For us baby boomers Topps cards was always a quality product. Not only sports cards but non sports card also.. In one of my local stores I remember seeing boxes of Mars Attacks & Civil War News packs. The Mars Attacks packs & cards are expensive as there was an outcry of parents saying the cards were too gory so Topps pulled them from the market. The Civil War News cards were way more gory but were kept in print as they were deemed historical. What a great store.
What's up man. I'm the guy with the Clemente collection. He was my father's favorite player. When I started taking vintage seriously, I had to do his complete Topps run in honor of my dad. Glad you enjoyed it.
@@jessewatts9943 Thanks for the reply. It’s always been a dream of mine to collect vintage cards. I have a few old cards but not of the caliber of players showcased on Chasing Cardboard. Stay safe and be well.
Too cool! If I ever make it to Louisville, have to plan a trip here. I really like the Clemente collection, my favorite all time player. Thanks for the tour!
This video covers less than 25% of the store. This is the place for Yu-Gi-Oh, MTG, Pokemon, Lorcana, etc. If it's a game that you can play, Decades is the place to go.
+relatively long read - true story+ Right-off-the-rip; same thing with me....as with Alex!! I _vividly_ remember busting packs of Topps in '87 Topps, but '89 was *_ABSOLUTELY_* ,....."the year"....that changed my card-collecting, life! Speaking of life,.... _for the life of me_ ,....I could *_not_* pull a *Gregg Jeffries* , _Topps_ *FUTURE STAR* card!! Pack after pack,...box after box; allowance after allowance,....lawn mowing after lawn mowing; I just could not hit that Jeffries card!! 35 years ago, and I remember it just as if it were yesterday!! The Jeffries [single]card was selling for a (at the time; 13 year old) pocket-busting *_THREE DOLLARS_* !! Packs were only $.50 @ *The Comic & Card Exchange* (our local card shop) so I just couldn't bring myself to give-in and plunk the 3 bucks down for the Jeffries, single. Needless to say, after about the entire summer had passed, I finally relented, after busting the equivalent of probably 4-5 boxes worth of packs...with nary a _single_ , Jeffries, pulled! I gave the shop owner my three bucks and in turn....received a _gorgeous_ Jeffries FUTURE STAR card!! I still had 2 bucks left and,...well...being a kid who loved collecting cards/building sets/busting packs....figured I buy a couple more packs. _WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT_ ; *_literally_* ,....in the _VERY FIRST PACK_ that I opened,...after forking-over the three bucks for the Jeffries card,....low-and-behold.....right there, smack-dab in the middle of the pack....was staring up at me..... _YUP_ ; you guessed it; the *Gregg Jeffries* *_FUTURE STAR_* card!!
Is this space larger than Burbank Sportcards in California? Topps will always be my first love. I started in 1980 and still love the hobby. It has definitely changed.
No. He meant what he said. The topps. 89 upper deck is the iconic one but a lot of ppl/kids weren’t buying or couldn’t afford the upper deck packs. Also on timing of release. Topps Griffey was a big one.
@@captainrobots1 Have you ever looked up the definition of "business" and "hobby"? Most people buying cards are trying to make money also and thus it is not a hobby for them so this is a business shop. The hobby is being destroyed by greed.
