So, apparently, she killed and stuffed the other two men, that’s probably why he recognised their names because they might have been in the newspaper for being missing persons. Also, in the actual story, he said the tea tasted a bit like almonds, and that’s kind of what poison tastes like.
Yes, I’m here from English class. But can we please appreciate how creative Roald Dahl is? And how perfect the short film is? They got everything on point. Even “The fillings in the back of the mouth.” Everything was perfect. Great job!!!
I don't know what was more foolish, the landlady giving away that Mulholland and Temple were still on the third floor, or the fact that Billy Weaver didn't get that obvious red flag.
I think it makes sense, considering they “were” guests (if you went to a restaurant that served the president, they would refer to the president in past tense), and Billy should not expect that they still are at the house. It does, however, turn suspicious when she says that they never left, which in itself is super suspicious.
It is told also on BBC TV- Talse of the unexpected... Since watched it, I became afraid to stay in Bed and Breakfast, in England... Lucky nothing happen to me, when I stayed in London for few years, and all I could afford, was is a besitter, for 3£ per week, in early 70's... Landlady's who were normal grandmother's. I lived on top floor/attic room, and had a stove and and a kettle, prepared my own tea.
@@mirahsamiyahrajwan7903 I first saw The Landlady on the BBC's Tales Of The Unexpected and I was haunted enough by it to not watch anymore of that anthology series. But it still gives me great admiration for how British TV could most uniquely flourish with horror stories.

Updated I see. I feel the urge to say that it doesn't exactly go over all of the detail. This film has him knocking on the door whereas in the original story he rings the doorbell and it states that the door was answered before he could even remove his finger from the button, which startles him. Still quite a good film.
I read Dahl's books when I was young, 1950's and that lead me to Andre Norton and Robert Heinlein and now at 73 I Live on RU-vid listening to books like The Landlady then the Algorithm sends me to This Film. Life is Wonderful!
The original short film is far superior to this version and is creepy af. The landlady was nice,crazy,seductive and terrifying all at the same time. The end was sad and terrifying even though I already read the story.
i swear reading the story that she is an old siren because the sign lured him in instead of the dragon hotel, and she only lets the "perfect ones" inside, as in the handsome ones.
He should’ve bolted out the door when she said “Mr Mulholland WAS 17, and he WAS a tad bit shorter than you.” but claims he still lives there... if he still lived there why would she refer to him as past tense?
I enjoyed the performance but I did wish you did the whole story, especially the scene when she walks in to the other stiffs bedroom to collect her stuffing trolley and says hello.
TheGodParticle we adapted this from the original short story, I don't recall that part being in there but it sounds like a good addition, maybe that's from the play or other film versions
It was really frightening. Her suggestions about presence of the two other persons who actually visited her 2 years before has chilling effect on soul. Reference of "stuffed" cat is indirect reference of stuffed visitors who fell to her cold cruelty and murderous instincts and never proceeded to their destinations ever again.
Am I the only one who realized that the landlady first said Mulholland is not an Eton schoolboy, but a Cambridge undergrad, and then later saying that he is 17 years old? How can a Cambridge undergrad be 17 years old?????
im here for my homeschool english classes and i listen to asmr to calm my self down from stress and this is just like it its so relaxing but the story is interesting
This happened to me many years ago. l rented a room from a spinster and she came onto me. But she didn't try to kill me. My only regret is declining her advances. lt was so unexpected.
Is it weird that I've always felt, with only very minimal rewording, that the original story could be very much like that (she tries to hit on him instead of kill him)?
But.. I can't be the only one who trusts the landlady. Maybe she just had a bad experience in the past and is just genuinely nice. If anyone agrees with me please say
