Always love to the Lancaster . My mother worked in the Crossley factory - one of the 26 factories where the Lanc was made. She was on the night shift for nearly 2 years and was responsible for fitting the tailplane assembly and terminating the connectors in the rear turret. When I was a boy in the late 1940s early 1950s, A V Roe - the manufacturers, used to have an open day each year. If you were family of anyone who worked there during the war you got a go in the rear turrets. I did that on 3 open days. Then they stopped it as AVRO wound down . It is a lovely lovely aircraft and it used to fly over our house on its proving flight having been finished the night before. Then it went directly to the bomber squadrons airfields. Some Lancs were finished, then flew around Woodford aero drone on a proving flight, went to a squadron and were shot down the following night on operations. I’m 84 now and it still gives me shivers to see one flying.

@@butlersempire Thank you. It’s something from childhood that stayed with me. On open days it was difficult enough to crawl up from the rear turret to the bomb aimer’s dome. I often thought of how difficult it would have been for someone in full flying kit to get through. And in some of the cases when a bomber had been badly damaged, the crew must have been really hard put to it to get out with a parachute kit. The rear gunner couldn’t keep his parachute because he couldn’t fit in the turret with it on. He had to rotate the turret so that he could back out into the tail and grab his parachute and then find his way to the exit. A young man on our street called Harry Jameson was a rear gunner at 18 and had to get out of THREE aircraft ! He survived the war. He used to come around the schools in Stockport and tell us about his experiences - it was an RAF recruiting team. There were whole families around my area that worked in one or the other AVRO factories. One man was a coppersmith by trade. He was employed on the air frame. In his spare time he made a lovely scale model of the Lanc and he used to display it at the annual fruit and veg show for local gardeners. At night time, when the bombers were circling overhead to form into their groups from all over the North West and fly off out over Lancashire, Yorkshire and off across the North Sea, the vibration used to shake anything on the mantelpiece! Sometimes it would set off the poker and coal scoop in the hearth and they would jangle. Just watching that Lanc on this video brings all that back. Hope she is kept flying for more years. I believe there is one in Canada too.

@@butlersempire I saw that video. As you know, A V Roe updated the Lanc to 1946 drawings and it flew on in Coastal Command as the Lincoln. Then I think A V Roe eventually moved officially over to Canada where the Lancaster had also been made and then flown across the Atlantic by the Women’s Air Auxilliary so that it could join squadrons in the UK. I recently saw that the Canadian factory was involved in working on a US bomber. I managed to get a flight In an AVRO Anson when I was in the air cadets. All a long time ago. But part of our history.

What a lovely video my farther in law was on Reconnaissance during 1941 till 1947 he was part of a crew which flew Mitchell B25 we still have his Log books . so we love the old ww2 Aircraft and I still have family who live in Nottingham and I remember going to Skegness over 40yrs ago every summer with my grandparents staying in a caravan and loved every minute of it but haven't been to Skegness for over 30yrs . ( lovely tribute to Olivia )❤

That Lancaster flew low over my house today as part of the Coronation flypast at Bletchley Park. So it was interesting to see your footage today, behind the fence. What a lovely gesture to remember your Granddaughter Olivia's birthday. Thanks for the Skeggy footage. Not been there for years. The mess is probably caused in high season when dirty, lazy people don't bother binning their rubbish or taking it home & just leave it on the beach for someone else to clean up! Years ago, the sea bed was dredged along the coast and pumped out to replenish the eroding beach, and to give the sea defence more protection.

I really enjoyed this from start to finish,love the bomber and the black and white tint,been skegy when younger.I take these polls with a pinch of salt,in the sun they were saying torquay worse place,then in another paper saying the best,papers are a bunch of tossers as are polls and the jimmy saville loving bbc sorry rant over lol. If it makes you feel better about the prices, in Oxford the equivalent buffet restaurant is £19.50 for lunch mon-thu and in my local Oxford chippy Haddock and Chips for one is £17.95! Good to see Skegness in reality which looks fine. Lovely tribute to Olivia. Thanks for sharing.

Was so disappointed on Saturday when they said the flyby was curtailed due to the weather. But if we want too see these historic planes continue flying, unfortunately it won't ever be on a rainy day. Too much time, man hours and money invested in them to ruin it in the rain. As I have said before my grandad flew in the Lancaster as a rear gunner. He was originally from Goole which isn't too far from there.

Where I am in Lincolnshire, the BBMF passes over the village every time it's heading into the South of England. The engine sounds are so distinct, and as much as I like hearing the Merlins in the Lancaster, the sound is even better when the Spitfires pass over. With regard to uploading while away, check with the hotel you're staying at. Most these days have free WiFi guests can use.

Love the WWII warbirds. We went on the guided tour at the BBMF and then watched them take off during our one and only holiday at Skeggy. Weve not been back to Skeg, not because its dirty but because i think that it lacks character compared to somewhere like Scarborough or Whitby.

Fantastic footage how privileged are we to have access to seeing 2 of those amazing Lancaster’s . Great to see the crew taking time out to see the fans watching. We are super lucky to see all the BBMF regularly flying over our houses super low, those Merlin’s still make my hair stand up on my neck after all my life hearing and seeing it. Raff I think used to be a ice skating rink when I was in my teens ? I was absolutely rubbish at ice skating and no idea how I didn’t break a ankle.🦋Olivia . Great look around Skegness I work on the east coast all of the time and I think it’s immaculately kept and it has great memories from my childhood. Thanks for promoting it in a positive light 👍👍👍👍

Nice outing, guys, thank you! Lovely to see the bomber, especially as she couldn't make the Big Parade - what a shame? And nice to have a bit of an amble around Skeggy - wouldn't like to tell you how long ago since I was there, (although looked just the same!!) I've been down in Tasmania longer than I can reconcile!! And I'm one of those crook as a Sheppard's cane, but worser, if you can imagine, so like you walkabouts?! Be interesting to see where the beach is next time you go back - the wind does whip across the Channel smartish, doesn't it? Wow what a fantastic sight to see. We saw the arrows at Lincoln the day they were practicing I think however see them most weeks. , I love planes almost as much as cars. Hehe that fast cars. The Lancaster has a sound of its own fantastic. I find seeing the Lancaster a bit emotional to think of those pilots that were out in these planes fighting for us.

I never understood why skeggy is constantly down voted but then again, its a which magazine survey for the posh tosh. The reason for the brown water sea is the sand being mixed up by the currents and tides, simple, its not pollution or dirt. That remembrance for Olivia got to me man!!!

Martin, I have calcified Achillies Tendons so I know the discomfort. A podiatrist made a padding ot raise my heel in my shoe and it made a huge difference to comfort and being able to walk. Also, you need to do raising on toes and lowering slowly exercises to strengthen calf muscles. Alternating each foot rise is good too, works for me. Lovely Lancaster bomber plane.

My mum worked on the bombers during the war, she was in the RAF, she was on a base down south she received a medal off George VI for her work on the planes, she told me of how she was told to get as many planes ready and wasn’t told until after that it was for the Battle of Britain, she was awarded the mentioned in dispatches medal which was a oak leaf her and my father fought, my dad was in Africa and France whilst in the army. Thank you for doing this it means a lot. ♥️♥️♥️ it brings back memories of them both and how selfless they were, when I was younger I asked my dad why he fought and in one word he said “freedom” ♥️ to ya both.

Ive only been skegness once i went in january with the coach firms reunion we stayed at the savoy hotel such a 4nice family run hotel but its not been in the brochure soi couldntbookto go again i think its a lovely place and would love to go back inthe summer .i was mybirthday yeaterday the 7th may and 40 years since illst my lovely dad i was 29 th day and all mum could say was i havent got your present yet i told her stop worrying about a present it didnt matter she had just lost her husband and us kids had lost our dad i once disnt know wether to enjoy my birthday or be sad about dad but i thought he would of wanted me to be happy love to you all love fran xxxx

Hi I love your channel and have made many of your recipes. I thought you would be interested in my grandads in put with the Lancaster . He helped design the Merlin engines and worked with Barnes Wallace on the bouncing bomb . It was his job to alter the gearing on the engine so when the planes flew low and slow to drop the bombs they didn’t stall . He revived the MBE for this x

Chapel St Leonard’s small but worth a visit. They have a great small beach bar take the family to. We often go to the beach when we stay at our Caravan site at Hogsthorpe
