Oh Yes He Is! Oh Yes He Is.. Oh Yes He Is! Oh Yes He Is.. Because he’s a dedicated follower of fashion.. 🤪 HE’S Oh SO FREAKING BRILLIANT!!! AND I BLOOMING LURVE... HIM!!! ❤️💋💋
@@UndeadKiev007 McCartney is a genius musician, but I wouldn't consider him a great lyricist. I do think Ray is up there with Dylan, not sure who I'd put first because their styles are so different. Poetry vs. Portraiture
I still tear up at Waterloo Sunset such a beautiful song when I went to London first time my niece couldnt get over me singing this over and over again
OhMan, I can still remember 1965 and You Really Got Me. Damn. Am I really that old? If I knew I was going to live so long, I would,ve taken better care of myself. But The Kinks really Rock!! I love em.
@jenzeppelin,40 years!! that´s a LONG time!!gg but it´s great to be able to listen to a band that actually has talent!! unlike most famous bands today...
Ray Davies is one of the greatest front men who ever took the stage. I've seen the Kinks and Bob Dylan live at different times. Bob doesn't hold a candle to Ray when it comes to working the crowd into an absolute frenzy. Dylan just stands there -- the crowd didn't get into him.
then again, while being a fantastic songwriter, dylan really isnt a good Benchmark for a frontman. try Ian Anderson or Phil Collins instead. but yes, ray mastered the craft
'He thinks he is a flower to be looked at and, when he pulls his frilly nylon panties right up tight, he feels a dedicated follower of fashion.' It always amuses me that a lot of people think that their 1970 song 'Lola' was the first time they referenced transvestism. Oh, no, it wasn't!!
@fenderstratguy You're not being clear. The fact he's playing to 50,000 speaks volumes. He's not 'angry Bob' anymore, he goes out and plays a vast catalogue of songs, usually different arrangements each night. I love these two fine songwriters in equal measure. The Kinks got ridiculously banned from touring the US around 1965, so Ray changed musical direction and retreated into the old England of his youth (Village Green PS) and the London scene of the late 60s ( a fine example being this).
@Sukkii25 all you have to do is go through their catalog and you'll see your comment is wrong he had an awesome team and he is in that group with the rest of them Genius Songwriter frontman singer musician along with the rest it is a shame they hate each other but look at the Gallager brothers, the Robinson Bros great Musicians, Great Bands, Brotherly Hate creates great music
@merelyapparent Yes, I must say I do agree with you. It is hard to say who´s best at something. Specially in topics which are subjective. Well, then I will say that Ray Davis is the one that I LOVE BEST That might be more like it.
Not many people know that the Kink Brothers Ray and Dave Davies were of Irish stock just like all 4 of The Beatles, all story tellers and great songwriters
these lot were well ahead of ther time, just look at the crowed what a bunch of squares. people most of thought what the fuck r these lot allbout! hahahaha i love em
Hej Yes I still am-.But they do not seem to find me.Any way u go the way is my hey daySweden is cood at Curling.England used to be good at football in the 1960ies.Mr More I think Or was it Linaker?
@Shellback41 He was touring with the Grateful Dead. By the way, they were really terrific. They played one of BD's songs and did it 100x better than he did.
The thing is though @Michele Alba, they should say that when uploading it to RU-vid e.g. live performance from 1973. Otherwise people not in the know think the year is when it was first released. This happens a lot in RU-vid uploads i.e. uploading songs with the wrong year attached.
@Michele I'm glad you decided to delete your other message but it came through my email anyway. Some of us just think it's important to have the correct year for the song. I am unashamedly nerdy about it. Most people just look at the song and the year at the top so yes, if the year is inaccurate, explain it was from a live performance. In this instance, it then would have been correct. But too many people upload songs with the wrong year attached and it's highly annoying
@@KateJayR I for one didn't assume that 1973 was the realease date. I knew it was the year of the performance. If Paul McCartney sang Get Back at a performance today I wouldn't expect the RU-vid video that followed to say '1968'.
@@kopthelotklopp1523 I wouldn't assume that at all and neither do many people who are sharing such links on other sites. People share these links on Facebook all the time and the information says The Kinks - Dedicated Follower of Fashion, 1973. This is all most people will see - the title/ headline.
@@KateJayR this video is precisely what it says in the title. The Kinks performing dedicated follower of fashion in 1973. If people want to assume that means the song was written in that year then that's their problem. IMO.
No wokeness guys! Innocent lyrics, free speech, beautiful mastery of the English language and pronounciation! Different times but so much better in so many ways!!
And I might say, Dylan is very incoherent too. Most of his lyrics are nonsense "Don't wear sandals, cause the Vandals took the handles." Gee, how deep can you get. (That's what I thought when I was 14) Hollies Brown, Oh gosh , it takes the cake!
But that doesn't mean one can't be intellectual without that desease. It is more a romantic nonsense to make ostentation of missfortune. Take Paths of Victory, it's intellectual and is positive , It's wonderful.
It might be a matter of taste. I don't know Brell, but while some Dyland and Cohen songs I find great. Mr Tamborine Man, Paths of Victory Stoy of Isaac. They are too pesimist for my taste.
@fenderstratguy OK so it's 100x better, but it's a Dylan song...so? Dylan's songs have been covered by innumerable bands and have also given longevity to certain bands careers, The Byrds, Manfred Man to name some. He was and remains arguably the most influential songwriter of the last 50 years. You may say his voice is fucked...maybe but he's 70 years old, but more importantly, like many of the old blues singers that influenced Bob himself, it's got shitloads of soul. Take it easy fella :-)
@Dukegrievousangel Lyrics are only part of the song. Comparing the Beatles and the Kinks is apples and oranges. Different messages; Ray Davies was more in tune with the day to day absurdities in life, while the Beatles, in particular George, invoked awareness of a much bigger picture. And the Kinks couldn't come close to the melodies the Beatles created.
