Much underrated period of The Kinks. I think the Sleepwalker album is excellent.

Remember being with mates & girls , slightly worse for wear, and walking home from rainbow to Stepney, with kinks ringing in my ears👍great days.

so simple a set up , no gizmo's no bits of rubbish...they were already sidelined by glam and their music was disregarded as passe..BUt they were and still are incredible ,brilliant, creative and unique. Wonderful.

Their version of "Sleepwalker" is the single best version of this song EVER!!!!!!!!!! Give the boys their due, folks.

Truly under appreciated. I saw them in concert in 1978 and 1980. The concert in 1978 was at a small venue in a small town in Germany, and is to this day is the best concert I have ever seen. No elaborate light show or stage. Just incredile energy and a long set of wonderful songs. These guys were real proffesionals.

@boscoruby: Ray Cooper is a percussionist. While he has played along side many great musicians (as has already been mentioned), he first gained fame as a member of Elton John's band back in the 70's. The members of that legendary band were Davey Johnstone, Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson, and Ray.

Thanks for the info. In the meantime I found and saw it on RU-vid, so that was great. If I had time, I would look up a lot of other documentaries on rock music shown on British and American TV which of course we can't get over here.

Dave and Ray are hot, their music rocks, with great lyrics. There must be good bands today too, I just don't know them

Yes, he played with George Harrison, and Elton John, and Eric Clapton, and the Stones...and many others. His name is Ray Cooper.

Does anyone know how I can get hold of a copy of the documentary "Kinkdome Come" by Julien Temple in 2007. They showed it in a festival of music documentaries in Santiago, but I only learned about it when it was practically over and the remaining tickets for the other films were sold out. I may be one of the few people in Santiago who knows who the Kinks were and would have loved to have seen the film. Would be grateful for any tip!

For the 'orchestrated' Kinks of the 70s, not bad at all! Now if I could find clips of them doing 'Arthur' material live in '69-'70, just the four or five of them...

THIS CONCERT BRINGS MEMORIES OF ME AND DANIEL, WHEN I USED TO SHOW HIM, HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH FOXTEL, EVEN IF HE HATES RUPERT VISION, BUT RU-vid IS BETTER, AND I REMEMBER ME AND DANIEL SAYING, LIVE AT THE RAINBOW, FROM WATSON, BUDDY, AS A LITTLE JOKE I HOPE DANIEL IS GETTING ON WITH HIS LIFE, I NEEDED TIME AWAY FROM HIS NEGATIVITY BUT I AM NO RICH PRICK, WATCH MY RU-vid CHANNELL AAA RU-vid TV OK DUDES

At 2.35, isn't that the theme tune of Hancock's Half Hour either Ray or Dave are playing?

Ahhh. One of those quite rough around the edges Kinks shows ca. 77-80. Even the nights Ray cant sing in tune and the band never quite finds the same beat the Kinks still knocked out it out of the park. I guess you can fix all that nowadays with backing tracks and sweeteners and autotune but more soul here than 90% of shows.

***** No argument there. I probably saw them a dozen times between 1977 and 1983 and most of the time they were tight ... in fact by 81/82 with the band scaled back they were definitely a blistering rock outfit ... but you could always tell the shows where everyone had been partying a bit more than usual after the sound check and/or Ray and Dave were really pissed off at each other. :)

I love the Kinks and their music but they were sometimes spotty and hit and miss playing live. This was due to Ray’s manic performances and focusing more on being a “master of ceremonies” rather than focusing and concentrating on putting on a good performance without any screw ups. Dave was more like this, concentrating on playing well and not so much on prancing around trying to involve the audience and “entertaining” them in a vaudevillian, Las Vegas magician kind of way. If you listen carefully to “Sleepwalker”, they screwed it up. I’ve never really been a fan of their live performances for the reasons I mentioned, I prefer their studio recordings.

Yes , I caught that as well , but that hot solo by Dave on that Gibson Les Paul made up for the slight goof on the key change .

I've seen this guy Ray Cooper (I didn't know his name until I read yuour post) several times, and all he ever does is play the tambourine. Who the hell is he?
