From late 1969 comes this record that was issued on the tiny Earth record label. You can find Joey Levine and Artie Resnick's names on nearly every release on this label. This one is no exception, and it's clearly Joey singing here.
The story that seems to be on the internet is that while the Kingsmen (of Louie, Louie fame) were on hiatus from touring and recording, their manager approved these studio musicians to record and put out this record under the Kingsmen name. When the real Kingsmen got wind of this record, they had their lawyers squash it.
Personally, I think that these guys were goofing around in the studio and needed a name to put this under, and came up with the Kingsmen out of nowhere. Just my speculation, anyway. Any concrete proof one way or another is welcome. Enjoy!
