How is it that religions - which supposedly espouse peace, love and harmony - are so commonly connected with intolerance and violent aggression? For millennia, every religious tradition has either fallen victim to or sanctioned violence. Religious leaders are often criticized for not doing enough to stem religious violence. By not publicly condemning every act of extremism, entire faith communities are presumed to be somehow complicit. In an era of turbulence and uncertainty, interfaith action may offer an important antidote to religious violence. The persistent calls for patience, tolerance, understanding, face-to-face dialogue and reconciliation are more important than ever given today’s spiralling polarisation and the dangerous anonymity provided by social media. The Pope Francis is a shepherd, signifying his function as a spiritual leader who tends to the flock in a similar manner to how a shepherd directs and provides for the faithful, carries on Jesus' pastoral duty and is referred to as the Good Shepherd who knows and loves his sheep.

Friend, you are doing logical gymnastics. The context agrees with what he says and with what everyone understood. In my opinion, the current Pope is ambiguous and that is how politicians are, because he has to keep the conservatives and liberals happy within the church. He comes from the Jesuit order of Argentina and they teach liberation theology which is liberal progressive and based on Marxism and neo-Marxism. Aligned with the left. That theology is a reinterpretation of the Bible from the lens of Social Justice. People in Argentina know that he is not traditional, orthodox or conservative. He is liberal. Liberals are those who promote DIVERSITY no matter what.

@josee.1308 Christians are obliged to be concerned with social justice *as well as* true worship and orthodox faith. The Pope teaches about both, but his charism is evidently an emphasis on our failures to support social justice. We must learn to distinguish between off-the-cuff remarks and thought-out teachings that are written out and reviewed by the Church's dicasteries. I agree that the way the Pope phrased his statement is susceptible to misinterpretation. But even the Scriptures are susceptible to misinterpretation (cf 2 Peter 1:19-20, 1 Peter 3:16). That is why the Church has a Magisterium to rule out false interpretations. The Church has already ruled out religious indifferentism. Therefore the charitable way to understand what the Holy Father *intended* to express is the sentiment found in Lumen Gentium paragraphs 14 to 16. Have a blessed day.

@@FilialCorrection My brother. I interpret him because of his origin and his priestly order. Liberation theology itself is a heresy. The Jesuits in Latin America are known for the heresies they say. Many believe that hell does not exist. The commandments are only a guide and are not immutable. The Virgin Mary is only a mother. Among many other heresies. They seem more liberal Protestants than anything else. And in addition, the Social Justice that Jesus promotes is that of the Eucharistic life. A life where one sacrifices oneself for others. It is not the one proposed by the theology of liberalism that has its foundations in Marxism where it is used as a tool for political struggle. Where you sacrifice the good of your neighbor for the good of yourself using the government as a fundamental tool granting it enough power to distribute the goods of others by force. And the worst of all is that the government never distributes them well because power always corrupts.

@cynthiagonzalez658 He goes by Pope Francis and that is how you should refer to him, or in some other respectful way, unless you have committed the mortal sin of schism from the Catholic Church, which is defined by communion with the bishop of Rome in a shared profession of faith. The Church has tolerated political influencing of the episcopate all throughout her history; just consider the Byzantine emperors. The Pope made that decision so as to preserve the visible presence of the Church in China, without which many, many of the faithful would lose access to the sacraments. God bless you.

All religions are not paths to God. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. John 14:6 Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me. Jesus is the narrow way, not religion, or traditions of men that make his word of no effect. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. We are not unified by our traditions, but by the unity of the faith in Jesus Christ our Lord, he is the life. 1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and that we are in him that that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Lumen Gentium says the same thing, and Pope Francis accepts Lumen Gentium. But Lumen Gentium also acknowledges that those who are not formal members of the Catholic Church can still be saved, and Nostra Aetate acknowledges there can even be found holy elements in other religions. The Pope evidently is hearkening to these documents to acknowledge these good elements, without in any way denying that salvation still depends exclusively on Jesus Christ.

@@FilialCorrection The Roman Catholic church is not the body of Christ, the body of Christ are those that believe the gospel of Christ and what he accomplished on the cross. Ephesians 2:8-9 For we are save by grace through faith, not by anything we do, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest a man should boast. The Pope is not the head of the church, Ephesians 5:23-24 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the CHURCH IS SUBJECT UNTO CHRIST, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Colossians 1:17-18 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And HE is the HEAD of the body, THE CHURCH: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence.

@@EugeneHolley-rc6ry Catholics also believe that all those validly baptized are baptized into Christ's Body, and that Jesus, not the Pope, is the Head of the Church. But the Pope is Christ's Prime Minister (Mt 16:18-19 & Isaiah 22:22), and God's will is that all His children believe the sound doctrines (2 Tim 4:3) of the Church He established, since the Church is the pillar and bulwark of the truth (1 Tim 3:15). Sound doctrines are assured by the Holy Spirit, Who dwells in all the baptized all leads us to the truth (John 16:13), but Whom God has promised will speak authoritatively through the bishops in communion with Peter and his successors (Mt 18:18) as well as Peter and his successors directly (Mt 16:18-19), which we see expressed in Acts 15:28 when the Holy Spirit declares, through this episcopal figures, what is God's will for His Church.

@@FilialCorrection Matthew 16 is not saying he will build his church upon Peter, verse 17 says men did not reveal this to him, but the Father in heaven that Jesus was the Christ, and that is how he built the church through revelation, not only to him but Paul as well. Galatians 1:11- 2:21. Isaiah 22 is referring to Jesus not Peter, 1 Tim 3:15 does not refer to any one man, this was a Gentile church not the church in Jerusalem where Peter was. Galatians 2:6-8 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it makes no matter to me: God accepts no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing unto me: but contrariwise, when they saw the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter, (for he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Peter, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Your faith is in the traditions of your religion, and not in what Christ has done for you. 1 Tim 4:1-4 explains Roman Catholicism to a tee.

@@EugeneHolley-rc6ry Do you see the problem? We both cite Scripture, but have different interpretations of it. If more than one interpretation is possible, then Scripture cannot be the only measure of the faith, for then unity of belief would be impossible to achieve. Fortunately, we were told that Scripture can be misinterpreted, and that it must not be privately interpreted (cf 2 Peter 1:19-20, 2 Peter 3:16), and we were told that the Church is the pillar and bulwark of the truth (1 Tim 3:15). From the very beginning, the Church understood that its bishops were successors of the Apostles and carried their same authority to bind and loose, without which we cannot escape false interpretations from leading the faithful astray. Thus, I follow in their footsteps, and I encourage you to do the same.

Firstly, all of the religions of this world are under the dominion of Satan. "The god of this world is Satan." Jesus did not come to bring another world religion; He said, "I have come to bear witness of the truth." Jesus emphasized faith and relationship with one's Maker. Secondly, all humans have the possibility to be saved through faith in Christ Jesus, not just "good" people.
@FilialCorrection
@FilialCorrection 9 дней назад
@dannisivoccia2712 Jesus did establish a Church, and He did command that His followers "Do this in memory of me", referring to the Lord's Supper, the Eucharist. That, at least, is the Catholic perspective and the testimony of the Church Fathers. No one is good but God, so you're right that salvation is not for the good. However, we are called to respond to God's grace and be conformed to a likeness of His Christ, and the extent to which we consent to this, given our circumstances, will determine the extent to which this conformity to Christ takes place. And conformity to Christ *is* eternal life, since intimate knowledge of Jesus is how Jesus defined eternal life (cf John 17:3).

@@FilialCorrection Not sure as to how the topic of the Lord's supper got introduced here. As for the rest; if God has one's entire heart, He is truly Lord. "A people of His own possession."
