IU's lyrics are meant to not make sense. If you think about what he explains at the end about when he wrote this song and why it makes complete sense. It was during covid when he thought he lost everything. A time when for everyone nothing made sense. We all thought we had all the time in the world and then we had no idea who had how much time. It was a scary and confusing time and I think her lyrics fit it perfectly. I hope I made sense LMAO 💜
For me, I really took to heart what Suga said at the end. This song was written during Covid19 when he thought he had lost everything. If you know anything about BTS it's that they plan so much so far in advance. They are always two or three steps ahead and everything ties together. Then boom, the pandemic hits. They have to cancel the world tour, and nobody knows anymore. Everything is different now. You're ready to go but you can't- nobody could- we were in lock down mode- not traveling. All those plans are gone even the thought of them is far away. As Army we felt so far away. All of a sudden, we have all this time to stop and think-reflect on life- reflect on our loved ones. They had been going, going, going for so long and everything changed. People changed and maybe he thought as he was home with no place to go- what do you write about when you have time to create music you're not sure when you'll get to share. When music is your love, but all the plans changed, and everything feels so far away. What am I if I'm not making music. I said I was making it for you but selfishly it was for me. What's left to love about me? Am I worthy to be loved? What do I have to offer if not my music? I'm giving myself permission to cry because I'm worthy of love- we all are. It's very introspective and from the titles of some of the other tracks- I think there is a lot deeper thinking he did when he was right there ready to go ... but nobody knew when we would be able to go again. Anyways, that's my two cents. I enjoy your reactions PD. I found your channel about a year ago, and there was something so smooth and calming about your reactions. for iu's part, there's been quite a lot of different interpretations going around because the meaning of those few lines changes so much depending on where you break the phrases. the simplest & most effective one (that i prescribe to now) is the following: *so time is yet* [read: still] *now* - [time is still doing its thing, being the present- despite covid & the entire world changing] *right here to go* - [it's ready to go despite yoongi not feeling ready for it to pass] *i know you know* *anything does know* *nobody doesn't know anymore* - [a lovely use of a double negative that gives much more of an impact than its more simply-phrased meaning: 'everyone knows']
I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by IU's lyrics! I tried to figure it out, and my best guess at the meaning is something along the lines of "from now going forward, we know what is going to happen, from now going forward, we won't understand anything" This makes some sense in the context of realizing a relationship is over, but also in the context of COVID-19. Yoongi blows me away every single time. He is definitely a musical genius imo. He could write a song about a hair follicle and somehow make it deep, meaningful, and beautiful.

Thank goodness! I finally found one reactor that mentions the weird grammar in the chorus hahaha I was also so frustrated the first time I heard the song because I couldn't understand what he meant. Once he said he wrote this during Covid, I figured out what other people has said here on the comments about not knowing what to do with so much time in your hands and not knowing what the future could hold. I think he just phrased it like that so that the syllables could fit.
I felt the same about the IU part the first times I listened to it, I didn't quite understand the sentence structure so it was very confusing hahaha. But right now, giving the overall storyline of the song, I think it simply means how time just goes by and we think we have everything figured out but at the end we don't know anything really. Yoongi's work means a lot to me because just like PD, I feel a sense of understanding every time Yoongi realeases a song or just simply talks, I feel like he has a way of putting into words certain feelings I can't explain myself, so this song wasn't any different than that. It just simply makes you think and feel. I found Blaire's first listening reaction so endearing, she looked like the song really hit her feelings. Wish you both the best.
This song has really touched me and I agree with you when you said "I don't know if it hurt me but it pierced my soul." That sums up how I feel. This song found me when I needed it. The way he is being introspective, it's hard for me to explain in words how much it made me reflect. The more I reflect on what IU'S lyrics meant the more it made sense to me actually. If you listen to her tone (probably helped that I watched IU's Pallete with him as a guest where I can see facial expressions), she sounds as though she is lost, confused, and clinging to hope. Her tone is light and airy like your subconscious trying to organize your thoughts. That's what it sounded like to me. I can't wait for his album. I need to physically have it in my hands.
This is such a beautiful song. I love this feeling from Agust D/SUGA/Yoongi... mature, sad, but philosophical. If you watch contents from this year when he's just chatting (like Suchwita), he's not the angry young man he was in the beginning. His old soul is older and wiser than ever. The one line in the spinning storm of IU's lyrics that sticks out to me is, "Nobody doesn't know anymore." He was talking about his feeling of having lost everything because of COVID, and this one line feels to me like he's saying, "It's not just me who's sad, angry, confused, mourning...everyone in the world has felt this now."
I've always felt that Yoongi's lyricism comes across as a friend sitting down and just telling you about their day. It's very casual and just...human. Like nothing sugar-coated or overly complex, a regular conversation you would have with someone close. And I think that's what hits so hard about this song. He's telling you about his days during covid like a friend confiding in you.

My intrepretation of IU's lyrics is that the correct wording would be as a question, like "is now the time to go yet? Nobody knows" and I think you're right in thinking they're complicated on purpose! Especially the part w the play on anybody does know / nobody doesn't know anymore is interesting, it's like they're making it more ambiguous w the double negative. Like the idea of the relationship ending is something that both people feel is happening but they're circling around it in their mind and words bc of denial and fear of loneliness

This song is an instant IT for me when I first listened, his "softer" music are always something close to my heart. I love all these discussions of PD on all BTS videos nowadays, it's so in-depth and emotional but very technical in a way I don't feel on a lot of reactors I watch. I think since this is a pre-album release, this song is one side of what he will give us, comforting and soothing to the soul. I get what you mean. I think the English lyrics in IU's part doesnt make sense too. His Korean lyrics were fire and poetic. And the melody is catchy. I still like the song but it's just my opinion - no hate - I wish they checked the English lyrics. He said in the IU Palette interview that he wrote the English lyrics to make it easy to sing along. So when it comes to the chorus, there is the (very likely) assumption that the lyrics are purposefully ambiguous and oddly arranged - just like how life was - especially for him during the pandemic. However, those particular words were still chosen, so I still tried to make some sense of it. I've seen some other interpretations too, so take this with a teaspoon of salt. I think of these lines as additive statements about time: So time is yet now -- it's simultaneously the future and present / possible reference to 'Yet To Come'? [time is] right here -- it's at our disposal to use / may be implying something like 'so what are we doing?' [time is] to go -- it passes / possible play on words with 'to go' implying we're not stopping to enjoy the moment. I know -- I understand all this. you know -- and so do you. anything does know -- may point to how time affects all things / erosion would thematically fit with the mention of sandcastles and the sea. Nobody doesn't know anymore -- May be referencing the loss of childhood / pressure and the value of time is becoming noticeably greater. I think the whole thing could be kind of summed up with the recognition that at some point we weren't acutely aware of time's constant approach and passing, but we are now, and we're not sure how we feel about it. That itself is a very ambiguous and odd feeling to have, let alone considering how it impacts our relationships with other people. Listening to this song has made me want to reach out to old friends, tell my family what they mean to me and figure out how I feel about myself. Let's just say that Yoongi has mastered the art of distilling the human experience into a perfectly bittersweet tonic - and we're always left wanting more.

"I know, you know, anything does know" Its not everyone cause it encompasses all things that moved into a sphere of weirdness during the pandemic driven time perception. Signification all living, non-living entities, anything and everything. "Nobody doesn't know anymore" Basic English literature phrasing method where placing several negatives next to each other, which negate each other till we end up with no meaning. Which is what happened to many during the pandemic. The pandemic took away things from our lives, all the loss and the negation of normal pursuits. These negations as we heard you can't do this, you can't do that, stay away from this, stay away from that, etc.... rules and regulations of the lockdowns spiralled more and more till life became meaningless. In the end thou some came away stronger in relying on their own self instead others. Sad truth that has its awakening call to finding oneself. I lost many (became a widow during this time) along with acquiring autoimmune disorder. I survived to face life alone in most ways. Had to let go & accept that can only have others now in my home if they are well. Living within walls of my home with net to reach out to others, listen to music or read digital books. Life is different. But in a way more self efficient. This song I find beautifully sad but fulfilling in its full message. Blessings to Suga for this masterpiece. Always enjoy your reaction videos. suga's album is a bit more like RM's, where it's more of his thought trajectory through the years from the last album, and not Jimin's, whose was more of just the covid time and what he went through
I feel like Suga was channeling Ddaeng with his hook. But after listening to it, a dozen more times, I think the chorus is meant to be a little confusing, just like the time of the pandemic. Where are the commas/time to pause supposed to be? Can't be completely certain but you can make sense of it for yourself.

I like the song, but I'm not sure I vibe with the English chorus. It's just always a turnoff when it's grammatically incorrect, since it would've been so easy to fix (mind you, English is not my first language either). Perhaps the lyrics make sense in Korean, but when translated they turned out like this. I can't really get behind everyone who's trying to explain this for Suga by breaking and bending it until it makes sense. Cause surely he would've talked about it if the lyrics were meant to be nonsensical?? I think it's just a 'mistake' if you could call it that. It really happens soooo often in kpop so I don't see how it wouldn't be the case here
If Suga's intent was to make nonsensical lyrics he would have explained that already, he has talked about this song enough and could have said that the gibberish was by design, but since he has not, I will assume Suga actually thought it made sense, maybe it was his failed attempt to google translate what he meant in Korean.
