Roger opened the door and didn't see anyone...then closed the door. The Sheriff then knocks again and announced that he was from the Sheriff's office. It was then that Roger returns to the door and opens it. Worthy of note is that the Sheriff calmly asked him to "step back"...as soon as Roger Stepped back he was fired upon...he had no idea is life was in danger or that he was doing anything that alerted the Sheriff. After the shots were fired...THEN the Sheriff started yelling "Drop the gun..." It is telling that the Sheriff CALMLY told Roger to step back...The Sheriff was not threatened (he cannot claim to have been afraid for his life), this was an intentional killing...
