Play this every year on my birthday, close my eyes and feel 17 all over again. A time when scooter rallies, dancing, beach parties, and smartly dressed Mod boys were my only focus.
One of my favourite songs of all time! Just want to get up and dance every time I hear it! Summed up many nights in the Discos!! (Can’t believe this isn’t available on Spotify!!)
This is USA calling... and I just obtained a copy of the Lambrettas' debut LP (which was released Stateside). This is my second favorite UK Mod Revival LP (right behind the Jam's "Setting Sons")...!
"Poison Ivy" might honestly be my least favourite song on that whole album, especially compared to killer tunes like "Cortina", "London Calling" and "Beat Boys".
XTC song "Senses Working Overtime" was Andy Partridge homage to Manfred Mann's ""5,4,3,2,1" I loved The Lambrettas cover of the original we were spoiled for music as pre teens and teenagers and upwards everyone of us went through "phases" without realising it, Weller was spot on "realities so hard, realities so hard!!!"
So glad to be the 300th 'like' for this! Had the 7" vinyl back in the day, which was sadly stolen from me when I had a house party in 1984.. Still sounds as fresh as it did when I saw them live back in 1980!
Paul Wincer. He actually owned a music shop called Poole Percussion in Poole, Dorset and was in a local band with a friend of mine who was the bassist. Saw them several times but they eventually split and his shop closed down sometime ago. Presume he still lives local though.
Beat boys In the jet age , union jack picture disc for this single if my memory serves me. I realise they were manufactured but as a 12 year old aspiring mod, they got me on the dance floor alongside the two tone bands.
