Think Wrestlemania 4 was one of the worse in history. Promoting a four hour show back then for WWF was a mistake. The tournament was mostly forgettable though I liked the main event. I would like to hear a insight into why they put Greg over Steamboat and didn't give us Macho-Steamboat 2. Think Meltzer makes a good point about the lack of atmosphere in the Trump plazer compared to those big sporting arenas.
They may have been hoping that they could headline another PPV, or alteast a SNME with a Steamboat/Savage rematch, with Savage avenging the WM3 lose. Doing it in the middle of WM4 would have been seen as a waste. Although when Dibaise was supposed to win, it might have helped put the Macho Man over, and set up the Million Dollar Man/Savage angle. But Steamboat left the company and the rematch never happened.
After Wrestlemania 3 Steamboat requested time off to be with his wife and newborn son. This caused major heat with Vince because at that time no one took time off unless they were seriously injured. Vince granted the request but took the IC title off of him. When he came back he was treated like a lower mid card guy immediately. Losing to Valentine in the first round was the final straw for Ricky and he left for WCW soon after.
