It is now officially proper King of Fighters XV launch day! So lets celebrate with 10 essential tips to help you out! Covering topics easy through advanced, timestamps are in the video if you want to skip around. Make sure to check the playlist linked at the end of the video for more guides/combos/resources as well! If the video helped you out then consider leaving a like, as it helps the video and the channel! Other than all that, its time to play some KoF!
You may not see this but could you make a video on how to play charge characters. I really want to play Meitenkun because charge characters are always really cool but the inputs are just weird and hard to do in a combo. You explain things very well so maybe you could give some insight on what newbies could be doing wrong. This would be so helpful not just for XV but a lot of other fighting games. Never hurts to ask right?
same here. I hope I'm up to the task. The title "King of Fighter" really sounds intimidating. But i got the game today and i want to support Fighting Games.
Especially when the game "assumes" inputs and makes your fireball motions trigger dp moves. Thats always fun waiting for a patch before being able to play dp characters.
@@flashbackfrank8781 I don't think that's going to be patched out he covers it in this video. Say your fireball is mapped to qcf punch and your dp is mapped to Z input punch. If you walk forward and then attempt to do a fireball you are doing the z motion and it inputs a DP. He has a section in this video at 18:50 that explains how to circumvent this issue.
Just be patient about it, friend. All of us older players went through the same thing. It becomes instinctual like riding a bike with practice and patience. Don't rush anything and take very small bits to work on at a time. We are slowing building a fortress (game plan) brick by brick.
Alright there may be some fighting gaming news soon coming in the next few days so if that happens that will get covered, other than that unless you fine folk have some suggestions this is the last of the "core guides" for a minute, with everything being in the greater playlist you can find in the end of this video. Maybe a few more combo guides or working on the character specific guides? I literally don't know just yet im winging it lol
Only thing I'm having issues with is execution/timing and missing possible short cuts particular to kof. Street fighter to kof is a little different lol.
@@rooflemonger you're not kidding, SF was a great base game to learn, really drilled in timing into my head. Once I learned you can "borrow" a quarter circle from a previous move it clicked for me a bit on Kof.
Man, you're like a fighting game bodhisattva. I got into fighting games pretty heavy with strive. Doesn't matter what game I've tried since then. Rooflemonger has the tech. Thanks for all your work!
@@rooflemonger I've already subscribed, I was never a fan of KoF so I definitely need a good resource to not get constantlym wrecked online, lol. Thanks!
@@Raxyz_0 Yeah, they really need to improve their tutorials, i'm playing Kof since 94 so that's instictive to me, but i can see how that would be an issue for new players. Good thing you have Rooflemonger tho!
About the walk forward fireball thing @ 21:55, if you tiger knee a qcf motion, even while walking forward you will always get fireball not DP! Not exactly a beginner thing to master but important for some characters that do it a lot like K' and Iori
I saw tip 6 and when you started talking about banging my head into a wall (and I guess I pulled out hair too), I IMMEDIATELY knew you were going to say Heidern's trial! I did it via mashing before but it was so annoying and 100% unreliable, BUT adding that with your video on Button Hold Trick, now I actually feel comfortable using him! Its like butter its so smooth now!
I just love how they kept the end super combo sound effects from the art of fighting games with all the art of fighting characters. Don't know if anyone else noticed. 🤔
Thanks for all this tutorial content, roofle. Good stuff, as usual. Still cannot believe that I never knew about the button holding trick 😂. Made lots of the trials so much easier 😬.
The buffer is something that is so fascinating to me. I remember trying to do Athena's trial and the Phoenix Arrow cancel into the double half circle super was absolutely killing my fingers.
Another fantastic video. Really appreciate these uploads and looking forward to improving my XV game experience overall (really got to work on my Kara canceling). I had tried out some of the grapplers in passing on the previous games but have had little to no real success in playing them well but I have confidence that thanks to your videos that I can try and take on KOD this year and enjoy it. Looking forward to your next upload and hope you are enjoying KOF XV as much I am watching your videos.
you get the most use for the health mechanic when your opponent starts the next round with a low health character. This was to encourage you to get aggressive against a low health character and not be afraid of losing much health
Cant express the joy i got when I was watching this video and Ryo popped up detailing how to execute his inputs. My brain was getting fried trying his combos, i was like “damn I didn’t think I was this bad” lol. Rooflemonger I definitely appreciate you making all the content that you do. Thanks for taking a newbie like me under your wing lol.
You're doing God's work with these videos. New sub and you're absolutely right, I am one of the newer kof players that xv is my first one 😅 thank you so much!
Watching these as a 13 and 14 vet. It's good to see in the comments people giving this game a chance! Keep trying! You'll love the game when you get the hang of the neutral, input buffers and max mode cancel combos :) we are here to help!
Great video Roof. A friend of mine gifted this to me and I’ve been enjoying it a lot, and your videos are helping me so much considering this is my first KOF game. You’re a blessing to the FGC. This helps me a lot coming from DBFZ haha.
Just want to say, thanks a ton for these videos! Your tone and delivery is extremely helpful as a lot of other "help" videos have a lot of arrogant air to them. A lot more "get gud noob" vibes.KOF has always been daunting for me to try and get into, especially when looking at some of the older game's trials. But these tips on neutral and all of these fundamental shortcut mechanics make it SO much more approachable.
The jump-in tip can very much be corroborated with "If you're familiar with Smash, your jump-in's should be closer to the concept of 'landing aerials' from that game rather than jump-in's from other fighting games".
Great tips Evil Canadian. Tqvm I hope if O.Chris is in this game in the future, i hope his command grab will have the unblockable proximity property like the older games. And if Daimon is in the game too his jump CD will have that counter wired property and his groundpound special move will have OTG property like in kof02um
Bro thank you! The complex moves made easier section is awesome. I was just trying to do Haidern combos and I was getting ready to give up on him. Great video!
I'm from the side of the fgc that has never really played a kof game before this, and I'm really appreciating all the great newbie content for it my friend.
About the 3 bars max mode, most of the time, ' heavy attack , command normal, special move, cancel into level 1 super, then climax ' is the go to max damage combo. In dinosaur case you can get 680 instead of 582, although it requires him to be the last character.
For tip 6, on double quarter circles I'm finding doing a 360 then half circle forward bizarrely works. Really helps when cancelling into them from specials
I've recently started the KOF series with this game (Not counting KOF All Stars) and I've played my fair share of fighting games. However, the motion inputs are where I struggled the most with in this game. Learning about the input buffer has made my life so much easier!
Just for readability feedback, while its good to have the input history during like all of these vids you do, I feel like KOF15's for video guides is pretty small and muted to understand the inputs you're talking about as opposed to maybe Strive's without maybe some overlay text on the screen. I really needed to go back on #6 to understand. Thanks for the stream of learning videos though. First KOF and looking forward to it.
I've been trying literally for a few days trying to figure out how to do the double quarter circle forward then half circle back super and getting it to land. Thank You for describing the input buffer!
Oh man, for Heidern on #6, I knew about holding down > back TK > hcf+HK to buffer Moon Slasher into his super, but I didn't think about those motion buffers you mentioned to make buffering Stinger into much easier! :O Also #8, I'm glad Guard Points work on multiple hits in this game unlike before. (As long as it's still within the guard point frames) I remember in '02 UM where guard points only absorbed 1 hit, making any 2-hitters or more shred them to bits!
That special buffering thing is honestly crazy. I think I was accidentally pulling it off when I was doing Terry's missions (just got the game last night). Definitely something I'm gonna practice, such a solid fun game so far!
Great video. I was wondering why the opponent can still counter hit me even though I hit them first with a jump D, which I assumed can be comboed from. Your tip helped me realize what was happening..
One of the most useful Kara cancel is with dinosaur and his tail swipe CD. Canceling his CD late enough can gain a lot of range, he can surprise the opponent from about 1/3 of the screen and vacuum them into his command grabs.
Man I’ve been wanting to get into KOF but its so damn expensive. The base game is 60 then I have to pay 15 for each character pack and there’s so many lol wish they sold a complete edition
@@rooflemonger Is there a tip that can help for the short hops on controller? I start to use the stick because the pad is impossible for me, at least. Or is it just the good old practice session!?
@@stewl6329 imho stick is better than a pad in all fighting games. I used to play with pad but once i got used to the stick i see a huge difference in my performance.
@@nonmetateams4278 they often say you just need to practice. But the pad is really a pain in the ass. I can't do short hops with it. I think i will look for an alternative.
A KOF with rollback means I can relive my middle school years even MORE accurately by getting bodied by Brazilian Clark players. First KOF I've played at release since 2002. 20 fkn years ago. Jfc.
As basic as this is, I always appreciate it when someone takes they're time making this since a lot of people forget that some people aren't that experienced in fighting games. As a street fighter player, i especially like that you talk about the play style difference
14:20 YOU MEAN TO TELL ME IVE BEEN DOING IT THE HARD WAY THIS ENTIRE TIME LOL JESUS CHRIST. I’ve been doing it that way for so long that I’ve gotten used to it but I would be glad to change it lol
Man oh man! First KoF game. Really went ahead and picked my team only based on my favorites. Played online….. really gotta take your time overall to learn your character, ha? XD
Any tips on Kyo’s DP into half circle back-forward super ? Obviously if you do punch you’ll get super rather than dp. I managed to get it a few times but nothing consistent
There's me doing the Heidern trials the hard way. I can confirm it actually IS possible, but barely. Getting my fingers to move that fast was more effort than I'd have liked. Hardest trial is still K' 4th trial. Even Angel's trials aren't as difficult as that one.
Well dang, now I feel dumb doing Heidern's combo trials the way I did. I mean, I still did them but that is so much less demanding. Gonna adopt that input from now on.
@@nicholasrichardson9146 It was actually half circle back then forward for the dp motion, then half circle forward in the video. If you're talking about what I did, it was forward then quarter circle forward then half circle back followed by half circle forward.
