Let's finish our tour at the ‪@lsstarretttools‬ factory up in Athol, Massachusetts and see how they build their high quality precision tools! In this video we'll get to see the punch press department, small gages, raw castings & forgings, combination square assembly, finishing processes and quality control. This tour spanned the period of two days and although we tried to get in as much as we could, it's simply too vast to be able to see it all and visit all of the departments. We hope that our viewers enjoy the tour and having some insite on many of the tools and processes that Starrett performs to build the best precision tools available! #starrett #precisiontools #manufacturing

What I loved was the segment where we saw the Acme machines that were inoperative because the guy who operated all five retired so they replaced the work with CNC machines. What was so amazing about that was they didn't replace him as long as he could contribute to the overall output. They kept him employed and productive while making up the difference with CNC. I've never heard of a manufacturing company that would do that. They have an enormous loyalty to their employees.

I'm honored that A&A Booth took the time to visit my home state of MA. Starrett is an American Icon. Try to imagine how many trillions of dollars worth of machinery has been built with Starrett tools.

Great to see a factory with old wood floors and tons of windows that actually open. Worked a week in a big modern factory ten hours a day during the winter where I did not see the sun for five days. Finally put my winter coat on and sat in my car to see the sun while eating my lunch. Appears they go out of thier way to take good care of thier workers. Now you are just a # to companies.

I don’t think people realize how incredible this company is. Starrett tools have touched every industry in America for so long. What a great tour…. It’s the equivalent to touring Yankee stadium if you’re a baseball fan or Lambeau if you’re an NFL fan.

Yeah, half of my precision tools are Starrett. Too bad they just sold the company, I guess we can expect their quality to take a nose dive soon enough. They'll be made overseas by a Chinese company, all that'll be left is the name.

Hi Adam. There is a good chance that my grandfather assembled your granddad’s micrometer. He worked at Starrett for 30 years, retiring in 1972 from the micrometer assembly area. He started out making the wooden finger-jointed boxes that Starrett used to package their tools in. I still have some and some micrometers from my grandfather also. Great tour and great documentation of some of the processes used to manufacture these great American tools. Thanks for your work to produce these videos.

Pretty cool of Starrett to let you see everything - and Film! - usually manufactures don't do that, but I'm guessing since they don't have a lot of competition, they aren't too concerned about trade secrets. Starrett - Filming? No problem. Wal-Mart - "Sir, turn off your phone camera"

Pay attention all you young people who feel lost and think “what can I do, I don’t have any experience”. You can dedicate yourself to making America better by watching at 26:13 and building yourself a better life if you’re willing to learn! Go apply at Starrett and learn a career instead of playing video games and living in mom’s basement. If you have reasonable eye and hand coordination you can make something of yourself.
@james-ew7kl
@james-ew7kl 4 месяца назад
Kids spending hours and hours in their mum's basement playing video games, in so doing would probably have developed some pretty awesome brain, eye and hand coordination. Pretty useful if you're single blocking through a new program at the CNC machine to prove it out; at warp speed without crashing being the expectation when fully proficient. But maybe with the new conversational stuff, they don't do that any more; certainly haven't seen it here.
