between bronzium and kyros the bottlenecks combine making me feel less bad so I’ve been making good progress on getting older characters to gear 12.
I also finished all the characters from the shipments before buying the currency in each shipment, also helps in TB(though not ROTE). And the currency will be needed again and again. Once you've got a character to 7* you'll never have to farm them again.
I don't think I agree when it comes to characters. (I agree that ship shards need to be prioritized ASAP.) The problem is that all of the cheap/free shards add to our kyrotech demand. (GW shipments, journey characters, free characters, etc.) I don't have a huge backlog of kyros waiting for a character to take them, I have a bunch of 7 star characters waiting for gear. How are more character shards going to help that? If I had infinite character shards dropped on me, my account would progress 0%. If I had infinite gear dropped on me, I would jump up at least 4 million GP immediately. Even though I disagree with this take, I appreciate you putting it out there. Much love to you, Phil. So you sort of are doing exactly what I would recommend. You want to be in the position where gear is what will help your account because it's easier to come by/rush than character shards.
I think the kyrotech bottleneck is worse. Sure, it may take longer to farm a character than kyrotech, but every worthwhile character needs kyrotechs while shards are specific. I'm doing inquisitors right now and it's such a grind. I had all 5 at 7 star before I had even 2 at gear 12.
A simpler way of putting this is a) gear comes from many sources and shards from one (sans crystal) and b) you can panic gear characters if the need arises but you cannot really panic farm shards (again sans crystals).
I did think of a sort of strategy for earlish players where when you do farm gear, if it's on a hard node and you don't have the character(s) 7*. To do that node first
Thank you very much for this video Phatphil! Very usefull for me now that I'm starting farming the Inquisitors to get GI and Reva. I started farming Kyrotechs having my Inquisitors with 3* or 4*. It looks like I have to change the order of my farmings 😝
Love this video topic and very solid logic, thanks for breaking it down Phil! The one area of the game that I really struggle with and don’t see this applying to quite as much is zetas. It still applies but the problem is accounts are inherently timelocked behind zetas with very few avenues get extra other than what you get passively. I have a few teams that are reliced and ready to rock from LSBs just sitting because I don’t have the zetas to equip to them while keeping up with my current farms. I am actually getting to the point where I am 2-3 teams ahead in shards as a mid-game (7.1M) player but am still starving for zetas
