I have synesthesia and I see the colors almost exactly as are laid out here. I, indeed, see it spectrally and the only difference is that the LUMI has the B-note as violet; however, if you follow the rainbow (literally), it's B-flat that would be violet/purple, and B as magenta/hot-pink. But I want to make a very important point about this rather special keyboard. The notes make sense sonically as well as psychologically. For example, sonically (texturally) C always sounds robust and warm: RED. While, say, A-flat always sounds cold and distant, even twinkly, like star: Ice blue. These colors are also not terribly different from the musical color-assoications of the Classical composers Rimsky Korsokov and Scriabin. Another example is the purple of B-flat matching the magic quality of songs in B-flat, as in Bobby Vinton's "Blue Velvet." Even Prince & the Revolution's "Purple Rain" was composed in purple: B-flat major. // It surprises me that the enthusiasts are not making this connection. Nor is the ROLI company mentioning anything about their choice of colors. I think this is due to a limited idea of marketing on their part. Yet, I have an ever is even a further, VERY important reason for many pianists to use a LUMI Keys keyboard. Incredibly, it is a 7/8ths keyboard. In other words, the keys are narrowed just enough that the span of an an octave on a LUMI Keyboard is one note smaller than on a regular piano. (ie C to C on a LUMI fits from C to B on a piano!).This means that women, children, and men with small hands can play octaves easier, as well as play 9th chords and even 10th chords (which extend beyond the octave). For decades pianists have been begging for piano makers to provide a 7/8ths keyboard, but the elitist ("purist") snobbery of the big piano makers has prevented this from ever happening on their part. I have been fine-tuning my color theory for years now, as well as my theory of perfect-pitch for everyone. Sadly, ROLI merely told me to get on the inter-active forum they have via eMail correspondence with other users. I'm already a pianist. I did not buy my set of LUMI's to learn from their app. What's promising is that the piano sounds that the LUMI playes off of their iPad app sounds surprisingly GOOD. I'm am currently experimenting on making formal piano recordings directly off of the iPad. I feel there is an extremely important musical innovation going on here, and ironically, I have been working on this idea, as well as other keyboard layouts (including a hexagonal keyboard). But I could not get my videos made fast enough for LUMI to take notice. I strongly recommend this keyboard for anybody with small hands, and honestly, for ANYONE. I swear, playing Eric Saties "Je Te Veux" adds a little grain of tendonitis on my hands every time I play it out on my piano. As of 2020, my theory Pitch Psychology has not been released on RU-vid, but some of my keyboards and work can be seen on my channel here in 2020, The Acoustic Rabbit Hole. God Bless you all.
I looked into it and people say is not great... bad quality keys, not deep enough, it breaks easily. I hope they make a second version with improvements
I had piano lessons for 8 years when little. This will be so fun, also for my kids. I was a huge fan of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, so cool Lumbi took the idea
Was really cool to see you use it on stream and in this video it looks even more awesome! Not only can you actually produce with it, someone like me can actually learn to play the piano with it, that's really sweet! Great video, thanks :)
Wau, interesting vid like no one other. Makes wanna pick up some music instrument. And also can we please appreciate the production value of this video, always pushing the limit. And the background 🔥
Sam not only is the new background sick but this might visually be the best video I’ve seen here. The progression in production is amazing man. Thanks for sharing ✌🏼
is it all steel or plastic? is there any lag on the input from when you press a key to what you see on the screen ? how long does the charge last? I'd like to put headphones on and try it on my free time in the office since nobody is around these days lol
This is absolutely insanely overpriced. I'd pay max 150$ for 25 buttons with LEDs. You can get a fully sized keyboard with hammer action and built-in sounds for 300$. Why should this cost 4-5 times the price of a standard 25 key midi keyboard. Max twice the price would be acceptable for the LEDs and per key pitchbend.
