The Kulture Study: Pink Fantasy 'Poison' MV REACTION & REVIEW 

Fun fact: Their CEO and member Daewang (girl in the rabbit mask) both share a love for j-rock music so it makes so much sense they are taking this artistic direction now.

I feel like Pink fantasy is very j-rock or j-metal. Many people compare them to Dreamcatcher but it feels very different. The chorus for poison and fantasy feel very... Electrical? Not like a live band. And they sing the chorus together in a very chantey way which is also something Dreamcatcher don't do. They're both absolutely awesome and some of my fav groups but different!

Between stuff like this, Dreamcatcher, and Rolling Quartz, I have never been happier to be both a metalhead and a K-pop fan.

The producers working on the MV was Zanybros. They never disappoint.

Sadly it's true that despite their best efforts their previous releases have gone a little under the radar, so I can't blame you for missing them. If you liked this I know you're going to like Fantasy, so check it out!! (I don't mean react to it here in the channel just check it out if you want).

i looked into the group and i guess there company (mydoll) is pretty good. so it was started by an ex-idol (lee sohee) who was in bad companies i guess made it her mission to make a company who gives idols who were failed by their companies a second chance (kind of like cube). they've had several member changes already, because people requested to leave and requested contract terminations for personal reasons, and the company didn't fight them on it. and i guess pretty much all of them were scouted because they had debuted prior to joining the company. i believe the one with the short black hair was the one who failed previously as an idol and ended up working in a bookstore, but the ceo was so moved by her voice that she sought her out to sign her. i think there's only one or two members who auditioned for the company. from what little i know, it seems like a fairly genuine pursuit of a woman who was failed but came across the means to start a company and really wanted to help other women from similar situations.

As an insomnia, I LOVE THIS! Some people compare them to Dreamcatcher but i think they have this sound that gives more “fantasy” vibes while DC have that more scary and eerie vibes to their old songs also Pink Fantasy’s music also gives me weird nostalgia and like i’ve heard it before but even tho i did not lolz

Pink Fantasy have some of the most talented women in the industry right now. SeeA and Yechan (blonde and short black) are incredible vocalists, and Arang (black/blonde) is growing leaps and bounds as a dancer in the covers she posts. Yechan has a YT channel for covers that is highly worth checking out. I VERY VERY highly recommend her cover of Loona's So What. It is an absolutely gorgeous and refreshing version of the song, and it lets her voice shine.

also as far as cOmpanies go mydoll is actually like Rly Decent in their treatment of PF, at least from what they make public. like the group has gone through SO many lineup changes and it’s bad for the group and releases and the company but it’s always for the former members health , AND one member literally just had personal differences and was allowed to terminate her contract w/o any apparent backlash. This seems to be bc the company CEO is a former idol I forget the name of, but she was determined to basically give female idols second chances after rejection and mistreatment from other labels, and she’s apparently close friends with all of the members. Now I don’t rly believe that u can just have a friendship between a boss and their employees but as far as we can tell she does treat them with grace that comes at clear costs to the company, but makes the reputation solid and keeps a non-antagonistic relationship between the idols and the company!!!!!!!

I've been following them from "Fantasy" and this CB blew my mind like they legit went J-rock. Many compared this with Dreamcatcher but DC as you said have Rock and Metal inspired music which is lighter than this so, these groups and songs sounds really different Edit: I'm not comparing Japanese releses

Isn't their company the one with the woman CEO that takes in older idols from failed groups? I will never stan a company but I think theirs is one of the better companies for treating their idols. Also these girls did so well and deserve more views so thanks for the reaction!!!

Sadly their is not much to their EP. The title track, two instrumentals and their first two title tracks remade. Those two are still really worth listening to

what i love about this song, as a metal/screaming fan,, it has the exact sound that is unique to metal in 2021 and its so good i love it

Pink Fantasy have been interspersing their full group comebacks with units, which really lets them show their versatility. I like this dark/rock side but also their bright-but-slightly-freaky stuff. They're super unique!

PD Pretty sure one of the reasons the video doesn't feel empty is because they used the girls appropriately. They fill the space well enough with how it was shot. I think they also knew that because when it would look empty, that's when they added like a second person or that dead tree looking thing. It's just speaks to how well the video was filmed.

I know it's probably too late to check out, but I STRONGLY suggest you check out Shadow Play - Pink Fantasy. It's just an amazing song, and portrays PF's actual concept better, while giving the members an actual fair line distribution.

This comeback is awesome. I was sad that they dissappeared after fantasy but now they're back and it's a whole bop! (I missed their other stuff as well, being a multifandom is so stressful💀)

pink fantasy is a very interesting group to stan... from frequent member changes (almost half the members in posion weren't in fantasy) to many sub-units with different music identities (from iriwa/shadow play to shy/lemon candy and then fantasy/posion) and not to mention daewang... what keeps me interested in them is the girls themselves and how talented and devoted to each project they are. let's hope more people notice them!

I found this gem of a song a week ago and I'm still picking my jaw up from the floor. Wasn't expecting a Korean girl group to go full metal! I bought this Mini album the next day. Shadow Play was interesting but Poison is all sorts of great for me.

So... My name is Jace and I have a lot to say!! Firstly, PLEASE check out their song Shadow Play. They promoted it under the PinkFantasy name, but it's actually a unit track (the unofficial name is PinkFantasy Shadow). It's so good!! I'd been kinda/sorta checking out PinkFantasy since they debuted, but nothing got me invested in them quite like that song. Especially SeeA. That girl is the god's honest truth. Not only is she ridiculously talented, but her stage presence and charisma are off the charts. I rly like this song. I haven't been the biggest fan of PinkFantasy's material over the years, but they've always given me something. Even if it's just a lil bit. It's still something. But Poison?! Baby, this is a whole lot more than something. This is Everything^TM. I've seen some folks in the comments kind of denouncing any Dreamcatcher comparisons (which I totally understand), but I don't rly agree. This song is v comparable to Dreamcatcher, but it doesn't make me want to go listen to a Dreamcatcher song; it makes me want more of this from PinkFantasy. Which tells me that the girls did enough to differentiate themselves; the instrumental and vibe of the song is v comparable to something we'd get from Dreamcatcher, but PinkFantasy brought a different type of energy to the table. I think K-Pop fans these days bristle at comparisons, because they feel like someone slighting their fave. Like, I remember saying that NCT is an expanded/augmented version of EXO, and NCTzen came for my ass. But I'm right. NCT, minus the member additions, is what EXO would have evolved into if three of the twelve members hadn't told SM to fuck off. And I can say that with surety, because Super Junior (the mother of the oversized group concept) has five million and one sub-units. But here's the thing - I got to NCT for different things than I got to EXO for. Sure, there's a whole lot of crossover (SM has been remaking the same three groups for the past twenty years; we just haven't noticed or cared, because each iteration is distinct from its predecessor), but there's also a whole lot that's different. Same thing with this iteration of PinkFantasy and Dreamcatcher; there's a whole lot of crossover, but there's the elements that are different. For example, Dreamcatcher's music has skewed more pop over the years, as a consequence of them experimenting with electronic elements and hip hop sensibilities; Poison has pop elements (it is a K-Pop song), but the song is v anchored in that harder rock/metal sound that Dreamcatcher had for Catch Me and Baby Goodnight. Actually, something that y'all may not have noticed is that the first half of the chorus is a circle of fifths progression; the same progression as the chorus of Dreamcatcher's Baby Goodnight. Another difference is the drum track; the drum samples used in Poison are a lot heavier and have more impact than the drum samples used in any of Dreamcatcher's songs. Like, the kick that's used here is something that you're more likely to hear in an EDM song. And let's not forget the screamo elements. Dreamcatcher are hardcore, but they're not that hardcore. So yeah, I do think Poison is comparable to a Dreamcatcher song. But that's not a bad thing. In fact, if MyDoll played their cards right, this sound and style could get them a whole lot of attention. Let's hope they stick with it.

I’m so glad that you finally reacted to them. This song is amazing and they improved so much. I mean I have never seen Arang dance like this as a main dancer. They showcased a lot of their abilities in this song. Also, most of them are idols before they join the group as second chance and their CEO is also an ex-idol. So yeah, they’ve been on this journey long enough and good enough to be recognized.

I didn't know this group, but one of the main singer (girl with short hair) is doing very beautiful covers of Monsta X last songs... It's always so interesting to listen to your comments on the mv, i can focus and see the details and understand how it was done... i may keep an eye on Pink fantasy, it's interesting ! ;)

Structure wise it sounds like "Fantasy" but a little more hardcore. This is there sound, not that sweet stuff they sing. They should concentrate in this genre. They have great vocals.

I think the song you refer to as their debut throughout the video is their first comeback, "Fantasy"! It's the one you reviewed before on the show :) Their actual debut was "Iriwa" in 2018! It's even more rough production-wise (btw Shindong from SuJu directed it lol), but has a lot of charm imo. They've had a unit comeback last year in "Shadow Play" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P6DnkkeXJw0.html) with the same MV production team as this one (ZanyBros) but even less budget lol. And also "Lemon Candy" but we don't talk about that one. Anyway, glad you enjoyed this, thank you for making the video and for bringing more attention to the girls!

The key thing with Pink Fantasy is not just they had just single albums or digital singles, but also kind of usual thing for small companies/their not well known groups that their members has changed a lot and the company made many subgroups of this group, which made it even more confusing like who is where and these things… BUT they also made a subgroup, which promoted under the full group name to gain more attention, which could be completely confusing for someone trying to get into this group and not following every step since debut or even predebut… Also from what I remember with last comeback Lemon Candy, they used some trainees as “guests” with one former member too, who came back to the group with Poison I both or at least one of the “guests” got added to the group now as well? It’s so confusing and the only thing I wanted to know at first, when I paid my attention for them, was when the masked/hidden member will take off the mask and what’s the point 😅😅

I think this release is very different from a lot and takes a direction that I think is very unique to kpop. It has that metal and screamo element while still having almost a light sound that doesn't 100% stray away from Kpop. I know Daewang and their CEO love Jrock but I feel this doesn't fit the traditional Jrock, at least from what I personally listen to. I love how balanced the chorus is and although the talk parts are a bit quiet, Momoka and Miku's (?) nasally voice just fits very well. Visually I found that it kind of crosses with the darkly-inclined nature of dreamcatcher and that elegant yet strong feel that G-idle have, especially with SeeA in that purple dress and that member in white with the tree. I also love the SFX looks in the blue set, which I think ATEEZ has employed recently? I also love that red set with the skulls, very gothic-inspired. I do think ZanyBros did a fantastic job but I think it could have gone a step farther as you said. With the lineup changes, I do find myself more inclined to stan them because MyDoll prioritizes idol's health, especially given their backgrounds. I also really appreciated the concept of guest members and that led to Momoka and Miku joining with Heesun returning permanently for the foreseeable future. I think it turns people off but I think it already is preventing the disaster that was After School with lineups.

in their secound song 'Fantasy' Yechan shows her vocals better. Because the high note is higher ^^ Still this high note and the harmony of Yechan (dark short hair) an SeeA (blond) is amazing and everyone can tell. I really like that they took the risk and brought metal to the kpop scene. I grew up with Linkinpark, Papa roach, P.O.D and others in the radio. It's time kids these days get a little more rock in mainstream music.

What a gorgeous song

This is an actual metal song. This is not just a bunch of metal elements thrown into a kpop song, this is a Kpop band performing a metal song. That's amazing. I mean, that main riff is straight up a 90's groove riff, even in the way the guitar is produced. My main complain is that the mix gets pretty muddy by the end, to much stuff going on (ad libs, guitar solo, double bass, etc.). You need to clean up the mix a bit if you're gonna put a solo in there. So I 100% agree with you on that.

The girls can sing (and yes it's an understatement at this point)... the guitar solo at the end needed to be LOUD! and LOUDER!!!
