As Dangerboy gets set to make his Supercross Futures debut tomorrow, Christian Craig weighs in on his future in the sports. This clip is from our upcoming podcast with Christian that is live now on our membership platform - www.gypsy-tales...
Christian Craig is one of the sport of Supercross genuine success stories. From a highly touted amateur career that blossomed into an early professional career marred by serious injuries, Christian stepped away from the sport completely and resigned himself to an early retirement.
That wasn't the end of the road though for Craig as he re-found his love of riding, that eventually lead to him getting a fill in ride that would serve as the launch pad for the second run at a professional career. Fast forwards to 2023 and Craig is coming off the back of his first Supercross title and into a 2 year deal on a 450 with the powerhouse Husquavarna squad.

We have just launched our new membership platform www.gypsy-tales.com where you can get early access to our podcasts, plus exclusive content that won't be posted on RU-vid. It takes us about a week to get all of the editing, social media, thumbnails and captions done for each episode; and the website is a way for us to upload the podcast to our private feed as we record our shows.

@@Tspin317 cause these rich kids can walk away from moto and their parents will continue to spoil them in whatever they wanna do! So they bust their asses and work hard so they get sponsors and win race and make the big bucks! The rich kids see it as hard work and that’s not something they wanna do! Why should they? I do not care for his old man Brian. I did until that stupid ghost rider move at LA supercross. I remember watching it live and all of us being happy for Brian that he was finally going to get a professional win. Then he did that stupid, dangerous, and totally disrespectful move. Basically showing everyone that he was a guy in his mid 20s with the mentality of a 9yr old. When you have hundreds of kids around the country who are 65cc and 85cc motocross racers watching live because they idolize those guys, then its not the message to be sending out. That being said I think his boy Haiden is a great rider, faster, and more mature than hos old man ever was and I think that boy is going to be great. If he learns to ride a 450F like Jett does with that style than Haiden could be unstoppable

If you were young, didn't "have it all", we are a bit jealous of them. They get all the cool toys, time, attention and popularity. That jealousy brings that negative annoyance and makes you want to own them because you immediately (and immaturely) believe it's fake brought on by the money and attention only. It's the parents who that still harbor this ignorant hatred from jealousy that we may blame. But, the Deegan family is just like every other, only they've worked extremely hard and made many sacrifices to where they are. They also DON'T have what many other families have. No person or family are perfect, regardless of money and fame. From the outside, it appears to me at least that the Deegan family is handling everything extremely well. They are still working their a$$ off. The discipline alone to keep everything going while providing everything required to a family to succeed, is immense. Love or hate how they act, their values, whatever ... they continually work to earn where they are. I wish them best of luck, keep it up. Ensure those kids don't let fame get to their heads, which I believe they are doing best they can and pretty damn well so far.

He was mainly talking about the fact that 4 strokes don't need to be ridden in a higher rev range to get the best performance out of the engine, they keep pulling throughout each gear change, unlike the 2 strokes where having the bike in the right gear while keeping the rpm in the sweet spot to get the best performance out of those engines. And that can definitely take a while to adjust to, Reedy said it took him longer than Ricky and James to figure out how to ride the 4 strokes when they did the transition from 2 to 4 strokes. That becomes irrelevant though when you ride the 500cc 2 strokes lol, but what riding those things teach you is throttle control and selection gear change time, as does the 250 2 strokes, but not as much as they can still be ridden in to high or low rpms

I have to disagree about the privileged thing. MX is now a rich kids sport. Not only do the bikes cost ridiculous amounts, but the aftermarket parts needed to be remotely competitive, can double the original cost. Plus land and machinery is required to build quality motos and practice tracks. Plus the travel and housing to get to places to compete. The kid with a 15 year old bike, yet had incredible natural talent, that's living in a suburban double-wide on a 1/4 acre that can only use a shovel on public land or risking impoundment for trespassing, will never be able complete with a rich kid on a brand new machine loaded with aftermarket parts, that has acreage and a half a million dollars in machinery to adjust/ improve a private track. Fifteen years ago, there were top tier riders that grew up making jumps with shovels, and sleeping in tents on race day. Not any more. There's $600,000 motor homes pulling a trailer with $40,000 bikes. It's a rich boys game now.

There is still just as many guys making jumps with shovels as there was in the past , I would say actually more . My first dirt bike was very expensive back in 1980 , price goes up on EVERYTHING . A freaking candy bar costs over two bucks now I remember when they were fifty cents , I remember when cigarettes were 75 cents a pack . If you got the talent you can race but you can't play victim you need to go out and make it happen.
@Matt-416
@Matt-416 Год назад
@@2216sammy For sure, I see them every day, often helping. My point was that they can't compete with the rich kids. Having the talent does not get you there anymore. Sure, you race regionals, on a $700 15yo bike. You make the podium a few times earning a thousand dollars. How is that going to get a poor kid from Pennsylvania to Florida for 3 days when his parents are barely scraping by in a 2007 pickup with a blown head gasket? How is that $700 bike going to compete against a $20,000 bike in the same class? What do you use the earnings for? Fix the truck? Mod the bike? Because a few thousand can't do both. Everybody is jealous of the kid. I get it, they hang money and dad was able to buy the kid whatever he wanted and had all the bikes when lots of other families struggle to get their kids to the races. But damn.

My big thing with the Haiden hate is, if you had that much money, why would you NOT try to give your kids the very best? It’s not fair, this is not a fair sport... hard truth of life is there are winners and there are more often than not, losers

Glad Craig was on, sometimes you just need to see the person without the helmet to understand the person in the helmet. Never been a Craig fan, but this podcast changed that, you can't get from pre/post race interviews when they're trying to stay focused or jacked with adrenaline. Seems like the kind of guy I would like to be around at the track. Hope he starts to click in the 450s.
