The Lancia Flaminia Makes a Ferrari from the Same Era Seem Crude

The flagship of Lancia's three model line during one of their greatest periods in time, the Flaminia is a technological tour de force which was built to the company's famously high standards. Employing a V6 mated to a four-speed rear-mounted transaxle, de Dion suspension, and disc brakes all around, it was chock full of innovative features, but the best part of the car is the way it feels to drive it. In this video, Derek Tam-Scott drives a wonderfully sorted 2.8 liter Pininfarina-bodied Flaminia Coupe and extols the virtues of pre-Fiat Lancia, explaining where it fit into the Italian car hierarchy and the sort of buyers who love them.

About ISSIMI
The niche, $30b industry of collectable and low-production cars has seen little innovation in the past several decades. It’s one that lacked transparency, dependent on traditional dealers, brokers, and auction houses with unnecessarily high fees.
We’re setting out to change that.
We believe our technological and operational excellence can decrease costs while increasing transparency into car quality, building trust between collectors. Give us a shot, and shop rare cars anywhere in the world from the comfort of your own home.

Lancias of this era are gorgeous.

I really enjoyed this video. The new format is refreshing, but I do also miss the relaxed nature of Derek's voiceovers. Maybe some combination of both, where Derek covers some of the more technical aspects and driving impressions while driving but does the metaphorical and historical discussions on the car with B-roll footage and voiceover?

The Fulvia was the car that made me fell in love with Lancia. The Lancias from the 50s and 60s are so interesting and gorgeous. To me the Aurelias and the Flaminias were among the best cars of that time. Now i am a happy owner of a 68 Fulvia coupe, not a 1.6 as the one from my childhood because they skyrocketed in value, but maybe one day. I really hope to see more from you about all the great Lancias from the past. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Only Hyphen could say Ferraris and Alfas feel "cheap and crappy" and still make me stand up and take notice.

I think one has to own a classic Italian car to appreciate the passion that went into its design and manufacture. I have owned several Alfa’s in the past and have worked on them as a trained technician. Whenever I see a classic Italian car I feel all warm and gooey inside:)

I saw one, shockingly good, I love C pillar and fins on the big rear overhand, ballanced, elegant, and with the transaxle cannot drive bad.

Well done DTS. All true Lancias are just magic automobiles. I've heard some describe them as the "architect's" car of choice. Sounds good to me.

You can tell from the video the car was build to a bit different standards compared to other Italian cars of the day. It really has Mercedes feel to it on the inside. Something between W110 and later W108 which is really good company to be in.

Derek's thinking man's review is a perfect match for this very well thought out machine. Wish I had bought a Lancia when they were in my price range. 🤷‍♂️👍☮🇮🇹

You know that sometimes DTS is like “dammit Cammisa” for the nickname “Hyphen”.

Lancias have always been a niche within the niche of Italian cars, at least here in the US. I just found this channel, but you are obviously a fan of Lancia. As a Flaminia owner myself, I can vouch for the ownership experience, both good and bad. Now, find a Flavia Sport Zagato to review and you will literally be then FIRST to do so on RU-vid!

Thanks very much. i was at an auction today to see one, arrived late and missed it, didnt want to get out f it though!!. This is the first video of yours I've seen and it's great. I want one even more now. Very informative and exactly what I wanted to hear! It was a 2.8 in silver with red interior gorgeous. In the Uk £20k for a pinifarina 60's Italian car.

After seeing this video, I have a new found love for the more luxurious and elegant Lancias and vintage cars in general. It’s such a beautiful car. You can tell that passion was poured in it. Videos like this make me fall in love with cars all over again and leave me speechless trying to explain to my friends the feelings I get from seeing cars.

Keep them coming, Derek and Issimi! This was fantastic, definitely got a great sense of the car and it's position/purpose in the market of the era. Loved hearing the double-clutching of the trans while it was warming up at the start of the drive. Very conscientious and sympathetic. Cheers from Chicago!

What a classy classic coupe. From an era when people really understood what good taste was; elegant and simple, well-crafted, good looking but discrete and engaging but without sacrificing comfort. Is like the perfect blend of the things that make a car interesting. I’m trying to think of the modern equivalent of this car but I can’t come up with anything because everything is too flashy these days.

This is an amazing video. Mr. Underwear on the Runway Tam Scott has outdone himself here. This car is basically like a Rolls Royce phantom DHC, but maybe even more unique and rich feeling. I am surprised that a relatively low compression, long stroke pushrod V6 can make such noises. It almost sounds Dino V6-like. From what I've heard, they don't even break that much if cared for in a proper way like the 100K dollar equivalent cars they were back in the early 60's. As a 16 year old, I have a passion for pre-FIAT lancia's, specifically the Fulvia and the B24 that is weirdly uncanny for ppl of my generation lol.
