For some reason, I’m fascinated by Kirby’s sales tactics. It’s so antiquated and predatory, and the pro-Kirby people in the comments sound like they’re part of a cult. Bizarre

@@farcenter oh, I’ve been to one of those timeshare sales presentations, and those dudes are relentless. The first sales guy they threw at me tried the sob story tactic. Out of nowhere, he’s suddenly telling me about how he was recently diagnosed with cancer and is trying to make some money to help pay for treatment. When that didn’t work, they sent in one of the big dogs to try to close. He was much more aggressive, tried to use my wife as leverage (she was much more receptive to the pitch), and when that didn’t work, he got pissy with us. I did all that for 2 lousy tickets to Ripley’s Aquarium in Pigeon Forge lol. Never again

@@TriteNight1218 I went thru the same thing in Myrtle Beach. It was through Wyndham. We were told we would get a "tour" of a new hotel little did we know it was a huge sales pitch. They even asked us to put down a deposit to attend the sales meeting. If we didn't show up we'd forfeit the deposit and the free tickets to Ripley's.

You're correct. Some people thrive in this position though. Kids and young adults making 4-5 a week in some cases off commission alone. Not me. I bailed after getting my life threatened a couple times. They'll have people out in shady neighborhoods at 9 pm tryna sell Kirby's haha

I worked for Kirby for one week, hired under false pretenses. I worked my ass off for 12 hours a day for 6 days, sold two vacuums unfortunately on R-loans, and I didn’t get paid jackshit for pushing their product every day and even selling two of them so I’ll confirm 1000% Kirby and all their distributing companies scam you. They’ll hire you and try to sell their vacuum to all your family members.

Way back when I was in college I got suckered into an "interview" for this kind of shit. Being optimistic (read: naive) at the time, I went to the first day of training, and I remember the trainer guy saying what this sales girl is saying. "Keep pulling pads, pull pads". Have pads all over the house. Needless to say, I didn't finish the training and never made an ass out of myself at anyones' house. Those were hard times, money wise, but I gained life experiences.

I responded to an ad that said cleaning, if I knew it was a salesman job I wouldnt have done it. The guy who hired me said that I would make at least $500 a week, guaranteed, amd that I could make my own schedule. I made $100 in 2 weeks, and was required to be there daily and drive up to an hour away to try and sell their vacuums to customers. The customers didnt even know I would be trying to sell them a product since it was advertised as a free floor cleaning. Working for the kirby company was a mistake, I would never recommend their company for anything.

But as we know the catch is knocking doors, sometimes not getting sales. Of course Kirby doesn't offer job security but I've seen it offer freedom to some dealers and that's why I'm addicted. I fell victim to this BS as well in 1998. They put me through 2-3 days of training before they even tell you what you'd be selling. I think the add in the paper read "New electronics store opening soon pays $425 a week" something along those lines. Had to be there at 7AM- until (usually 11PM or later) unload the so called trade in vacuums and load new Kirbys. Guy driving the van would knock on the door and offer a free 2-liter of Coke and a coupon for a free carpet cleaning and shampoo. If you didn't get your required demos done during the week then you had work the weekend using your own vehicle and gas just to get that $425. They even went so far as to take us to what I would call a pep rally in Lynchburg, VA. Basically just flaunting rewards, vacations, and other BS which you can never get.

I took an accounting position in an office in 2007 as a senior in hs. I worked for 4 days. I created an Excel sheet for sales and inventory with formulas instead of just mass inputting and using a calc. The boss saw me hanging around not doing much and asked how I got done so fast. I of course showed him? The next day he had removed my w2 employment and moved me into the sales positions.... I quit working after we went to some hood house and I rolled the best blunt that lady ever saw and scammed them out of $989 for people who couldn't afford groceries.

A friend of mine fell for this bullshit. She answered the ad that said "Guaranteed $400-$600 a week!!!" Her first day there she was told that she was never expected to knock on people's doors and that all she was going to do was set appointments for a "free carpet shampooing", along with a week's training. The first red flag was there were no tax forms to fill out as standard with most new jobs. Come that Friday, her and 4 other new hires are put into a van and driven to a town 2 hours away. The regular employees stopped for lunch, but she didn't have any cash on her so they made her wait in the van while they ate inside for an hour. They went to a very nice neighborhood (as they usually do) and always have a very attractive younger lady knocking on doors telling people of the free cleaning. If they agree, one of the guys rushes into the house, begins setting up the Kirby and told the homeowner to "Help me win a trip to Lake Tahoe." My friend was observing and they were to spend no less than three hours trying go convince people to buy this $2,220 machine which of course a lot of people declined; the machine is ugly, heavy and cumbersome. When she said this wasn't what she thought it would be and said she didn't feel comfortable doing this, they actually ABANDONED her there, saying it was "voluntary resignation", leaving her stranded. She called me crying her eyes out to come pick her up. She called asking about being paid for the week prior and they told her since she didn't make a sale, she wouldn't get paid. She wasted an entire week, 8 hours a day, for NOTHING. The place is always titled something different when you drive past it and the building has had damage and windows broken from angry people who they've screwed over.

I remember doing this for about a week before I quit lol! I went to an interview and the guy made it seem like we were going to become rich or something. Nothing about sales, he mostly emphasized on the big bucks we would make on appointments even if no one bought the vacuum. See they're smart. At first they treat you like employees, but once you get out there and don't make any sales then that's when they're out to get you like sharks. If you don't sell they treat you like shit and basically insult you in trying to force you to make a sale. Lmao thank God I left.

I worked for Kirby for about 4 months in 2013. Made about 4k a month on a good run of referrals, I was very relaxed and non salesey with people which seemed to work better than pulling pads like an asshole. Ended up going back to construction because money I was making didn't add up with gas/lifestyle I was living (random schedule, being in gross houses at times, telling people I sell vacuums in home embarrassing). Now 31 moving heavy equipment in trucking making 120k/year. My advice to people working in this type of sales. The amount of hustle and energy it takes to make money in this career could be directed elsewhere and make you much more money. Provide your labor and service towards more honest work that doesn't require selling over priced equipment to make money. Life is better this way.

Did you get your free paper towels yet?" and then hand them the paper towels while saying they were only free if we could come do a "Free Carpet Shampoo" in any room. And proceeding to take them back when they refused. Such a sham for a $2000 dollar vacuum.

@MrzChampagne
@MrzChampagne 6 лет назад
Josh Peters actually th3 vacuums you are referring to only pushes dirt into the carpet while stripping the surface. It is well known that without the shake and vibrate technology there is no way to get the dirt and mites out of carpet and beds. The real scam is the $300 vacs people get just to still have a filthy home. You may not sleep on your carpet but you do sleep on a mite infested bed. This is a wonderful vacuum cleaner. You can get on on eBay for 500. Whats 200 dollars more for something that lasts so long? Or you can buy from kirby and get a lifetime warranty. Either way if you see how clients vacuum with their fake high end models then we come in and actually suck up the dirt then you'd understand.

I sold Kirby for a month back in 1999, they were $1500 at the time. The vacuums are legit, but they don’t pay their salesman shit. I was promised $500 per week, only made $200, sold 6 vacuums, didn’t get a dollar in commission. My “team leader” that sat in the air conditioned truck collected all the commission. Their sales tactics are shady as hell, they intentionally target low income neighborhoods hoping to prey on people who are naive about the financing. Good vacuums, trash company.

I came home walked in the back door stopped at the fridge to get a glass of tea , could hear my wife talking i stood there for a couple mins. during that time i heard my wife say that she was not interested and asked him to leave at least 4 times, at this point i entered the room and asked the man if he understood English because my wife asked you to leave and that she wont ask again. I was in my usual work clothes i put my hand on my hips which opened my coat and he saw my duty weapon and Detective badge . He immediately grabbed his kirby and was out the door without saying another word, Have not had a problem with anyone else coming to sell her a vacuum cleaner.I understand people have to earn a living BUT if you are in someone's home they advise that they are not interested and want you to leave , that is exactly what you should do. period

I responded to an ad under "general labor" on Craigslist for a "carpet cleaning position.". The ad mentioned nothing of salesmanship: If it did, I wouldn't respond to it. I felt like their was something sketchy when I interviewed with this slick rick recruiter: Joe Martinez (864-323-3766, lives in South Carolina, tall, overweight African American male) I repeatedly asked him throughout the course of 4 days if the position was a dedicated carpet cleaning position. He said yes each time. During the course of training he would accept video calls from multiple Puerto Rican women he was having flown to the U.S. to pamper as their sugar daddy. After training was over, on the fifth day, he pulled me aside and told me the owner, " Mr. Nelson" wasn't looking for carpet cleaners, only salesman. I asked him who put the Craigslist ad up. He said the owner. I told him I responded to an ad for carpet cleaning and it didn't mention sales at all. He said to call him back three days later for the carpet cleaning position. I was then ignored and evaded and no message or phone call was returned. Never respond to a Kirby ad online. It is true that they lie to try and garner door to door salesman to sell the Kirby vacuum. I spent 4 days and over 3 hours of driving time going to a building without its own sign(sketchy), and I haven't reimbursed for anything. Stay away from Kirby Vaccuum ads, they will waste your time! Horrible, greedy, immoral company. P.S.: the Vaccuum they try to hock off at $2,000.00 only costs them $600.00 to $800.00 to get.

I thought Kirby Salespeople would be smarter than this @0:26 they turn off the Kirby while the nozzle is touching the carpet. That alone will make the belt ware out quicker overtime. Not only that the Demos that they do of the Kirby are very misleading because they use that Dirt meter thing and have no bag attached to the machine which creates more airflow but once you add the bad to it it decreases the amount of air flow going through the thing. Don't get me wrong Kirby makes good Vacuums even with the bag attached they still can pull up alot of dirt.

Because vacuuming isn’t the same thing as steam cleaning, which is what those carpets need. The shampooer attachment for these do an okay job and work great as maintenance shampooing in between professional steam cleanings. They also work great as a pre-treatment right before steam cleaning.
@Cleaning_Hero
@Cleaning_Hero 4 года назад
In other words, professional cleaners use an enzyme chemical pre-treatment(which Kirby shampooer is) to get the soil/oils to let go of the carpet fibers, then something to suck up the soil/oils (steam cleaner).

The Kirby is expensive and heavy, but there is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that NOTHING gets dirt out of a carpet like this machine. We used to do tests where the customer would run their vacuum over the same spot 100 times or more to try to get every last bit of dirt out of that area, but it never failed...the Kirby ALWAYS pulled more dirt, and I mean a lot. If you do a good demo of the machine and show people what it can do, they will want it.

The worst mantra drummed into us when I foolishly became involved in this joke was "If a customer says no it's because they don't know enough"! Or in other words,don't take no for an answer....this is their philosophy and I saw it in action in my second week.Going into a young couple's home with an "experienced seller",I was there to observe.I was there until after 1 o'clock in the morning as this guy bullied,harassed and spun this couple in knots.Thankfully they didn't succumb (I don't think they had the means to) The whole thing is based on conning people with various lies.The awful irony is that the machine itself is remarkable....but it's a shitty way of selling it!

the kirby is a dam good (cough) HOOVER (cough), i worked for them for a little while, had some fun met some very nice people, shame the company was run by some real ass hats, screwing sales men & women out of their commission. first kirby my family bought was nearly over 20 years old when we traded it in for a new one, worst mistake we ever made, the new one did not come with all the tools that came with the old one, like the drill, the buffer and such, they made the kirby more complicated which meant more could go wrong, the original was simple but effective, classic III i think it was the first one we got. i would recommend anyone offered the old kirby without the motor assist to grab it, it will last more than your life time.

I don’t know what to do, it was supposed to be a present for me but I definitely can’t take it, she just won’t be able to pay for it.... this situation is driving me crazy, I have no single idea how to return the vac, it seems to me that it’s impossible💪👍👏👏👏 btw I live in Russia and there are huge problems with Kirby distributors in our country, they aggressively force people to buy vacuums, old and poor people mostly, they lie to them to impose credits that those helpless people can’t afford to pay for, I think it might be even illegal but no one from law enforcements in our country is interested in their activity. and I’m very curious are official representatives from the USA head office of Kirby aware of this horrible mess with their product in Russia? anyway, maybe someone has ever been in the same situation or knows what I can do to solve this problem with my grandmother, please help me with an advice maybe, I would really appreciate it because I’m shocked and terrified to death... ;(

They promise "$500 a week" but you only get your $500 if you complete 15 demos a week (which never happens lol. they don't have enough appointments to go around) and $100 for every sale on top of that (if paid in cash or good credit). My first paycheck was $200 for my two sales. No compensation for the 10 demos that I completed. I worked way over 40 hours that week. My second paycheck was only $100 for one sale. Again, I worked way over 40 hours that week. I'm working 12 hour days. This week I haven't gotten a sale and I'm already over 40 hours. I won't get paid anything LMAO. $0 paycheck. Kirby is probably the best vaccums to ever be made but there sale techniques are extremely dated its not the 1960s anymore where door to door sales are charming and interesting anymore personally think Kirby should at the very least start online sales from thier websites rather then rely on shotty third party dealers Kirby's deserve better than being sold by some creep or broke college student

Oh I know what you mean. Over a month ago we had a visit from a Kirby Sales person and they just barged uninvited in to our house and started to move furniture like he owned the place. If I had known that he just barged in I would have called the cops and had him arrested for trespassing and breaking and entering. My dad got real pissed with the guy and sacred him off telling him to get out of our house. I agree that this isn't the 1960s 70s, 80s or even the early 1990s and Kirby needs to modernize how they sell their Vacuums. The last time we had a Kirby salesperson at our door the Kirby Heritage II was current model of Kirby vacuum that they sold. They wanted $980 bucks for the damn thing. And the Kirby heritage II was around the same price over $900.

@markjastrzebski2065

@@chadsoard500 Because the company executives are former salesmen . Since they benefited from the pyramid, they want to keep the system in place. I worked at the corporate headquarters when the internet was just starting to catch on (late 90s). A e-commerce site was built to sell vacuums and parts on-line. It wasn't released because the old school salespeople were against it. The company then had a team that would do nothing but search ebay all day long to find kirby stuff and try to pull the auctions down.
