Alan Bloom’s The Farm in the Fen is fantastic read. It was him who took over Priory Farm, Factory Road, Burwell. He reclaimed the farm and brought it back into production. Hence the royal visit to it in 1942. My father farmed that farm between 1969 and 1972. He invited Alan back to the farm to see how it had further developed. Ironically, in 1972, our family moved nearby to where Alan had set up his famous Bressingham Gardens. However, I still have very fond memories of our time at Priory Farm. A tragedy that it has all been let go again. But at least it took many decades to do so, compared to the guy who Alan met on the Cock-up bridge over the Lode in 1944 and told him that would happen soon after the war had ended!
