In the video I compare the Normal Kjerag to the S/Lab Pulsar. 00:00 Introduction and Shoes Detail 07:20 Fit, 08:40 Ride and Conclusions. Review includes an A/B run with one on each foot.
Both were developed and run to great success by Kilian Jornet but I think with different run type and distance focus with Kjerag leaning longer distances. Neither can be considered a max cushion type shoe.
They share identical 23mm heel heights and 6mm drop with the slightly heavier NNormal on a wider on the ground platform making them about 18g heavier than the Salomon at a mere 7.55 oz /231g in my US8.5 sample. They also share Matryx uppers which differ in fit and construction. Outsoles differ as well being Vibram Megagrip Lite Base for Normal and Contagrip for the Salomon with their patterns producing different rides.
Full review of the Kjerag soon.

Thanks, Sam! Just raced my first 200-mile, the inaugural Cowboy 200, last week in chilly windy Northern Nebraska, a rails-to-trails course. There was about 20 miles of pavement, mostly in the first 75 miles. The Hoka Tecton X was ideal for the first half. But then my feet swelled so much that I shifted to the NNormal Tomir, which I had sized up 1/2 and added the Inov8 Boomerang footbeds. The NNormal was superb as an all-around choice on often sandy trail segments. It is light and forgiving; the foot rides low so the Achilles’ tendons aren’t irritated. Highly recommend the Tomir.

WTG! Wow 200 miles! Our Mike Postaski and Dom Layfield have raced all their 100 milers ( Mike to two wins in Tecton). I know Mike sizes up a full size for 2nd half of a 100. Thanks for insights on Tomir.

@@RoadTrailRun PS the Tomir is a voluminous shoe, Sam, even with the bigger Inov8 insole; I would size down 1/2 even with a thicker sock. Thanks very much for your channel and web site, very much appreciated!

Good morning RoadtrailRun and all the runners from 🇪🇸. Interesting comparison. Here is my like. A nice monday for everyone. ☀️🏃‍♂️🌦

I think it’s pronounced Sherag obviously named after a mountain! Near Killians home in Norway the Tomir is a mountain on the Spanish island of Mallorca where Camber are based and the Nnormal name comes from an abbreviation of Norway/Mallorca Nor-Mal hope this helps!

Thanks Morgan! Have you tried any NNormal?

@@RoadTrailRun No signed up to there website etc to pre order and then was informed they’re not shipping to Australia. Maybe next year? I’ve got family in Scotland so maybe I’ll order them on the UK website & get them posted on to Australia a bit of a hassle!

Looks a lovely area. Love the idea of a shoe on each foot 😁

Very interesting video. But there is a little mistake. There is a rock plate in the bottom of the kjerag, and you say no :)
@RoadTrailRun
@RoadTrailRun Год назад
Yes. Sorry. Now see mention of an “ultra fine protective” layer. Maybe something more like ProFeel than clearly felt hardened foam in SG
@Pittimus84
@Pittimus84 Год назад
I’ve seen quite a few people say sizing is too big, one thing I’ve noticed is almost all of them run ultras, maybe they assumed their normal size would not be enough for foot expansion when that was already taken into consideration with this shoe design as a true to size?
@RoadTrailRun
@RoadTrailRun Год назад
As in video it is big and wide up front compared to SG. And for sure broader than old school Salomon as platform is wider too. Depends on foot shape and usage what would work best for you
@timeonfeet

Great comparison. It'll be really interesting to see if the Kjerag takes off. I think it's interesting how it doesn't necessarily look like a very exciting shoe with the style and design but it may nevertheless be popular if it does the job and has worked for Kilian.

Appearances are often deciding factors for some, and I love a great looking shoe or color but I always focus first on ride then tit. Simplicity of design is a virtue if done right..

To me they look awesome like the pulsar but i dislike the carnaval style of hoka nike... matter of taste and consistency with brand values i guess

I believe the Pulsar HG and SG differ in the position of the plate. In the SG it is closer to the sole. I think it helps prevent the lugs getting compressed into the foam, so better grip and stability. Might also feel more snappy? (idk because I don't own the SG version)
@RoadTrailRun
@RoadTrailRun Год назад
Let me check both versions!

There is no plate in the original Pulsar S/Lab Versions? Only in the newer normal Pulsar Trail/Pro Models, right?
@RoadTrailRun
@RoadTrailRun Год назад
@@Chris_M_Koehler the Slabs have a thin hardened foam front protection/ propulsion. Pulsar Trail and Pro have a firm thicker lower foam layer more full length. The Energy Blades are fingers of plastic and more about propulsion than protection in them.

They never have actually. His original S/Lab Sense was super low stack as well. Here he goes a bit broader than his old Salomon

Please see our SG review with comparisons as a well as our video comparison. Very fine on road for faster running and yes should be better than OG on winter messy roads www.roadtrailrun.com/2022/02/salomon-slab-pulsar-sg-multi-tester.html. Also who test shoes by wearing two totally different shoes at the same time?
@RoadTrailRun
@RoadTrailRun Год назад
Yup. They are nearly identical in many ways, but different in others and created for the same runner.I find an excellent way beyond stats to get at differences and similarities. Makes total sense as long as one is not greatly more worn than the other which these arent't

The NNormal philosophy of making shoes that last longer so people will buy less shoes is faulty thinking. As premium expensive shoes they will be purchased by affluent people who constitute a very small part of the running market. In general, rich people buy much more than the poor and the idea of durability is not gonna have any real value to them. Actually, the durability of the product matters more for the poor, who can''t afford these shoes anyway. NNormal tries to justify the high price of the shoes in a way that is very in vogue and based on the current political and economical trends.
@FuckAdds
@FuckAdds Год назад
I disagree, most runner replace their shoes because they just wear out so a longer lasting shoe implies less rebuy reproduce retrash.... Plus this shies is super versatile, in my case it replaces 2 to 3 pairs. Overall it prevents buyin shoes for specific usecase. Plus they wont update colors and style like salomon and other pushing to consumption. Finally nnormal also sells tomir model at 150 euros that is super durable and affordable. If you enjoy debunking hypocrite marketing there is plenty if other targets arround in my opinion. Pulsar in 2 similar versions for instance ! These brand shoes are expensive sort of luxury but not all the same.
@FuckAdds

Durability and ecology getting stronger and stronger is a "trend" that will last longer than both our lives imho.
