The Killdares version of the classic Irish song "Whiskey In The Jar" filmed live at the Granada Theater. Featured on their Live DVD/2-CD combo UP AGAINST THE LIGHTS
First time I ever heard this song was in a local South Boston Pub my Dad and GrandPa drank in about 65 years ago!!! Still LOVE it. We moved to Cape Cod the next year and the next time I was in that Pub was when my Brother and I came back from Vietnam. When we walked in, the Barkeep said “You are Billy Sullivan’s boys, aren’t ya?” We never got to buy a drink!!!!!!
I‘m from Magdeburg, East Germany. This weekend is the annual medieval Kaiser-Otto-Festival. An irish band was playing. I wished to play „whiskey in the jarre“ and so they did. After, in a break the singe from Dublin brought me a bottle of Connemara. And now I‘m sitting on my roofterrace and love my drink. Thanks Ireland.
Thank you, for the invitation. But I know Ireland, the wonderful landscape (I walked the Atlantic Highway), the amazing people there, the music and for sure the good tasting whiskey. And the green eyed ladies.
We have the greenest grass the best foods and not forgetting our amazing selection of drinks here in Ireland. Uisce beatha is the Gaelic name for whiskey. Literally translates. “ the water of life” Slainte Irish toast meaning health
Oh yea , all of those classically trained orchestral string players with master's degrees & better , would obviously be totally useless with this tune !!! Only one born to the role can play it & do it justice !!!
60-year-old African-American thin Lizzy fan here. Because I’m familiar with the 1970s version of the song I can understand how it means so much more to the Irish people than it does to anyone else. I really like this version because it’s not amateur.
I'm from Dallas and saw them at the Granada. Great shows. They were a fixture at the Great State Fair of Texas for years. Won over many new fans there.
Wonderful musicianship ! Nominally the Irish National Anthem, every Irish bar band does a cover, yet this group manages to breathe some fresh vigor and energy into it. Bravo !!
Das Mädel mit der Geige ist ein über Hammer, aber was soll ich sagen das ganze team ist der Hammer es ist schön solche super musik zu hören Danke an alle ^^
Keep on doing such great work and music. You are very welcome. Even in old damned Germany. Yes we Huns are loving you! Thumbs up! Stay as you are. Kindest Regards. Christian
oh my gosh...this song brings back memories...We used to hear it played by Off-Kilter at Disney World Epcot. When my grandma (who was SUPER proud to be Irish, btw) and my mama would go to Disney with us, they didn't ride the rides and couldn't take walking around in the heat, so they would either shop or sit in shady areas. At Epcot, they would watch Off-Kilter's shows back to back. This was one song I remember loving when I would stop riding a while and go to a show with them. My Gwam didn't make it to our 2015 trip and passed away about a month later. Haven't heard this song since at least 2011, the last trip Gwam came on. Was not expecting to cry today, but I guess I needed it.
Who the hell could NOT LUV this?? It was/is amazing!! Some ppl just cannot SEE..see beyond their “version” ...it is excellent...music & making music is magical . Transforming the mundane
Wowwwww what a band my first time hearing them . They are just fantastic from the drummer to the lady playing the fiddle they could make their instruments talk .. The best version anyone could ever hear of this song . well done to all . Going to look to see can i see any more of this great band .. Everyone of you deserve praise for this version of this old song .. keep it up .. clapssssss west of Ireland music lover .....The young lady playing the fiddle is gifted with great talent ...
Saw them there several times my self I worked for Dr Pepper there and I always would make time to go watch these folks at least two times a day during the whole fair they are amazing live true musicians she gets down on the fiddle like no other
the intro is the sound one gets high from the sound love is made of the sound that permeates the soul to the core finds your heart and moulds it back to life keeps its beat !!!!!! i loved it
Profesjonalizm grupy potwierdzony mistrzowską grą na skrzypcach w wykonaniu Pani Roberty Rast. Aż miło posłuchać. Zdecydowanie najlepsza wersja tego utworu jaką znam. Pozdrawiam.
Loved the fiddle opener. Never heard fiddle so dark, almost hard rock. Whiskey In The Jar is a favorite song of mine and I wasn't as into the Killdares' version as I've been into others. It wasn't bad, just not my favorite. The opening fiddle though made the video totally worth it. Very cool.
Full disclosure: I'm like 4 glasses of Coyote Gold into this evening. This shit fucking rocks. I love people that can play and aren't all autotuned! This is brilliant.
The violin intro on this is EPIC, it leaves me at least with the hairs on my neck standing up, it is haunting, melodic and for me one of the best intros ever. the rest of the performance is excellent.
Ah Roberta... that wicked little smile at the beginning there... Both a heart-melter and a warning. lol ( Trust me, fellas... that's not a woman you can handle, no matter how you kid yourselves. lol ) Truly my favorite version of this. Have to revisit it from time to time, just to remind me that I do have at least a bit of Irish blood running through my veins. I hope that at some point, the Killdares decide to come out of retirement, and remind us all of why we miss them so much.
"Devil take the women cuz they always lie so easy." I have known and loved this song since my childhood. This is a great version of it--just like me bro used to sing.
My ancestors came from Ireland and Great Britain, part of the Marshall clan. Before I discovered music like this, I thirsted for it. I know I carried a sword for a lord in another life, and have died many a glorious death with my sword in my hand
The idea of music even when it is an interpretation of a classic is the freedom of the music itself. Music is self expression. The Killdares did an excellent rendition. And the introduction was unique and I personally enjoyed it. If you didn't like it no need to ridicule. Just move on. Channel you inner hate in a more positive direction than commenting here. Improve an aspect of your life as opposed to attempting to tear down another's. You might find yourself to be happier every morning.
Kevin Fleming agreed. I love completely different versions of a cover. If you haven't heard Brian Justin Crum cover Creep I highly recommend. Or Lemmy Kilmister Stand By Me. Love this!
