Here's my take on Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart's 'The Lady Is a Tramp', recorded live at Mr. Vain. / mrvainbrisbane
'The Lady Is a Tramp' was written by Rodgers and Hart for their 1937 musical 'Babes in Arms', and is a spoof of the etiquette and pretence of high society. 'Babes in Arms' also gave us such songs as 'Where or When', 'My Funny Valentine', 'Johnny One Note', and 'I Wish I Were in Love Again'.
For the original Broadway production, it was sung by Mitzi Green, and although it was only used as an instrumental tune in the 1939 film version of 'Babes in Arms', it was sung by Frank Sinatra in the 1957 film version of Rodgers and Hart's 'Pal Joey'. It has also been sung by Lena Horne, Anita O'Day, Rosemary Clooney, Mel Tormé, Patti Page, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Troup, Jo Stafford, Polly Bergen, Mark Murphy, Della Reese, Buddy Greco, Sammy Davis Jr., Peggy Lee, Shirley Bassey, Carmen McRae, Tony Bennett, and many others. I hope you enjoy it!
