Can you even imagine the thoughts going through his head while he was driving? I bet he was thinking about the good old days. Winning races and friends and family all still living and in his life.
I mean, if they allowed it & waved the Green Flag with Petty ready to race with the next generation of NASCAR racers, I'm pretty sure he would've done just that & would've showed them all why he's The King for a reason. The King ain't exiting the track unless he needs to, say going to pit road for tire change, refuel, etc. My only theory why they didn't let Petty race, was because he wasn't wearing the fire-proof suit, no helmet (then again, he'd probably be happier with noise-canceling headphones instead), no hans device to protect him in case of a wreck, I'm pretty sure the car he's driving didn't have restrictor plates installed (then again, I'd doubt with how fast the stock cars of NASCAR today are, he wouldn't need them really), and the car Petty's driving isn't up to date with NASCAR's safety regulations last I checked. But that doesn't mean that they can't with some heavy modifications.
@@captainfordo3978 All the things you just said were correct. But also- he’s old… and they REALLY don’t wanna risk him crashing- NASCAR, even with all their safety regulations is still DANGEROUS! They’ve had no fatalities ever since Dale Earnhardt but that doesn’t mean it can’t still happen. They don’t wanna risk the King’s safety. And do you know how much bad PR they’ll get if he DOES get hurt in one of these races at his age? Not good.
A journalist was interviewing Richard and he asked Richard about his 7 Daytona 500 victories. Richard, with his wonderful smile said, Well, we lost some we should have won but, then again, we won some we should have lost. So it all evens out. The journalist said, Well Richard, win or lose, you'll always be the king.🏁 I agree. Cool video. Thank you. Mike Pardue ✌
You black flag The King Richard Petty?! That's it, you're fired, get out of the kitchen, no soup for you, I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul. Good day sir!
@@Dk-gl1nh and the awards for most pathetic, hypocritical, and late to the party all go to: YOU! Congrats man. Never have I ever seen someone reply to such an old comment with such a stupid response. Good work on being the first, lmao. Imagine hating somebody for quoting shows and movies 🤣
Instead of the “throwback” race at Darlington this year, it should be an actual throwback. Have some races filled with cars from the 70s 80s and 90s, leading up to the big event, The Southern 500
@@jabber1990 I just think it would be neat, maybe have cars from the late 90’s/early 2000’s instead? Just something cool since this is essentially the oldest running track on the schedule today, why not celebrate the race with some good throwbacks to the past of nascar beyond paint schemes.
I met him once in in 1995. Working at a car rental place in Jackson Hole, Wy. Stayed late to pick him and his wife up at the airport. They were both so nice and down to earth. We got back to the lot and got him a car. I had just bought myself a nice 79 Camaro and had it sitting there up front, I got the nerve up to ask him to autograph my dash. He was so gracious, he smiled and said sure. Years later I sold that car. I have always regretted that move, not that I no longer had my cool car but that I had given away The Kings autograph.
Now that is just too cool, to see Richard Petty driving an old school 43... at Darlington no less. Even more spectacular than if he had done this at Daytona, as Darlington is the King of the Superspeedways and always will be.
Wouldn't that be a sight to see? I wish that that would happen. Racing has gotten boring now. Bring back the Cars from back in the good old days, and let's get back to some TRUE RACING!!!!!🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Everyone who's a part of nascar respects the king, even the higher ups in nascar they respect him for what he's done in NASCAR, it will never be matched by anyone, and i dont blame him for wanting to stay out there and run
Who would dislike this?!🙄 that was BADASS I wish they would race those old cars again! Ya know atleast once or twice just to really put on a show lol 🤙
The King of all racers at the wheel of the king of the street cars!(tribute). This video still makes me feel giddy. God bless the Pettys and the Hemis that got them there!
@@jarrettm3728 agreed... tbh, I sort of started losing interest in NASCAR when Sprint took over the Winston Cup. Nowadays, it's all restrictor plates and gargantuan spoilers that A) slow you down and B) launch you into the air when it slices, then catches the air in a tail slide 🤦🏻♂️
The king comes off the track when the king wants to come off the track. I can imagine him going up to the officials and saying: “You guys got a race car I can borrow? I’m lookin’ to absolutely smoke these guys in the race, get my 201st career win, then come out of retirement.” 😂 😂 😂
My favorite thing...is that a different cut of this scene shows an in car cam and audio...and I think it is either Matt Kenzeth or...i think its Matt but it may be someone else...and the radio goes "They have added a lap here". And driver goes "Why?"...and then spotter goes "43 won't come off the track." and the driver goes "I don't blame him. I'd drive that thing around all day."😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He never did burnouts. Those old Plymouths was his paycheck. He was the first driver to earn a million dollars in winnings. TOOK HIM TWENTY YEARS! Punks are winning that in one race now. They can't handle a 1967 Plymouth. Can't reach the floor and see over the steering wheel at the same time! RIGHT!
