AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT ! I was a part of a midwest club that had a modular-O layout, nowhere near this size. It takes a TON of planning, packing, unpacking, setup and running HOURS to pull something like this off. Sad part: you are exhausted by the time the public comes in!
One of the cars ready to drag looks like a Plymouth Super Bird. Incredibly awesome layout. Drool, drool. The long, sweeping curves of track add such realism. Also the tracks seem so solidly anchored; so straight and true. Beyond nice; what a great way to spend many, many hours. Some folks have such creative imaginations! And time - and money!
A terrific layout indeed. Tons of unique imagination. And the diecast collection is by far the biggest I've seen. Lots of older and hard to find pieces. Well done ! 👍👍👍
Impressive layout and array of trains! The guys really put a lot of effort into this one. Nick thanks for taking the time to show the entire layout. The roundhouse with all of the Big Boy locomotives was awesome to see! See you at the Greenberg Show next weekend!

That's not a steel train at 4:15. Those are slag pots. They're pretty much only used in the vicinity of a blast furnace and are shoved off to a disposal area where the slag is dumped off into slag pits.
My brother and I grew up next to the park but I moved away long before Kennywood started its Christmas Lights event. I need to come home during Christmas to see this in person. I am a member of the Houston Tinplate Operators Society (HTOS) and need to share this with the other members. I am an American Flyer collector and operator, and HTOS has a small AF layout. The club meets twice a week, Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons at its storefront in Memorial City Mall.
This detail is really amazing, well thought out scenes/ and love the long straight-a-ways... I have a Q. What company sells the automobiles for O scale 1:48 that I see here? There's a great many variety of models here, from 50's 60's up to todays models. I've had a hard time finding that 1/48 - O scale, see a lot of other scales but not 1:48. Guess I need to look harder.
Most of the vehicles on the layout are 1/43 or 1/50, but the few 1/48 vehicles we do have on the layout are mostly from Menards (and very inexpensive, too!)
We use two Lionel ZW-L transformers for a little redundancy and to have more available power, but just one ZW-L can handle this layout as long as we are not running with too many smoke units and incandescent bulbs in passenger cars.
They always have impressive layouts, but it's unfortunate that they're not too pleasant to deal with. Inquired about joining and was basically brushed aside with some hodge podge answers with clearly no interest in new people joining.
@@keithm5224 then you can state you're not taking new members, not "well you have to hang around us, and we have to get to know you, then if we're Ok with you, we'll consider letting you join. You'll have to build your own section for displaying and you're not guaranteed to be able to run your train". It played out like a scene in "Mean Girls".
@@TheDarkPhoenix23 Then they didn’t say they don’t want new members. That’s how it was when I joined 10 years ago. I haven’t been active recently but I know that many new people have joined, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re hesitant to accept new people. You have to remember that this is an independent social club separate from any other model train organization and if they don’t like you why would the let you in. Everyone builds a module, that’s how it is. And of course you’re not guaranteed to be able to run a train if there’s 20 members and 4 tracks
@@keithm5224 i didn't say they didn't want new members. I said when i inquired, it was basically put to me to kiss butt with the hopes of acceptance and a green light to join. As far as being independent, isn't the point to enjoy the hobby without the sometimes oppressive rules from a structured organization? Also, yeah everyone has to build as module and that's great but not if you're allowing consistent track time to the same people. Everyone should get a turn and it should rotate. Best part is, i had little to no desire to run my stuff as i can do that at home. What I did want was to enjoy other enthusiasts, and get ideas and tips on building and wiring displays. So all that riggermerall directed towards me for nothing.
