did u try it on bananas? or what about green apples..with that kinda tart bite that red apples lack? does it take away the bite & make them just sweet ~ like red ones? what about spinach or cucumber? or olives? any diff to savoury foods like those? and how about carrots? do they taste sweet sweet or just extra carroty? and hey what about those dragonfruit that look SO PRETTY but taste like nothing? would love to try it on those! sounds so much fun guys!
I don't understand all the negative comments. If you want to try it, do so. If you are skeptical , don't. It's as simple as that. No one is forcing miracle fruit on you. Knocks, you guys are amazing. I found this very interesting and I love learning new things. Thanks! ❤️
Many years ago, I ate the fresh berry that is the source of these tablets. My Dad had come across it and was thinking of growing them in Australia. It was an amazing experience. It made eating a lemon like eating a fantastic lemon pudding. I loved it and kept thinking this is going to be a huge hit. Then I ate some vegemite after that and vegemite is definitely not meant to be sweet. That was a bit off-putting. The effect lasted a couple of hours so it meant that you did not want to eat salty or sour foods after eating it. It certainly got me over sugar cravings and I have always wondered if anybody ever marketed this. Glad to see this on this show. Thanks Ray, Brian and Jessica for this episode.
I enjoyed this fascinating experiment very much! Here’s a nerdy little fact I learned a while ago: grapefruits available today have actually been bred to be much sweeter and less bitter than they were 20 years ago. In fact bitter tastes in general are disappearing from our fruits and vegetables because people prefer much sweeter tastes than they used to.
I was in the middle of buying it when u mentioned that there's links in your blog post, whew so I was able to buy it through your link and hopefully get you guys a few pennies :). Looking forward to doing a night of fruit with my kids
Are yall still in Huntsville? Been a long time fan and was so excited to see yall visit my favorite place! Also glad to discover Roy. Yall are inspiring!!
I avoid a lot of fruits because I hate that sour taste. You never know what some fruit will taste like until you bite into it. I am really excited to try this. If this works as well as you guys say, it will open up so many fruit options for me..
I recommend to everyone who has some outdoor space to grow your own fruit. The reason fruit from the supermarket tastes “meh” is because it’s picked before it’s ripe, and the varieties grown commercially are developed to last on the shelf, not to taste good. A homegrown strawberry ripe off the plant and warm from the sun is one of the sweetest, most amazing things you’ll ever taste. A homegrown pineapple (I grow them in pots in NJ) is sweet like candy, not acidic and tongue-burning. Blueberries, when really ripe, are sweet, not tart. I know not everyone can grow their own food, which is too bad. It’s such a shame that our food system is so crummy that you have to do scientific experiments to make naturally sweet fruits taste better. :(
Excellent point! I'm not a gardener by any means, but I really look forward to the day when I can grow stuff in a garden. 😀 Also, it has been proven that the nutritional value is higher when just picked. 😀
Ya, I have a plum tree in my front yard and get 100-200lbs of plums all at once at the end of July. There are only so many plums my partner and I can eat. We also grow concord grapes, which are really delicious, but again the crop ripens all at once. There is only so much you can grow yourself, and I can’t grow pineapple, mangoes, or watermelon, or the dozens of other types of fruit I love. I live in Vancouver Canada, and find the seasonal fruit available in stores is really quite good.
I want to try a tablet then drink black coffee. Curious if it would eliminate the bitterness. My husband only drinks his black and I can't handle it. I have to put soy milk and liquid stevia in it. I so want to try these tablets!!! 👍👍
Why have we never heard of this?!?! Is there a down side to doing this, is it bad for you? I'm very intreged! Is one brand better than another? So many questions.
This was a fascinating experiment. Sour is one of the flavors I love best. (Sweet is the other one.) But I’d love to try it sometime. I love Jessica joking about taking tablets that Cray Ray is handing out. Hahaha.
I wonder if this is something that would be helpful for senior citizens and cancer patients? I wonder if this would help with their appetite. Of course, they would have to consult with their physician. Interesting.
I agree with you @KCallaAK. God gave us the different receptors for our own protection, just like a hot/ cold sensor. I don't like the idea of deliberately tricking my body to not function as it's supposed to.
Contrarian: I prefer to eat real fruit in season, so it’s at its peak. I don’t like supermarket fruit since it is bland-,grown for storage. I’m skeptical of a magic pill that makes bad food taste good.
It isn’t “bad” food. It’s just picked before being fully ripe before transporting. If you’re craving something sweet, this is much better than caving into chocolate, cookies, or cake.
Well I do know this fact to be true. Pesticides is what makes fruit sour. Also of course picking at the wrong time. Which they do all the time obviously. One time I had some organic or grapefruit brought up from Florida. It had been picked a couple days earlier. I can’t even tell you. No need for any sweetener on it. I have wanted to buy one of these plants for a long time. It was really nice hearing Ray break down what it is how it works. Because I’ve been kind of leery of the plant??? But I think I’m going to order one now!!!
Yes, we had quarantined for weeks before we went down and we quarantined after we got back. We made sure that the only people we were putting at risk were ourselves. And outside of Ray, we stayed away from people, wore masks, and cleaned our hands as much as possible.
Sorry, can't get passed peeps reaching in with their FINGERS, putting food in their mouth, and then reaching back in. BIG FAT THUMBS DOWN! I would have put out forks...but that's just me! Brian's even licking his fingers and then going in for more. YUCK!
Ray is right there, he is aware of how the Krocks are eating. If he has problem with Brian licking his fingers, he doesn't have to take any thing from the plate. They aren't hiding anything!
Thank you for commenting! 😀 Miracle Fruit is actually a fruit. It comes from West Africa and is grown throughout many regions in the world. The pills we had were just a powdered version of the fruit. 😀 The cool thing about miracle fruit is that it doesn't actually add anything to the fruit. It just blocks your taste receptors from tasting sour flavors so you taste more of the natural sweetness in the fruits. 😀
Sorry if we made it seem that way Jessi! This is by no means meant to be a commercial... it was just supposed to be a goofy experiment. We always include links on the blog posts to products we use in each video in case people want to try them out too. Since we get a small commission from Amazon links, it’s a small way to help support the channel so we can keep making content to share, but we are very careful to let it be the viewers choice if they want to click. That is why you’ll notice I actually like to link to the products in the blog posts instead of directly on here, because I can present them in a way that better explains that on the blog. We put a lot of thought into everything we do and we do appreciate the feedback ❤️
