The Langdale Pikes // Hiking Vlog #8

Filmed on Monday 24th December 2018
After many equipment issues on previous vlogs and even a couple of vlogs completely ruined because of kit failures, I decided to get some new bits and pieces that would provide better quality videos and simplify the whole process.
Therefore it's been quite a while since my last video but I needed to get things right. And I also wanted the weather to be good on the first outing with this new gear.
Christmas Eve was the day I chose. It was forecast glorious sunshine all day and for once the forecasters got it right; it was perfect. Finn and I spent the day around the Langdale Pikes. I selected a route that would take in Raven Crag, Loft Crag, Pike o' Stickle, Thunacar Knott, Harrison Stickle, Pavey Ark and Pike Howe.
This part of the Lake District never disappoints and on days like these it can only be described as heavenly.

Beneath the remains, what an album! Sepultura at their best. Still got it in my collection on vinyl, bought way back in the day . Love the lake district. Great vlogs. Keep up the good work. 👍🤘

You're videos are bloody excellent! I like your delivery. You talk with us rather than to us. Also you are providing an excellent reference and guide for us all. Lakeland Tourism should be paying you royalties!

The photograph of the mist in the valley bottom is superb. 😍 I like the interesting fact about the Neolithic axe production. The drone shots around the great mound of Pike O' Stickle and the view of Stickle Tarn are great! Thank you to you and your Zoom Buddy Finn. 🐕🐕🐕

Hi there I'm planning a trip to explore the Central Fells and the Langdales in April... your work is absolutely amazing. What photography! I can't wait to get up there and can only hope the weather is kind. Thank you so much. You capture the atmosphere and strength of those mountains so well. 👏

Fantastic mate, especially seeing all that frost and the sun going down at 3.30pm! Cracking hat and enjoyed the occasional outbreak of song! Looked like a stunning day! New camera works really well 📸👍

You had me at “brunch”! I imagined you and Finn tucking into salmon and scrambled eggs with a Bloody Mary. Fantastic film, Glenn. I lived at Skelwith Bridge for three years so a quick access to Langdale on such days was a great privilege.

What a glorious day, and a glorious way to spend Christmas Eve. Very enjoyable film. I'm staying in the Langdale Valley for a few days this summer, so might try your route as it looks like an excellent hike.

I've visited the Lake District on 3 occasions (twice this year) so consider myself slightly ignorant of what's where but I'm getting such a wonderful perspective from your vlogs and feel more informed and better equipped to explore the Lakes when I next come up. Thank you so much, I appreciate your time and effort, keep up the vlogs.

Great video again mate, Didn't realise it was a 360 camera on a selfie stick until I seen the shadow! haha .. genuinely thought you had your drone following you about lol. This definitely gave me a lake district fix. Can't wait to get back over there. Missing doing my videos ! Looking forward to your next one!

Hey Glenn! Hope you had a good Christmas and new year! Just caught up on all the vlogs and this one in particular is incredible mate. You've come such a long way in a short period of time with it all its honestly impressive. The audio was amazing and I love that new camera you have, the wide angle is ace. I especially liked the drone footage at 7:40 and 13:30 too! - and all the images were sublime too mate, should get those up on insta soon pal! Hopefully see you again soon man!

It certainly doesn’t disappoint! Was up there on Sunday and it was glorious. However, daughter thinks I’m stalking you so changed route slightly! Went up Jack’s rake, wow! Highly recommend this for the morning adrenaline rush. Also added High Raise and Sergeant Man for the Wainwright list! Look forward to your next vlog. 👍🏼

I just think it is a shame that this quality of work isn't seen by more people. I wonder if you should apply your skills to more main stream topics so that you could get the size of audience that this type of content, filming and post production quality deserves. First class!

Fantastic film & love the camera work. Id say one of the best I've seen so far on you tube as it gives a much better perspective of your walk & what you are seeing. Brilliant. Heading up there on that very route this weekend so your film has helped me out. Can you tell me what camera you use to film while your walking? Thanks & subscribed

End of 2018, wishing us well for the new year, none of us new what was coming in 2020 with the pandemic. Fortunately walking in the countryside was largely unaffected and much needed for mental health.

Wow! That 360 camera makes a huge difference to the perspective of the videos. Would be interested to hear what new kit you invested in? How did you record the audio as well, was it using an external mic?
@BlackCrag
@BlackCrag 5 лет назад
Thanks very much Jake. Yeah, the 360 opens up so many possibilities when it comes to filming alone in places like that. The new kit was the 360 camera, instead of my phone. And also the external lav mic (Rode Smartlav) which is just brilliant!
