itsJudysLife +CaseyNeistat Be so good if you guys checked out my channel, im currently undergoing treatment for cancer and have made/making some cool videos :) enjoy life thanks x
He said he appreciates people who look up to his work and that likes to meet new people, I didn't hear any part where he comes as arrogant (as some comments state) he also mentioned something really important "bounderies and respect". I would love to meet casey and many youtubers but I would NEVER go to their places of work or house to disturb their privacy or do anything to make them feel awkward. On the other vlog I saw that most people waiting outside where kids!!! You can notice the difference between the adult fans who pass by and say hi without saying I've been X hours here and the kids who are loud, in big groups and even go inside his office (of course not all kids are like that but there's a majority). He has done many activities for fans he even likes to let random people use the hoverboard and stuff like that. I mean there's a time and place for everything and people should understand that.
I agree he shouldn't feel guilty because he kept those kids waiting. They should know that he's busy and can't always take the time to meet them especially around a work place. I would love to meet him but I'd never go and wait outside his office for as long as those kids do.
You should make it so that there is a 5 minute meetup outside once a week at a set time so the people aren't waiting all day, you don't feel guilty and you don't get distracted from your work every day.
Anna Walsh Casey tweeted a video which displayed that it is not a "hover" board. It uses some kind of magnetic thingy(sorry I don't know what it is called). So there are rails of these superconductor/magnets in the park(specially made by lexus for the board) only on which the "hover" board moves. Even a pro skater who is in the advertisement itself said that after long time of use he is still not able to use it properly or has gotten used to it..
Anna Walsh it's incredible what they built but it will never be sold publicly and does need a very specific track for it to hover on. so cool that they did it though
I love lesson time with Casey, i think everyone in the world can relate to him, and the the whole fan thing, i think it shows that he is just a human too, he needs his space to work, and there is a time and place to meet and talk etc.
Greta Mash I hope they stop a little, sure meeting him down the street when hes out its ok to say hello, but when hes working and has to come out during his working day to have people saying " I waited 4 hours for you". Its almost as if they think its his duty to say hello to them. Its not :p
+Greta Mash yeah ikr...it would annoy the hell out of me. it has been getting a little out of hand lately. then again you shouldn't give out your address if you don't want people showing up at all.
He intentionally made himself turn into a celeb? How is that even possible? No matter how much someone on YT wants to become/not become a celeb, it all comes down to the personality of the person who creates the videos + the quality of those videos + how many people "love" this person. You don't just become a celeb because you "want" to. Besides, what gives people the right to creep into the lives of YT'ers? Just because they share snippets of their days, does not give anyone the right to stalk/harass them in person. I never understood why people (fans?) do this. Casey, as with anyone else being a "celeb" are still JUST fellow human beings, honestly.
I admire your honesty regarding fans outside your building (and inside unfortunately). It's not easy to tell the people who love you something that's tough to hear but it only displays your passion for your work that much more. Well done.
"Essentialism is not about how to get more things done; it’s about how to get the right things done. It doesn’t mean just doing less for the sake of less either. It is about making the wisest possible investment of your time and energy in order to operate at our highest point of contribution by doing only what is essential." - Greg McKeown - Essentialism Fun to see actual people like Casey living these things out daily. Very empowering!
I am so glad he addressed the people standing outside his office. It has bothered me for a while now, especially when there is a large group who have been waiting for hours
So cool to see Casey with Benji! I got happy to see that they got to meet each other... I started watching Judy and Benji years ago and I know how good they are as human beings and parents. how hard they work and how much they deserve!
That diagram on "focus" is one of the key tenets of Lean +, GTD, Agile, etc. many of the large corporations are CONSTANTLY looking for way to just get people and teams to "focus and finish". Great way to live your life Casey.
It would creep me out if people randomly showed up at my place of business lol it's not like Casey has a store for people to come shop at or anything where visits like that would be expected lol He has an office. I agree with his statement. Meet ups will be scheduled when he sees fit. It's a matter of respect and consideration for everyone at the end of the day and I'm personally wit that 100%
I'm glad you addressed the dozens of kids waiting outside your office for a crazy amount of hours each and every day. Like you said, its fantastic that they love your work that much to do that, but I can only imagine how much of a distraction it must be at work every single day. Well said!
Casey is an amazing story teller. Just because he's graciously put his stories out there for the public doesn't mean we own him. Emotional boundary is up, LISTEN and don't take advantage of a kind heart.
Could Casey create a vlog so epic that He Himself could not comprehend it? Nice motivational words, never thought I'd take trolling scammers to the 10th degree, but here we are.
"No evidence" lol grow up pats fans. he cheated. but we're over it. the colts would have lost anyway. it's just a shame that he has so little respect for the game and our loyalty to him through thick and thin
There are loads of these vlogs where you do loads of things and it's a great day and then every now and then you have one of these days which are a bit low key and slightly unsatisfying. However this is the shit that makes you who you are! In these slightly rough times, you feel so furiously passionate about returning to that awesome state of mind where you thrive and that's one of the reasons why I hugely admire you!
Casey I think you will like this quote, its one of my favourites If you hit an oak tree 1000 times in DIFFERENT spots, nothing will happen, but if you hit an oak tree 1000 times in the SAME spot, then you will take that thing down I try and apply this to my goals, and as you said focus is the key
I hate when kids that wait outside for Casey say "I've been here for 8 hours!" Sounding like they're expecting a sorry from Casey, not like he made anyone sit out and wait.
What I throughly enjoy about the blog is that I can always take something away! Even if it's a little piece of advice or wisdom it's really reassuring because it makes me feel even more confident that if I put my head to it and stay focused anything can happen! :)
I can't believe people can't respect somebody's privacy . Honestly I would never really wait outside his office because I know he's busy . And I understand he feels guilty about it so he takes time off of his to go to yours . I just wish some people had the decency to show some respect to somebody like Casey .
OK as i said yesterday and today casey himself said it its just so annoying and disrespectful to show up on somebody workplace and ask for a selfie and the worst thing is to act like you did him a favor by waiting 7 hours ! he did not ask you to wait for him that long ! i hope today vlog will in some way stop these people from showing up
I think he's totally right to be a little cheesed off at people waiting on him for such a long time. Maybe a meet up a week could be cool. You could even get feedback from a lot of Bemers.
MY GOD THE SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT IS STRONG IN THE COMMENTS SECTION THIS WEEK. WHINING AND MOANING FOR CASEY TO SHOWER YOU WITH AFFECTION THAT YOUR PARENTS NEVER GAVE YOU
Thank you Casey. I've shared this video with my wife and others. Your answer of "Focus" affected my thinking. I couldn't help but realize that I've been chipping away at many things, which is nothing in the end. I ordered the book Essentialism by Greg McKeown and I'm looking forward to diving in to the book. Always appreciate your honesty and passing on the lessons you've learned along the way. I think, I would add to your slogan of "Work Harder" to "Work Focused and Harder." Keep up with the videos. Keep running.
I think people are misunderstanding what he said. He said it's distracting to have people waiting on the outside of the building, "but I will never say no". What he absolutely doesn't want is people coming *into* the building and going to his office door. That is *completely* understandable, who would want someone outside their door?
Peter Ryseck This would apply to most of us, not so much in Casey's instance because he already pushes himself to achieve the best out of everyday as evident in his vlogs. #nextlevelshit :)
Peter Ryseck He seems to be of the opinion that if you 'do more', you'll eventually get good. When people have asked how to become a great filmmaker, his answer has always been 'make movies'... It's a pretty solid concept. Seriously, its actively difficult to do something every day and not improve a lot. :)
I think that the story behind the 'Do More' tattoo is that he got it in a period of stagnation of about a year, when he made barely any movies after selling his show to HBO, so the tattoo reminds him to not let himself get into a comfortable place again and to always be doing something.
CaseyNeistat I was unaware you spent so much money setting up those meetups for everyone. That was very generous of you to do! Just wanted to say, thank you for still finding the time to meetup with your fans outside of your crazy busy schedule!
The words about the guys waiting in front of your building are so true! But unfortunately nobody ever is interested about what it is like to make selfies with multiple strangers EVERY DAY. This is so time consuming...
I'm happy Casey finally addressed the people waiting outside his studio. I mean I get it that the kids truly admire Casey and his work but they have to understand that that's his workplace and many people are working their asses off on Beme.
PeeHooo No, it's just what he said about visitors and all. Some people are upset with it. But to be honest, I think Casey is right. You have to respect people's boundaries, and waiting outside his business like paparazzi (or worse, knocking on his office doors like creepsters) isn't the right thing to do. People need to learn to understand that. If Casey said it in a different way, the reaction may have been different, but he came out in an aggressive way, saying it pisses him off and all, so people are more upset about it.
He already has one on his door, but he can't stop people from sitting outside the building and he's not allowed to put that sign there unless he owned the whole building.
I'm glad someone asked about the kids that wait. Its crazy that these kids think Casey owes them something because they watch a youtube video. Also turning up at someones door is plane old rude, the kids outside the building is my least favorite part of the vlogs.
Casey, maybe a good idea is to have one or two organised meet-ups outside your building at a time where you have free time. This way you can base your schedule around meeting them and so can the fans. Great work as always :)
Hi Casey, I am one of your biggest fans, have loved your videos (started with the German Water Park) before you started the daily vlog and subscribed to you when you have like 100k+ subscribers. So I want to tell you honestly what I think. As a professional and a person only a couple years younger than you, I totally agree with you. But those kids really look up to you! Heck I look up to you! I thought to myself every time I watch your vlog that the first thing I'd do when I am in NY is to visit you/try to bump into you. But I also know that bothering you on the street may not be the most polite and considerate thing to do. But those kids don't know that! And calling them out so publicly hurts! Because they are by no means meant to disrespect you, in fact it's the complete opposite. You're such a cool guy in the vids and they thought you'd be equally nice to them in real life. As much as I love beme, I love your vids a lot more and think that they will be the main driver to your success. If you don't feel like talking to anyone waiting for you, just simply ignore them or be nice when you see them with a short Hey/How you doing? Or just use the megaphone and do a super simple shoutout. We'd all feel happy enough to call it day.
Casey, you have to accept that you're admired, and unfortunately, famous. Nearly a million people are subscribed to your channel, and hundreds of thousands view your content daily. Those people think that your content is worth spending their time on, you yourself admit it and thank them for it, but some of them think that a handshake with you is also worth waiting outside your workspace. It's a distraction, I agree. Nobody can always cater to everyone all the time. Family, business, and everything else is what most successful people call their priorities but you have to remember that those people waiting outside your door are the people your business depends on. Those people are the ones using Beme, adding to your view count, expanding and sharing your online presence. So what to do? How do I take care of my business while taking care of my business? Super simple. Set up a schedule, just take a five minute break once every few hours out of the work day to go downstairs and talk to people. Tell everyone on the vlog about it. "Hey guys, so I think it sucks that some of you wait tons of time just to see me, I thought about just setting up five minutes at ten, one, and four on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I will go out there and say hi and chat but only for five minutes." Have a timer so you can stay on task and they know what to expect. This way, crystal clear boundaries are made, none of your fans feel like they are little more than distractions, you don't feel guilty about making them wait, and they are happier with the whole experience since it's fair to everybody present. Also,if you're looking for someone to fill a PR slot, I'm definitely not good enough but I appreciate the thought.
Joshua Salazar I think if Casey did that, telling everyone when exactly he will come out, even more people would show up. And you also have to consider the other people working in that building. I'm sure they might be bothered by tons of kids hanging out there all the time.
Joshua Salazar casey doesnt owe anybody anything. hes worked his ass off to get to where he is and shouldnt have to take away time from work just to please some stalker fan boys/girls.
Joshua Salazar Casey doesn't seem like the person who would actually be able to stick to such a schedule. He has it hard enough finding time to spend with his family, but you're expecting him to plan his work schedule around regular meet ups? And I don't agree with you that his business depends on those few people, and he doesn't owe his fans anything. These videos are free, he doesn't even monetize them.
good on you for speaking the truth about people waiting outside/coming in to your office. i think the more youtubers are honest about things like this, the better youtube culture/fan culture in general will be.
My opinions changed on Caisey not massively but These Kids are the ones who have set you up big time in life I'm fully aware He's a professional Film maker I get that it just frustrates me to see a rant about these "kids "people who literally would do anything to just say hello being spoke about in that way however I am still a fan of his work Not his attitude towards certain topics
I've a sneaky suspicion that there was no real question but he and staff needed to address the subject on the fans at the street/door and so this was the way it was discussed..
You do realize everything he had a this point was due to his career in advertising, right? He doesn't owe anything in this video to any viewers of his vlog. But i digress, you don't sound like the kind of guy that thinks before he types.
Yeah, focus is really important. It's so true that if you put all your energy into doing only one thing, you can do that one thing very well. But most of the time people don't know how to focus. There are just too many distractions in life and we always want to do so many different things at once. But as Steve Jobs said, "People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully."
Casey I completely agree with your opinion about people showing up. But there is a reason why you don't put your info on the internet like that.. Believe me, if you would leave your phone number in the description, people would call you all day. You can say "please don't call me" but that's just not how this works. This vlog will probably contribute to people not showing up but people will show up again in a month. Have a nice day.
what casey said about focus kind of annoyed me, not because it doesn't make sense but because what always strikes me as ironic is that i spend a lot of time (not right now, its summer) working really hard at my school work and trying to achieve the best results i can in education. however, i want to be a writer, and so i also would love to spend time working on that and improving so i can make it my career once I'm out of the education system. but i can't spend as much time on it as i would like, because of school. so while i'm working on achieving education so that i can become successful in a career, i'm actually neglecting the skills i what to work at so as to again, become successful in a career. i explaining that in a ridiculously long winded way, but i hope i got my point across. its something i think about a lot.
Your missing his point Completely , the Casey way would be to believe in yourself 100% and put in the work Effort and Focus into your Passion and believe enough in yourself that you can And will Make it as a Writer, that you will give up on your education or st least postpone it while you chase your dream because if you have faith in yourself and truly want and truly believe that you can and will ge successful that you won't need the other education.
It's really interesting to see a more serious side of Casey during the Q&A. He always has a playful, yet slightly reserved personality, and it's just awesome to observe that he's not a normal guy who has just one bag of tricks. His multifaceted nature is inspiring, and inspires me to DO MORE.
4:00 - This is how I am. I'm aware of the fact that I spread myself thin. I've always kinda liked that because I feel I can be "okay" at a lot of different things. But I see what you are saying, I will never be "good" at something if I don't FOCUS!

Casey you have a great point about the kids standing outside of your office and outside of your building. I strongly feel that if you were a businessman that wore a suit etc. and didn't seem so approachable and wasn't not a creator that people wouldn't feel so free to do those things. I remember before Beme it seemed like you didn't like when people would come visit you which I completely understand but of course if there's tons of people you can't just keep them waiting. I thought about visiting you one day but I'll probably just send you a card and maybe see you in the city one day !
