The Land the Man & White . White Farm Equipment (1980). Shows the full line of White Field Boss tractors, White combines, plows and planters. Various interviews with Charles City tractor plant employees.
My dad bought a 2-70 brand new in 1976. I was 10 years old at the time. I still use it to this day and I'm 58 now. It only has 1625 hours on it and runs as good now as it did almost 50 years ago. Great tractor.
The White was the very best looking tractor ever made,it looked too good to put out in the field, with its two tone grey, silver, black, then trimmed out in chrome, very nice.
I just bought a house built in 1948 in MN. I was looking through the attic and a copy of film with this title was in a red container. It was mailed from one of the sales reps from this tractor company. How cool to find it uploaded to watch! Thanks for helping solve the puzzle!
My Grandfather worked in the foundry in Charles City for many years. Every employee got screwed over so hard at the end of White Farm. Closing the factory killed Charles City.
@@randyrobinson8751 Well you can’t put all the blame on the politicians. Citizens who purchased things became accustomed to in expensive products and demanded that and the only way to keep that happening was to reduce labor costs and corporations have an incentive to maximize profit legally and Labor is the biggest expense so it follows that they would outsource their labor to other countries with lower wages as sad as that is.
I love these videos, but they genuinely ruin my whole day. Sad and devastated at what we've lost. The 2 dealers closest to me nowadays are a Yanmar and a Mahindra and I throw up in my mouth a little each time I drive by
In the 70's I spent a lot hours in a White 2-180 with the cat 3208 V8 engine. We definitely had problems keeping the AC working in the TX heat, and the Cat engine blew up no less than three times in two years, other than that, I liked the Tractor.
I’ve got a 2-135 use it for spraying , planting and just about everything else. Great tractor. Great engine ( Hercules). Just doesn’t run out of power.
Beyond sad. A fine example of superior Engineering and piss poor management from the time Sam White took over. Have a barn full that will whip the snot out of any comparable competitor of the day. If the CVT designed in 72 would have been pursued, there would be no Deere idiots anymore except at a show popping corn.
I own a white 2-105 nice little tractor I really like it only thing I got against it is it's the roughest riding tractor I've ever owned but it's a work horse
James Oliver started in the plow business in 1855, 18 years after John Deere. This isn't a who invented it or who is better, it is a point in history. Deere made the first self scouring plow. Oliver made chilled steel plows, which in certain soil was superior to conventional production methods. Oliver plows are quite good and are among the better ones built. Looking back, you could always tell when neighbors helped one another with different brand of plow anyways looking at the field they plowed. Some did a better job of setting theirs than others too.
