These are great scooters! I've got the exact same one that I picked up a couple of years ago. I had to replace the gauge cluster. The only things that worked on the old cluster were the meter and phone light.
I've noticed here in the states that vehicles are either extremely well looked after and garage kept,... or,... left outside in all weather conditions,.. uncovered. One extreme to the other.
The 400 is very good but the new model is smaller than the old one . If you are over 6 feet tall your knees will stick out . The 650 is the daddy it will keep up with anything ideal on German autobahns . With a top box and the underseat storage it has only 9 cubic storage less than a Goldwing .
DON'T use a heat gun (or torch) to "rejuvenate" plastics!!! Yes, it will look glossy again (for a while), but it does this by bringing plastic oils to the surface. Now your (vintage) plastic is even more brittle! If you want it to look glossy and black again, use a product designed for that purpose. The plastic will absorb the product, look glossy and black again, the result will last, and you will have actually improved the plastic rather than weakening it.
My nephew just bought one and it w9htnfire.,so after checking everything he moved on to the valves. And the cam was about 2 teeths wrong on the chain so he had to loosen up the chain and set them correctly and adjust the valves. But what could have happened to make that happen?
Question? I just pick up an 2012 Xciting 500. Was riding home and suddenly the bike shut off in the highway. The whole dashboard off and the only came on was trunk light and hazard light. I tested all the fuses and all are good. I think it has to do with kill switch or ignition. WHat do you think or have in mind. Thank you.
I've heard of the kill switch being the culprit for many bikes. But i dont know if it's the ignition. Is your battery good? Sometimes the simplest answer is the one.
The bike had only 1900 miles on it. Battery read at 12.56 volts. I rode for 15 minutes and stop at a place for 1 hours. Started and go for another minutes in a highway and it went dead, silent on me. I thought i touch the kill switch but the kill switch was still run position. Stop at the highway and tried to start back up but nothing comes on. Watched all your video on the bike and thinking maybe you can help. I will take a look at the kill switch tomorrow morning. Thanks. @@VehicleHunter
Scooter ignition switches are often broken by riders putting their scooter key on their "High School Janitor" keyring. All that weight bouncing up and down will trash the ignition switch and can leave you stranded. @@VehicleHunter
