The Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), a species of monitor lizard, as seen on the islands of Komodo and Rinca, just to the west of Flores. It is the largest extant species of lizard, and grow to a maximum length of 3 metres, weighing up to around 70 kilograms. They are carnivores and may even try to eat their own young, who will live in a tree until large enough, that way safe from the adults. They do stalk the resident Rusa deer.
