I have played one of these and I love the way the neck felt in my hand too, like butter. I might lower the action a little, but I would keep those lipstick pick ups!!! I don't know why I haven't acquired one yet...oh right, I'm broke as usual. A band I was in the late 70s (78 to 80) had this old huge amp called a "Standel" (?) that stayed in the practice space (not brought to gigs) because it was really too cumbersome to move (I swear it was almost 6 feet tall and like 2.5 feet wide, 2-15" cracked/perforated speakers, maybe intentionally) and really not that versatile for the stuff we were playing at the time. I don't even know who it belonged to, I think the drummer's dad because we practiced in a room over a detached garage at his house. I bet it had not moved from its place since the 50s!!! We were just high school kids. But it was totally sick sounding like you said that Kinks sound. I was really the only one that appreciated its sound shapes and huge metallic spring reverb. The only songs we used it for in rehearsal is Rock Lobster, 52 Girls, and Planet Claire by B52s (we did mostly punk and new wave, some Stooges, NY Dolls, MC5)so the other guys did not think it was worth shlepping around for that, I would have!!! Just didnt sound the same without it really. I would give several of my useless toes to have that thing here right now.
Lee Mavens...the greatest lost talent of his generation. The La's debut album is a masterpiece. This man should have been the next Dylan. What happened Lee?
Phenomenal - Mavers is Daltrey, Townshend and Moon all at once! And how on earth does he attack his guitar like that without using a pick? His thumb must be made of solid bone!
@@coryserratore5951 I 've just thought about it, too. A wonderful version of a great song. I' ve always loved The Who..... The La's is also a very, very good band. Lee Mavers is fantastic....and the other guys are too. Love The La's.

@@69birdboy because he's one dimensional..all hype..he had to get Steve lillywhite to make there she goes radioworthy ..and the rest are all stones rip offs and skiffle jams apart from timeless melody and looking glass
