I,m in the UK and have just found a Cobra in my late mother's belongings along with a Barracuda and I'm just waiting on a antenna to see if they work !

Honestly, my number one was an still is the great can't forgotten HR2510, cobra 138XLR, Galaxy DX 95T2, Watching from Jamaica west Indies !!

I just got a 148gtl my self and had it serviced its going in my truck soon. I also just purchased a Uniden Grant lt the other day because of your videos. I had fallen in love with the looks of it with the green back-lighting and discovered they are a little hard to come by but I finally got one. Lover your videos keep up the good work hope your back is feeling better take care now 😊

I recommend holding on to it since Corba did make them in the Philippines after 94. Excellent radio for $30

I still have my 148gtl, I took out transistor TR24 which is the audio limiter and replaced it with a 10mfd mica cap, put a variable drive and pushed a 150w amp that drove a 3,000w vacuum tube linear. I had a multitude of antenna's, 5/8th wave ground plane, 4 element qubical quad, 2 element qubical quad, inverted "V"s I'll safely say I was able to talk four corners of our planet skip or not. Contacted Tasmania once, which was interesting, and a guy in Cardiff Wales, and I'am located in Commiefornia. That 148gtl is a hell of a rig, if you look inside your Cobra 2000 you'll note the circuit board is 100% identical with the 148gtl.👍 Great video Erik, hang on to that rig, hard to find these days.🇺🇸✌️

Still have mine from the 80’s with chrome D104 handheld and K40 magnetic trunk mount. Mic coming out of the side wasn’t an issue back then because the cars had all types of room. I had a 1983 Old Ninety Eight Regency which had the big bench seat front and back. Great talking radio!

I have the cobra 29 classic Ltd. I've had it for many years and yes it's all peek & tuned. Solid performer. Great video. 👍

I've got both a Cobra 148 GTL and a Uniden Grant XL my Cobra 148 is one of the ones that was made in Malasia the one he is showing here was made in the phillpines and was made prior to the ones like I have that was made in Malasia. What I have been told is that the Cobra 148 was supposedly made in the following order. They were first made in China, Then made in the philipines, then made in Malsia and are now made in Taiwan. I have no idea if that is true but that's what I was told by an owner of a CB repair shop. He said they were all great radios no matter where they were made it's just that where they were made dipicts the order of the manufacturing age of them. In order to find out where they were made it is stamped upon the data plate on the back of the radio. I'll never sell mine it's always been too good a radio to part with. Anyway. very nice radio, do enjoy the old rig demos and hearing you operate, CB really sounds alive and well in the US ! Been picking up alot of skip here in the UK recently on 11m, good listening to the contenital radio come in.

The Cobra 148 GTL DX was and still is the daddy of all time oldie radio! 120 channels low/mid/hi, FM/AM/SSB/CW and Superstar had one excactly the same appearence with their 360FM and back in the 80s I had both with the Cobra having the better bleedover rejection. Then if you wanted the power then there was the Cobra 200 mobile radio that had the Nightwatch facia.

I have one in my truck, works great and it's not even one of the earlier vintage ones. Mine I think was the Malaysian ones made later with the 4-pin mic on the front.

I have the 1991 Cobra 148GTL with all the mods done on it, i also own 2 Cobra 29LTD Classics, and a Cobra 146GTL, as you can see by the amount of Cobras i have that i love them, they are good radios.

A King of classics... My personal favourite is the Teaberry Stalker 9 FDX. Ticks all the boxes. And receive sensitivity is world class for a CB Radio..

Love the 148. Wish I never got rid of it. Finally got my base set up. Might have to add a little more mast.

Love it! That was the first SSB radio someone recommended to me when I got back into CB a while back. I immediately looked on eBay for one and saw they get a premium there - even for the beat up ones. I don't have one of these (yet). But I've got other Cobras like the 29NW, 29 23-channel, a 139, and a wicked 50WX handheld. I've always liked the Cobra products for their "ears" - because they seem to be a lot more sensitive in receiving here in the Pacific NW. I enjoyed my Cobra 148GTL. Unfortunately my next vehicle didn’t have room for it. So I purchased and installed a Uniden PC 122. Another great radio I wish I would’ve kept.

The AX144 was another good radio of the 80s. They had great recieve and transmit audio quality. With the pro 640e model replacement, the quality started slipping.

Cool radio, had it's non ssb little brother version years ago.. seems like I'm hearing the same clowns and mayhem I heard back in the day.. had fun with it but have moved on to Armature Radio ..so much more organized and reliable.. keep up the cool video's..

Wow you got a great deal on that! I myself had a good friend drop off a 97 cobra 29 with an old school superstar mic. Was all beat up an had serious doubts about it would work but low and behold it works! Same thing with the meter lights up but don't work lol. 73s my friend 295 Maine waving

Got one of these at a Goodwill in Kannapolis for $25. Made in the Philippines in 1991 and still going strong. My first cb radio and what led to my addiction to amateur radio.

Great video on that classic unit from the time I was first getting I to CB. Back then, all I could afford was a cheap Cobra 19, though. I've missed the last 3 (pathetic on my end) due to a personal Situation, but how about a live stream soon?

Well my friend l bought a uniden grant xl at yard sale 15 years ago and l had it in my garage never used it ,, know l just set it up with a antron 99 and is working pretty good it covers from 26000 megahertz to 28000 megahertz it only cost me $ 50 dollar back then l'm happy Whit it !! You don't use a number on sideband? I picked "197" when I was around age 15. I do miss the 80's and 90's talking on the CB. Things were really booming back then!

Cobra 148GTL, the real deal! Way to go!

Seems like you need a minimum of 500 watts average and a stellar coax and antenna set up for ssb dx. Cobra 148 is a supreme and classic ssb radio. I have a F version.

I just picked up an old brand new one in a box, never installed, everything still packaged up.. Got my antannae up the other night (my grandpas old ssb channel cat is in need of repair) but I hope to be trying to hit you up soon from sw michigan

Cobra 148 is a great radio But Do not get the newer generation ones. Everyone I know that has it has issues.

Ive one of those with the soundracker function, bought it second hand ,it constantly has problems. Its out being repaired right now.

I have a 148 GTL from the late 70's/early 80's. It has been sitting for over 25 years. I am thinking of getting it set up in my Ford F150. However, I 'd like to get it checked out first to see if it needs any work or tuning up. My problem is this, the only guy anywhere near me who works on CB's died a while back. Do you know of anyone in my general area you could recommend? I also have a 142 GTL which I will most likely be setting up as well. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Cobra 148 and uniden grant xl. All products of uniden both same exact radio made by. uniden but the 148 cobra gets all the attention even though cobra doesn’t make it Cobra is just a marketing name Could never figure this out

It looks like, sadly, they discontinued this radio.

I've owned two of the Cobra 148 GTL over the years. Unfortunately, Cobra has stopped making the 148 series. The 148 has gone through a series of place of manufacturing. First, the Philippines was where the best 148 were manufactured of the side mount mic types. Next came the series made in Taiwan and the final series were manufactured in China with the front mic. Currently, I own the 148 series that was manufactured in China. The series that were manufactured in the Philippines is way better than the ones manufactured in China. I too am a purist when it comes to modifications on these radios. Enjoyed the video please keep up the good work

Hallo. I just got a 23 channel Realistic CB base station yesterday at an auction and it passed both the smoke and explosion test. One thing I noticed on it was some delta tune knob, it turns to - normal & +. does anyone know what that does?

When you say 707 what are you referring to?

If you sell that 148 you will regret it! They are getting harder and harder to find and the prices are far too high and will get worse.

Is it true if you turn on cb 's without the antenna hocked up , you can ruin them ? I got one of these does not seem to work . k40 antenna . turned on a few times without antenna twisted on.

I get mine tommorow with the mail,practicly unused...why?it came without fm and it was on the shelf for that reason..they put a diffrent cristal in it for 27,415 to 27,855. Without fm on it for most cb ers in europe worthless ...believe it or not

You are squealing on am. Try a different microphone. I can't believe I actually heard it. Currently my kitchen radio. The most pleasant radio to listen to. Good luck with that.

How çome they didn't have heat sink on them is it cos they didn't get hot
