you are one of very few people who watched this and immediately went "oh, this is 100% yeonjun", because you know tubatu and know him from various types of content, whereas a casual txt listener could be taken aback by this choice. i can't tell you how happy it makes me to see someone so on board with everything yeonjun has decided to put into his first solo project :') a lot of opinions going around on this, so i'm glad you just get it. i've really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on ggum, you've nailed the intention and the way it fits yeonjun so much in so many ways! thank you
It’s really been surprising me when people are taken aback, ‘cause yeah if you follow TXT more closely than casually it really is just so perfectly Yeonjun!!
I’ve been seeing this as a reoccurring comment and I’m actually shocked. This whole MV is so Yeonjun coded but I guess most people don’t know the man’s personality 🤔 Shout out to TO DO TXT and Idol human theater!!
@@formoftherapy It really is _so_ Yeonjun-coded. I'm not even a big fan of the song itself, but everything about it just screams Yeonjun's color, Yeonjun's heart. I love watching him have so much fun with this.
For those who were not around back then… this is how it felt like when TAEMIN made his solo debut. Obviously not sonically, but more in the way of what they are going for with YeonJun’s solo/career.
Definitely. Those of us that have been in the scene since the 1st / 2nd gen, we can see TXT as a kind of SHINee / TVXQ revival, and Yeonjun's solo has been a long time coming.
YES!!! Finally the appreciation this song deserves. This is also probably my favorite solo debut. I kept seeing people criticizing the lack of vocals blablabla... But that's literally what i liked. A song doesn't need to have crazy vocals through the song to be good. Plus It fits the "idgaf" vibe of the song. The performance as a whole is the main attraction for me because it perfectly portrays yeonjun's personality. A 10/10.
✨YES, FINALLY!✨,Your reaction is such breath of fresh air, Because of one thing, & That is you understanding Yeonjun, So many people said things like "I didn't expect this from Yeonjun" But like you said, if anyone who has followed Him ,Tubatu, & gets His & the group's dynamic & sense of humor GGUM is something that is so Yeonjun it hurts, This song perfectly embodies His whole Aura, & The fact that you noticed & pointed that out is the realest thing ever, thank you♥
Saw a lot of people saying they expected something like taemin’s move from yeonjun but it shocks me how people don’t see that ggum is literally the definition of yeonjun!!!! Yes, yeonjun is one of the most versatile idols in the industry that’s why people expected something they have already saw him pull off perfectly but his goal with first mixtape was to show himself: his personality and what he’s got in him and ggum is so perfect for him that this song becomes literally yeonjun! from lyrics to melody to choreo it’s just so him
Regarding the split part ..Yeonjun actually performs it live every single time he is INCREDIBLE, he’s insanely talented his hard work and training period shows so muchhhh!
what i love about this song is some people love it and some people hate it but it doesn't even matter because the song is SO HIM and he knows its gonna stick in peoples heads like gum
You're so right-it's SOOO Yeonjun, and it's not playing on anything, it's so interesting! It's perfectly Yeonjun. He's unapologetically himself and I am so here for it.
Finally someone who loves this as much as me! As a street dancer the structure of this song just scratched some niche itch in me that 98% of songs never do lol. Can't wait for more from Yeonjun!
I would say, if you want a comparison more fitting in the sonic sense too, this looks like something G-DRAGON would do in the peak of BIGBANG activities. Adventurous and exciting, leaps and bounds forwards what TXT is even doing. He made a debut that shows him wholly, and this is amazing. I get why some people have ditched this song, but works like this are what makes Kpop, not something bland and conservative, but this progressive and bold pop. He really surprised me.
“It’s so Yeonjun” YES!! Yes, yes!!! That’s exactly what I think too. The style, the choreo, the energy, it’s so perfectly cultivated to Yeonjun’s strengths and his performance vibe
me too!! ppl are hating just cuz they don’t know yeonjun like others do, it’s fun and refreshing to be different and unique but when he does it it’s bad ??
@@NicoleGKurtz Idk what happened to my og comment but yes, I liked Boyfriend more indeed 😆 But the chorus on this one is starting to stick into my mind, no pun intended 😆
This is literally such an iconic era for yeonjun! It’s literally what Kpop is missing rn that creativeness and distinct sound that literally embodies YEONJUN 😭
yeonjun really is THAT guy. i really loved your reaction. as someone who knows who yeonjun is this song literally screams him and it's so freaking fun. this is what kpop needed and thank you for recognising that!
being yeonjun biased literally since predebut I’m honestly just so proud of him. From the song to the concept, it’s sooo refreshing and fun getting to see him just express and be himself here
As someone in the same boat, I didn't like the song, because it's not my genre. I prefer guitars and less techy sounds in my music. But I totally agree that the song is creative and done well as a concept (obv the dance/ performance is awesome as well). You go Yeonjun! I already look forward to what the other members will do, who's music taste is more similar to mine! I do feel like the song was a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the k-pop scene. It kinda reminds me of the kinda early BigBang/ iKON songs like fu** it and Dumb & Dumber. The confidence, the freedom.
Other people are so like: this is so far from txt vibe, it might disrupt the overall feel. but they forget that this is so fun and so yeonjun, no need to get too serious about it
THE HATE WAS SO FORCEDDDD!! the song is crazy yeah but it’s common sense since it’s his first solo debut so they need to show something “on your face” and the song is HELLA CATCHHYYYYY
for me it was the perfect time for a solo!! i mean they're a 6 year old group and talks for a yeonjun solo has been going on for a while. he delivered and DID NOT disappoint ggum is really soooo YEONJUN i'm proud of him :')
i’ve never listened to txt (embarrassingly read it as tee ex tee) but i saw a clip of this mv and was instantly hooked on the song. the attitude is so fun, it borders on absurd and there’s an almost camp element to the whole performance. i don’t really think of it as an overtly sexy concept - sure it’s provocative but it’s irreverent not erotic, although i do think it’s funny that the MV camerawork somewhat underplays the chorus hip thrust move. apart from the split, the vocals and choreo aren't designed to show off and it's his personal style that actually makes it work. the focus is on his persona, his audacity to enjoy and demand attention because he truly believes he’s That Bitch. there’s something ridiculous about this outrageous diva character peacocking around and it seems like he knows himself well enough to commit to that character unselfconsciously. obviously idk yeonjun other than this song but it seems like he doesn't have anything to prove with this debut, he’s confident that his talent will speak for itself, and he’s having a lot of fun without taking himself too seriously. maybe i’ll watch some yeonjun variety content to see if i’m completely wrong lol. regardless it’s a damn catchy song and i’ll be interested to hear the mixtape when it comes out. ps Hwasa 'O' reaction pls! 🙏there's been a lot of great mamamoo solo releases this year
I totally agree about the hip thrusting it feels more mechanical rather than sexual. Yes it's jarring but it's not trying to be seductive in an overtly sexual way, at least to me.
I love you reaction so much because you get it from the first time you watched the mv, *this* is Yeonjun. As a moa, I feel proud and happy to see you enjoying the music and his performance
This performance is rlly rlly iconic ngl edit: i agree to this being totally yeonjun its such a perfect representation of him, from the sound to choreo to outfits, its all so unique and i love him for that
I'm always happy when you do a review of TXT, because I think you're one of the best reacting and commentating youtuber out there, and I'm glad you're so knowledgeable on Kpop and editing/cinematography. I've been playing Ggum non stop since it was released, and I love YJ obviously and agree with you; this is so quintessentially him. You're absolutely right! He showed off who he is but he didn't particularly try to pack as much vocals or rap or etc into the song in itself, making it supra fun and original, and definitely NOT what a lot of people expected. I was honestly scared during the teasing of the song. I was afraid that his solo released would aim to be catchy over his artistry, and it was the opposite. He shined through and through with every aspect and I'm so proud of him. I'm super SUPER grateful for your commentary as always, and you bring up so many things that highlight the work that went being the song and MV, which is always SUPER interesting. That's why I listen to a lot of people's opinions, to really understand what I like about it. (Every seen you pointed out was just captivating to me in a way I didn't explain, other than "Wow, cheeky !" or "So cunty, so perfect, so on beat!") Anyways... Super f*cking amazing video of yours. I'm happy you enjoyed his song. I gotta admit, I will burst if I don't get to listen to his while mixtape soon... It's only a couple weeks of wait hopefully and there's still his covers and TXT's discography.... But yeah! I was very busy with life, but I'm glad I get to enjoy amazing stuff put out by amazing people. My bias from my ult group is killing it out there, being the best guy performer of his generation... Amazing youtubers make scrumptious videos about it to watch - I genuinely appreciate your content, all the way to Kepler MVs analysis - And life is good, right!
This is so yeonjun coded like when ppl say, "I totally didn't expect this?" Babes... he's always had this vibe. Stop watching, look back at good boy gone back bc that's THIS baddie right here, older sibling
He does indeed do the splits in the live performances for ggum!!! Yeonjun was involved in every single step of this project, from the lyrics , composition and even the choreography. He even was involved in the mv concept and styling, the whole project is basically his child. I agree 100% with you when you said that this song is so Yeonjun everything abt this is Yeonjun and unabashedly so. I am so grateful he did this while on tour and preparing for the grp cb which is in november, even going to music shows to perform in front of moa. I have been obsessed with ggum. Thank you for your reaction!!
There is both a Studio Choom and a dance practice if you want to see that choreo. Also if you watch both Beomgyu and OT5 do the dance challenge, you see all the love and support. Thank you for loving this as much as we do...sooo YEONJUN!
totally, totally agree!!!!! i've been a moa for around 3 years now and from the very first watch of ggum i couldn't stop talking about just how YEONJUN it is. the styling, song, dance, the entire aesthetic of the mv can't be described in any other way apart from 'yeonjun'
There's a reason why you're my favorite reaction channel. Like there were a lot of opinions flying around, and most of them were pretty ridiculous. This sound, concept, choreography, and everything fits Yeonjun like a well fitted glove.
Everyone saying they were disappointed don't realize that this definitely sounds like a YEONJUN song. Not everyone's cup of tea but this is 100% what I expected he would release
So true!! This song is core yeonjun!! I'm so glad you said it!! It's literally perfection. Also, Just a reminder you haven't reacted to Algorithm & I'm ready by CHUNGHA yet. 😅
This is the yeonjunest song ever. Is it the most mainstream song, no. Is it the song that can showcase his rap or vocals the best no. However it shows Yeonjun the most and for his first debut single what else do people want? It's a great song that clearly is mostly about his personality, charisma and his stage presence and showcasing how that with his star power and dance skills make him so good. It's not my taste of music, but gosh is it a great song and a perfect song for Yeonjun
he came out and CHOSE to be a menace that showcased his spunk and talent and if that is not yeonjunlike, I don't know what is I am so glad he's out making his own genre in a sense bc this feels like something only he can do and what he also enjoys performing and I love it There is a lot of sexiness and silliness in a way in this and I think it's going to be very memorable.
You're right!!. This is 100% Yeonjun's sound.. the only people who are surprised would probably be the ones who only know him at surface level. I mean i do get that it might not be some people's taste, but to say it doesn't sound like him would be false🤷🏻♀️. From the choreography, the mv direction and concept, to the song itself.. it's totally 100% Yeonjun's vibe.
this is my first time watching ur channel but this was the best reaction i’ve seen so far!!! yeonjun is by far my favorite idol, and i think this debut showcases all his strengths so well. i’m glad that you mentioned that he’s clearly not trying to make a copycat type of hit, as someone who primarily listens to experimental music and some pop on the side, i totally agree. it makes me want to send a playlist to yeonjun with artists i think he would be inspired by. and i also really agree that it’s SURPRISING how much ownership they gave him over this concept. i think it shows that they trust him as an artist, that he’s reached a level of respect in the company. anyways. i’ve been eating up all the performance videos, id love to see you react to one 😝
it feels even crazier watching this reaction because I remember the time you watched txt’s introduction film. remembering TXT’s debut and watching them have their first solo debut already is so insane for me. THIS was so well done, its so good and I’m so damn happy.
I watched this and wanted to leave a comment because honestly this reaction was so bang on for how I felt watching this drop. It's so original and so fresh and so on brand for him. I too could not believe he actually did it - but only he could have done it. I love everything about this and I also love how you pointed to the way the camera work even felt disruptive. It's so disruptive sonically as well and he just makes the whole thing work 100%. The absolute FLEX to NOT use his vocal and rap skills in the same way, empty that chorus out and go with what he wanted... like wow. So much love and respect.
Hey PD, long time fan. I just wanted to say it’s fun to see you have so much fun with your video. I know you’ve gone through some changes to the channel and we’ve been brought along on that journey, but something that always rings true is your true enjoyment for music and production. So virtual high-five! Hope your life mirrors the joy you show us with videos like this 😊
@@formoftherapy just wanted to highlight the person behind the video 😄 from a viewers POV I remember your breaks and kinda losing the drive to do this channel but SO happy you stuck with it and found your joy again, since really, this channel is A Form of Therapy. 👏🏼👏🏼
Your reaction was the EXACT reaction I had first time I watched the MV XD I'm so excited for his full mixtape to come out!!! Everyone can have their opinions on his solo debut but I was really shocked that there were so many people who were trashing the song. The song was absolutely just like you said, YEONJUN, and yet there were still people complaining about it (Then again, most of the backlash is from stan twt and they'll find anything to complain about) The song has been stuck in my head since I first heard it, definitely like venom xD
HYBE blocked my Deja Vu reaction on YT. It’s on my Patreon for free in my Unreleased Collection, it’s part of a compilation with some other unreleased reactions! I filmed it when it came out but did not release some videos publicly during that time for personal reasons. But in this case Deja Vu was blocked!!
Yours is the best reaction I've seen so far on GGUM. You literally described everything so well. Like yess!!! This song, this choreo, this concept, everything is just so YEONJUN. No one would have been able to pull off this type of concept without him. Also, he literally was involved in every part of this song. From lyrics writing to choreo to producing to mv concept, everything. All I can say is that I'm just so proud of him. He is just so cool. Also, yes!!! He does the split in every live performance and kills it every time.
I love all the points you hit in this- you get it! Thank you! Its awesome that you mentioned "This is so Yeonjun". You're spot on. He said in recent interviews that the song is about his self confidence and passion on stage by equating it to chewing gum. And you can really tell how much effort and love went into this when you see all the behind the scenes and everything TXT has shared with us online. I'm just super proud of him right now and grateful for all the critique praise you gave.
all the people bitchin' on this song really only knows yeonjun on a surface level. i've been a moa since magic era and this is such a yeonjun track, and mind you, as his solo debut, it is also barely the surface as well.
been a moa since pre-debut/debut era and yeonjun biased. the way this song was so unexpected for so many people baffles me. yeonjun is a cool, fun, silly, and witty guy. all of those things fit to describe the song. people hating but as he said “this song's now stuck in your head, like venom, you can't get it off” ❤️🔥
I love your reaction! Especially the commentary about how this is so YJ because it truly is. This song fits him so well. Only people who actually know how he is would understand that this song fits his style and I’m glad he did it this way. Anyways yeonjun did a great job!
People who critique his solo so cruelly don't understand the sheer balls it takes to subvert expectations in Kpop like Yeonjun is doing. I cannot imagine a more perfect solo debut that captures Yeonjun's flavour and colour more than 껌. Everything from the song, to the choreo, to the music video is such a flawless reflection of who he is I AM GOING INSANE over how proud I feel about him.
