If you didn’t know - when Changbin originally created this song it wasn’t going to be a title track, in fact they had a totally different song picked out for it, yet when he showed it to the other members they all insisted that it became the title track. And JYP actually agreed to change it. Just goes to show the absolute trust JYP has in Stray Kids.
the whole mv felt like i was watching a movie even the song sounds like a movie sound track, i'm happy jyp finally used their pocket money to give skz a insane mv DU DU DU DU
키미 what ICY looking cheap? 😅 never. I think all of their videos have great production.. what I think I could call cheap is when their is mostly only one scenery used like a bedroom or smth.. for an example sting by stellar or butterfly by wjsn
키미 I don’t know if you know this but Straykids have an mv for almost all their bside tracks and therefore, I feel JYPE is quite lavash when it comes to straykids for which I am very thankful .
Normally I’d ask for theories but I’m eye deep in EXO and how they relate to SuperM theory and I don’t know if I could handle but I want to try to handle it 😭😭😭.
If you're interested in knowing, the mv director for God's Menu is Bang Jaeyeob!! I believe this is the first time that he directed a Stray Kids MV but he did SUCH an amazing job that I wish he would direct more Stray Kids mvs in the future!
8:26 "Oh my god oh my god..." *rewinds* "Oh my gawd oH mAh gAwD OH MAH GAWD" *rewinds* "OH mY GAwDDDD" lmao never seen someone playback so many times lol
I literally had a mental breakdown with the DU DU DU DU part too..I’m not part of them fandom but I do really like some of their songs like mirroh and side effects. This comeback is really my jammm
I love when pd gets their mind blown. Pd is one of the reactors that I like because it takes alot to really impress them, and is super genuine about it. edited: adjusted the pronouns. I was not aware, so thank you for letting me know.
Agreed! Im a baby stay of like a week and changbin really made me decide to stan. Already had to double bias! Changbin and Minho. Although Hyunjin has really got to me...
An interesting thing about the pits crew girls: They’re part of Nizi Project, the last japanese survival show by JYP. You can see 6 of them (Miihi, Rio, Mako, Rima, Maya and Ayaka) without helmets, then the other 6 are in overalls. We don’t know the reason why some faces are visibles and some not, but sure it’s an interesting cameo by the trainees, just like some of the members of TWICE did in the past.
13 girls actually. One of the girls is kinda not visible but I think she's there. The winning team for one of missions on Nizi were able to film w/o helmets while the other 2 teams that lost had to, so that's why they have different outfits :)
Here's another fun fact: That car is the exact same model as the car in the My Pace video...!! It's a shared-production model between Subaru and Toyota; the Subaru model is named the BRZ, and the Toyota model is now called the GT86(formerly the Scion FRS, before Toyota's subsidiary company Scion was shut down and the model was reabsorbed into the main Toyota line.) We love continuity.
I think the scene of the spotlight mimics the way they as chefs look at the reactions of the customers In a way it represents god waching over their creations or like artist watch people's reactions. But there's the nuance of "i got the power to make you feel exactly what i wanted" thats the same reason why the tracklist has emotions as ingredients. JYPE and SKZ freaking OUTSOLD with this concept.
They mentioned in the intro video thingy that this was originally a b-side and they made it the title later in the process. I feel like Easy was probably the original title track (if they still included the OG title) which has a lot more Minho in it. I think it was the right choice to go with this as the title, but if it had been the title from the beginning they probably would've paid more attention to distribution. Still weird how little he's in it though.
i feel like the spotlight scene relates to the next scene where they pan out from Hyunjin's hand. As if Hyunjin (who could be representing "god") is looking through his hand/ creating a telescope effect on Stray Kids, almost insinuating that the group has been created by God and each member is a perfect recipe that makes up God's menu, ie as a group they are perfect together and compliment each other. Just like the lyrics say "no one can copy us, our own game, from the start it's all ours".
10:24 I have a little theory about this scene. I'm new to Stray Kids, so i watched some interviews and stuff to know the members better. After that, i re-watch the video and came to the conclusion that the scene is a statement, like a editor's note in a newspaper. Bang Chan, as leader and composer of the group, is under the spolight, catching the attention with the odd lighting. Basically he is telling us his creative process, he talks about emptying his head, his "idea bank", without thinking to much about what the critics might say. This transitions perfectly to Hyunjin's line which closes this idea telling that there isn't a secret ingredient, they are just that good. Or maybe i'm just rumblin nonsense, but knowing that Stray Kids have such creative control of their music made me realize that.
7:36 I just noticed in this transition, the pan lids are going up and when they go down there's a sound in the instrumental of the song that is kinda reminiscent of the sound that it would make in real life
I can't imagine how many stays this song brought. I myself became a stay through this by replaying it everyday like a ritual. I used to think stray kids are bunch of orphans who came together to make this band T_T
uggh i will never get tired of seeing people react to god's menu for the first time.. i can rewatch these reactions over and over. i wish i could go back in time, experience it for the first time again.
@xxSkyLoverxxHolla the ones in uniforms are all Japanese. MiiHi, Rio, Mako, Rima, Maya and Ayaka from left to right and I do think the one in orange are NIZI girls too. I mean you can see their long hair in some scenes
do you think that could possibly be the reason why they're wearing those uniforms? like i was so confused as to why half of their pit crew is wearing like school girl uniforms....
one of the mv reactors, an mv director for various western mvs (i forgot the name lol sorry just saw it earlier), explained it that way. if you read the subs for that part, that's literally what it says. lol so, they're spying for secret ingredients and hyunjin showed there's really nothing. genius.
This album literally just slapped I am Who and said “I’m the best title track and album now.” If you end up listening to it be aware that this is 100% Jeongin’s era and every single song is so addicting.
I fell in love with "God Menu" right away. Damn, the song, the video *chef's kiss*. Seeing all the cool transitions instantly made me think, "PD's going to love this!" Glad to see you did. :)
Honestly i'm not a stay . I've never heard their songs before bcoz i thought it was too loud for me .but I heard great reviews for this song and I decided to check it out.the mv really pulled me in.the transitions were so amazing especially Han's first transition.the chorus was just mind blowing.this is probably one of the best MV's I've seen.the choreo ,their energies ,the song and the transition just killed it.i'm obsessed with this song now and Its been on my repeat for three weeks now and I still can't get over this
Their movements are so interesting....like they almost look like they're CG at some points with the way they move? Like at the part in the second pre-chorus where it looked blue-screened. It's fascinating, the movement in this music video is SO fascinating. Also the dipping camera with Felix's verse for the bridge, I could Kiss the cinematographer.
The song is so amazing! This is perhaps my favorite album of the year, where I like almost every song that is on the track list. Definitely worth the wait for this comeback
Stray Kids just really wrote a song about how they make a music they want to make, "We just keep on making new things / Because we're one of a kind / No one can copy us, our own game" ❤️
the last time i checked out a stray kids comeback was my pace (which i thought was fantastic) but this. THIS SONG. might just make me dive into their music - this is INCREDIBLEEE
8:25 when PD rewound this part a bunch of times, that was a mood seriously the mv editing is SO dynamic. i just love this style on skz so much. the editing/concept/lyrics. a little bit weird and very aggressive. it really does set them apart
omg just noticing it this late but notice how the editing follows the beats so well that not only do they flip/transition between a lot of scenes for quick beat switches like the 'du du du du' part, but for the singing part (like bang chan's lines in the first pre chorus) are more classical/cinematic fluid takes. holy shit what a genius director
Sooo, I thought someone would be interested (including PD): the director of the mv is Bang Jaeyeob (ig/vimeo: bangjaeyeob), the mv was shot by Jeonghyun Yim (ig: jeonghyunyim) from Axsix (which is a visual engineering group). The two worked on a lot of other masterpieces like: Simon Dominic - ya ain't gang Yang DaIl - understand Code Kunst - KnoCK (Feat. Baek Yerin) Hyuk - Winter butterfly Crush - 'Butterfly' & 'Sunset' Live Film And also Bang Jaeyeob directed: Way V - Dream Launch Omega Sapien - Pop the tag Hoody - Good and evil Samuel Seo - Jungle riot EXO SC - Closer to you Kid Milli - Why do fuckbois hang out on the net, APP n many more. While Jeonghyun Yim worked on: Crush - Nappa Zico - Any song Cheeze - Today's mood n many more. and also! Axsix is the company that worked on EXO's Obession mv (in this case executive producer was VM Project Architecture and directed by paranoid paradigm).
I hope you do a listening party for the album! It's absolutely amazing. Also, I forgot to comment before, but I BEG that you do a listening party for WayV's first full album, Awaken the World. I think there are a lot of interesting and very distinct songs on there and I'd love to hear your opinion of them. No pressure though, do what you wanna do, and if WayV doesn't really spark your interest then that's fine :)
To think that Kpop has a specific style of visuals or sound is greatly underestimating the speed at which kpop evolves and incorporates/creates new things. Trying to create a classification around kpop is more a reflection of the limitation of the people who don't understand it and try to put it around their boundaries.
My take on with the spotlight scene is that the circular shape of the spotlight, transitions well into the circular hand gesture because they were building up to really emphasize the point of them not needing any secret ingredients.
Never in my life had i been this hooked to an mv with a bunch of boys i've never heard of. I watched God's Menu because I wanted to see Hyunjin in his real group after watching 00s doing a cover of Psycho. Since Hyunjin is the only one i know in Stray Kids and I havent heard any of their songs yet, I didnt expect much from this mv but Whattheff was really my first reaction!! And I really do agree with you with how you laid out your thoughts, piece by piece, regarding the video. I agree in everything you've saidddd 💖
i've watched this mv multiple times now- and i keep getting shookt with the transitions and their looks im really obsessed with jisung's transition tho, liek LOOK AT HIS SMUG FACE AFTER THAT and also felix T-T changbin T-T ok im just fangirling now ok you see, i just can't get over with this comeback. I thought My pace was never gonna be topped but obviously im wrong and im glad i am.
your videos are always top tier...... literally. you take time to discuss little details and really dive into the music, the visuals and overall meaning of whatever you're reacting to... your boss level.... its over 9000
whenever pd says omg, same here pd same also thank you for dissecting this video, blow my mind on the small details and the amazing transitions like omg
10:37 i believe the motivation behind the spotlight is because it has a circle form, like the hand in the transition. If you think about it, it has light, from the spotlight, then it goes dark and finaly the camera actually comes away from the hand. If you do the same gesture and put your hands in front of it it will be all black, the more you take your hands of there will be light. So the apotlight could actualy mean he was watching them trough his hand. At least I perceived it like that.
Two things people might now have caught here: 1) The beggining rap and the ending rap are the same thing: entrance, main dish and desert. 2) the little siren on the second part after the break, that's the district 9 siren.
K guys I regularly come back to this and I just asked myself what if God's Menu never became the title track I- this Song is such an incredible masterpiece ... never have I ever felt something like this - not even in the songs from my favorite group which is not Stray Kids but someone else ... God's Menu is everything someone could look in a music video and song for and I love it with passion
before this MV, i've never seen or heard of stray kids. but when i saw this MV, man. this is easily one of the BEST KPOP MVS I HAVE EVER SEEN. and now i know them and will definitely look out for more of their work
